INTRODUCTION In Australia, tourism sector is one of most popular industry as compare to all. Seasonality is a universal factor. Seasonality has been a striking facet of tourism in different parts of world and it is one of the main problems experienced by this sector. The tourism sector has grown from small element in global development throughout the world (Tsai and et.al., 2015). In this present report, Queensland is been chosen for assessment. It is second largest and third most populous state in Commonwealth of Australia. There are number of issues regardingseasonalitythataffectthedestinationsofQueensland'sdestinations,social, economic, environmental and cultural. The main focus of this essay is on issues that seasonality has on its tourism sector and host community. MAIN BODY Tourism sector is one of most popular industry as compare to all in Australia. It is one of themost essential element oftheeconomyofcountry.In theyear2016-17,tourism represented3.0%ofGrossDomesticProductofcountry.Queenslandisverybeautiful destination of Australia, about 24 million domestic and overseas visitors come to visit Queensland in a year.Seasonality has been a striking facet of tourism in many parts of world. There are many places that are attraction points like Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday Island, Fraser Island and Sunshine Coast Queensland (Minazzi, 2015). These are the most famous places of sited destination. Thus, there are some issues regarding seasonality that is very challenging phenomenon to modify as because it is not able to control by anyone. Climatic conditions affect all aspects of a destinations like economic, cultural, social and environment. It is very important to consider all these issues when thinking about to modify the seasonal design of tourism to a destination. It becomes very challenging to manage seasonality changes over long term. It is very difficult to achieve changes successfully as because these are natural. It has been noticed that destination become unattractive and uninviting “out of season” that affects the growth of tour and travel industry, their business does not able to make profits (Xiang and et.al., 2017). They run their business in loss when there is no season. Queensland is areas covered largely with water, about 121,991 km is water out of 1,852,642 km. Thus, Queensland 1
is facing very big challenges. In Whitsunday Island and Fraser Island, the sea level rises and there is risk of flood in rainy season. These places remain close that resulting in decreasing of visitors and it will lead to heavy loss to tour and travel industries. Even people living near to island places are migrated to other places only because of climatic fear. Sometimes it also seems that small islands does not have enough fund or resources to overcome such threats by themselves (Lu and Stepchenkova, 2015). Travellers fear to visit these places. Thus, it affects the economy of Queensland in rainy season. Many famous places in Queensland are blocked because more than half of the area is covered with water. Another issue of seasonality is that it affects tourism industry is that in rainy season transport is also blocked because of landslide that people cannot able to move from one place to another. Therefore, people don't like to visit islands or beach areas which affect tourism sector. Hence, these are all the reasons why people does not like to travel and visit to Queensland in rainy season and these all issues affect tourism sector of cited destination to the great extent (Smith and Puczkó, 2014). Addition to this, in summer season of Queensland there is high range of humidity and very hot temperature. There is much more humidity which change the mind set of visitors. No one like to visit here in summer season due to high humidity. In summer holidays, people move but still people does not like to visit where there is high humidity. It is because it leads to various health issues like migraine, skin rashes, high blood pressure. Addition to this,the major issues that comes in summer season is dehydration. These are all health issues that affect tourism industry (Seasonality issues faced by tourism sector,2017). In summer, people also suffers from tanning issues that also change there state of mind to move. Moreover, on beach, people also face sun burn which is very big issues for people and it influenced tour and travel industry to a great extent. These are all the reason that affects the economy as well as tourism sector of Queensland (Wang and et.al., 2014). RECOMMENDATION Issues related to seasonality factors is not an easy task to control because it is a natural phenomenon. For example, in Canada, there is Polar Bear Tourism which is very famous because the fact behind this type of tourism is that polar bear disappear in global warming and thus tourist visit only to see polar beers. Thus, Queensland should also use this technique. Revamping of Destination-This is also one of the best way to attract tourist more and overcome the issues that are coming in relation to tour industry. The image of destinations may decide to change its image and market completely (Minazzi, 2015). Government should invest more fund on infrastructure of cited destination and promote them. CONCLUSION The above report concluded that seasonality has been a striking facet of tourism in different parts of world and it is one of the main problems experienced by this sector. This report also makes understood that tourism sector is most essential for countries economy as contribution in GDP was written above. Further, this assignment also included various issues related to seasonality that affect the profitability of tourism industry. Moreover, this report also provided recommendations how to overcome these issues in effective manner so that negative impact can be reduced on tourism sector. 3
