Food packaging is referred to as the prerequisite element within the
food industry. The main concern is to access protection from
polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, polyethylene and polyamide.
These has been used excessively for packaging material because of the
good mechanical performance such as tensile strength, aroma
compounds, heat seal ability and is also good barrier to carbon
dioxide. High degree of use of petroleum-based plastic has both health
hazards as well as environmental hazards. It also affects the health of
the workers who are associated with maintaining and cleaning process
which leads to serious ecological problems because of the total non-
biodegradability. There seems to be high degree of increasing
environmental concerns associated by excessive plastic accumulation.
There is a need for improving the packaging material which helps in
improving the performance and are easy to reuse and recycle.
Integration of the bio plastics is one of the key significant measure
which helps in improving the key concerns associated with the use of
plastic. Bio plastics are derived from generable sources such as corn
starch, vegetable oil, potato starch, fibres, etc. Bioplastic helps in
developing an eco- friendly food packaging materials which are very
useful for the environment and helps the business in carrying out
business operations in an ethical and sustainable manner. Bioplastic
can break down into the earth and does not release any sort of harmful
chemicals within the ecosystem. These biodegradable plastics tends to
do not completely rely upon the same method of the production and
also focuses on producing fewer set of greenhouse emission and gases.
