Question 1:
a. Explain the value of project management in the context of New
Zealand based business organization. Provide evidence from relevant research
and examples from the case study.
Followed by a detail analysis of the case scenario of Auckland transportation it is
observed that Auckland city is one of the largest city present in New Zealand which is the
primary hub of New Zealand. During the investigation it is observed that in the year 2014
Auckland consists of more than 1.42 million people which is anyway a huge number for any
urban city (Haarhoff & Rose 2016). Considering these aspect from this case scenario it is
observed that one of the major problem in this case is related to its traffic congestion as in the
study it is mentioned that for all of the motorist present in Auckland has faced traffic congestion,
choked road as well as traffic jams which has majorly impacted the transportation services of the
nominated industry. And according to the study it is also observed that Auckland city will
become one of the populated cities in New Zealand in just 30 years (Zhang & Wang 2018).
After completion of the above investigation it is observed that it is very essential to
eliminate these problems which effective mitigation approaches, otherwise these identified
problems will majorly impact the environment as well as the transportation system of Auckland.
Considering this aspect it is observed that in order to effectively handle this scenario there is a
huge necessity to apply the skillful project management approach. As in case of improving any
system it is very essential to manage all of the operations in a structured way. Thus, it is very
essential to apply project management solution to address the requirements (Johnson, Baker &
Collins 2019). Now considering the identified facts from the Auckland case study it is observed
that in order to enhance the transportation system of Auckland several project management

values needs to be considered which includes the aspect of providing fastest solution to the
problems, enhancement in the capabilities of prediction, cost effectiveness as well as
communication and the management of customer demand (Li, Ranjitkar & Zhao 2019). Apart
from these values of the most essential values of the project management is the risk assessment
which helps to analyze the current risk as well as will help to predict future risk of the
approached project (Afzal, Ranjitkar, Costello, Jayananthan & Jayasinghe 2017). While
considering this case scenario of Auckland transport it is observed that the congestion of traffic
in the mentioned city needs to be controlled hence, a detail investigation is required to determine
the threats as well as the opportunities of the approached project hence, it can be summarizes that
in this context it will be very effective implement good project management skills.
b. Critically analyze a range of project management skills to solve the
problems reflected in the Auckland Transport case study.
After completion of the above mentioned aspects it is observed that in order to solve the
problems reflected into the case scenario of Auckland transportation system it is observed that
there is a huge necessity to apply advance project management skills which will help to analyze
and determine key factors which may influence the nominated scenario. Making allowance to
this concern it is observed that there is a huge range of project management skills present which
will help the manager to effectively manage the approached project (Currier, Mirza & Downing
2017). Those skills includes effective communication skills, negotiation skill, time management
and scheduling skills, risk assessment skills as well as the leadership skill. Making allowance to
this concern it is observed that the nominated case scenario the project manager must be capable
effective communication skills as well as the negotiation skills (Souid & Koszalka 2018). There
is a huge significance behind this selection as Auckland in one of the largest city with almost

highest population present in New Zealand, thus it is very essential to conduct a risk assessment
with the purpose to get a detail idea about the limitations and the scope of this new approach.
Along with these, it also required best leadership practices as only a great team effort can

it is also observed that in the scenario advance time management as well as scheduling is very
essential as this project will be dealing with the public vehicles as well as other transports of the
Auckland cities thus, it is highly essential to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Along with
these identification it is observed that the skills of negotiation is also one of the necessary skill
that will be helpful while dealing with the stakeholders of the approached project (Smith,
Smarkusky & Corrigall 2019).
Thus, after completion of the above discussion it is distinguished that in this project
management approach the above mentioned skills are highly required which will invoke the
success of the approached project.
c. Analyze and justify project management tool and techniques that could
be implemented by a project management team to promote successful project
outcomes.
According to several studies it is determined that in order to effectively implement any
project there is a huge necessity to utilize effective project management technique as well as
tools which promote the successful implementation of the project. Thus, a list of project
management techniques and tool are mentioned in the below section:-
Agile technique-

Followed by the concern of the approached project it has been identified that the adoption
of Agile technique into the development process will be very effective as it has been identified
from the investigation that this method is a cross functional, self-organizing process which offers
high customer satisfaction, flexibility in the development process as well as repeated delivery
process. Along with this due to adaptive nature of this method it entertains change in
requirements as well as the goal of the project which holds a major impact on the success of the
project. Apart from the above features, simplicity is one of the key element of this method which
is easy to use. Making allowance to the aspect of requirement gathering it has been identified
that this method will surely help the developer to gather most informative contents as well as the
requirements that will help to enhance the development process of the approached project
(Carstens, Richardson & Smith 2016).
Scrum Method-
In the field of project development it has been noticed that scrum is also one of the
helpful development method that helps to gather information from the client and based on this it
gather requirement which enhances the appropriateness of the approached project. Considering
this aspect it has been identified that Scrum method embraced five major values which includes
the commitments, focus, courage, respect and openness (Radujković & Sjekavica 2017). Making
allowance with the aspect of these value scrum offers to deliver most appropriate development
method by collaboration, liability as well as the iterative process. While analyzing its
effectiveness it has been identified that this methods it highly effective for less complex projects
with defined goals hence, it can be stated that for the approached project Scrum will be very
effective for requirement gathering and for the development process.
Waterfall Method-

Along with the above mentioned methodologies, the adoption of the Waterfall method
will also provide enhancement into the development process by providing support to the
requirement gathering process as well as the system development process. Followed by this
concern while analyzing the features of Waterfall method it has been identified that Waterfall is
one of the most traditional system development method which is a followed by a liner,
downward process for development. Considering this aspect it has been noticed that waterfall
model does not offers flexibility as well as does not entertains change is goals thus, in order to
adopt this method it is very essential to apply it on less complex, well defined project
development process. Along with the above aspect it has been noticed that this project does not
offers high customer satisfaction as it does not take feedbacks from the users frequently. Unlike
the other methods it gather all of its information and requirements initially before starting the
development process (Alotaibi, Sutrisna & Chong 2016).
Hence, followed by the above discussion it has been noticed that in order to enhance the
development process the adoption of agile technique of project management will be very
effective as this method will entertain any change in requirement during the development process
which will improve the customer satisfaction.
Apart from the discussion on the project management technique it is observed that project
management tools also played a very essential role to enhance the implementation process of the
approached project. While analyzing the features of the project management tools it is observed
that there are several tools which are classified into several categories based on their working
features and capabilities (Basu 2017).
Since, the approached project required effective analysis and workflow process
management it is observed that MS project is one of the best solution to structure the workflow

of the approached project. Along with this in order to communicate with the team members the
adoption slack will be very helpful to enhance the communication between the leaders and the
team members. Along with the tools like actiPLANS can be utilized to schedule the activities of
the project, for the purpose of accounting tools like Zoho, QuickBooks are very effective to keep
the count of all financial activities. Apart from this effective monitoring tools should be there to
analyze whether the team is working or not.
Question 2:
a. What action should be taken by the project manager to solve the traffic
congestion problem in Auckland and how those action will be implemented? (350

Followed by a thorough analysis of the case scenario of Auckland it is identified that
traffic congestion is one of the biggest problem in that city as well as the according to the future
production this problems will become one of the major problems into the city in just few years.
Thus, as a project manager it is decided that the below mentioned actions will be taken to
immediately mitigate identified problem:-
Change in road infrastructure- is of the best way to utilize the roads of the Auckland. From
Auckland case scenario it is determined that roads Jams has causes several significant problems
thus, it will be effective intersect the roads where more than three roads will be connected hence,
the traffic flow will be much better than the previous infrastructure. As in urban cities like
Auckland are highly influenced by the traffic congestion the intersection will increase the
capacity of the roads which will hopefully reduce the significance of traffic jam (Petrov,
Alseghayer & Chrysanthis 2019).

Synchronization of traffic light- will carefully monitored as it is observed from the case
scenario that low synchronization of traffic lights are one of the major causes of traffic jam.
Thus, at first the traffic lights will be synchronized in a better way that there will be less chance
of traffic jam (Akeke, Akeke, Okafor & Ezeokonkwo 2018).
Development of roads for mass transit- will be done as it is determined that public transports
should be in highest priority thus, the roads and the signals will be developed in such way that
the public transports like buses should get the highest priorities over other vehicles. Thus, it is
decided that in the approached road design there is a specific lane for buses and other public
transport which will definitely impact the traffic congestion (Khan, Hamila & Shaaban 2016).
Modifications on roadway- will be done in order to expand the capacities of the road which will
be able to consist more vehicles than the previous infrastructure (Wang & Crovato 2017).

for effective and efficient implementation will be managed with the purpose to

c. Identify and justify reasons for conflict situations that might occur during the
project. Recommend conflict resolution techniques to solve these situation.
Along with the identification of the above mentioned aspect, it is also very prominent that
there are several significant limitations which will impact the implementation process. While
analyzing this concern it is identified that while implementing this project one of the major
problems will be pollution and the vehicular congestion. During the implementation of this
project the vehicular flow will be disrupted due to the construction work in the roads of
Auckland which will create more congestion in the roads of the nominated city. Along with these
it is also very significant that during the implementation process the targeted area get majorly
populated which may create environmental problems as well (Ashmore, Pojani, Thoreau,
Christie & Tyler 2019).
As it is identified above that however, the approached project will reduce the major
congestion problem in Auckland city, but during the implementation of the approached project
there are several limitations which may impact the success of the project implementation
process. Making allowance to this concern it is recommended that before initiating the
implementation process the entire traffic routes should be analyzed and followed by the analysis
the routes will be determined from where the minimum numbers of vehicle passes. From that
section the construction will be started and before initiation the construction in any road prior
information should be given to the people of the nominated city to avoid that road. Along with
this in order to avoid the congestion it is recommended to not block all the roads but work in a
structured way that there should at least two alternative roads open for the vehicle to pass.
Considering these observations it is recommended to conduct a risk assessment by which the
possible threats could be identified and then the mitigations can also determine which will

definitely mitigate the identified problems to promote the success of the project implementation
(Chowdhury, Hadas, Gonzalez & Schot 2018).
Question 3:
d. Identify and justify reasons for the low share of public transport in
Auckland compared to Sydney. Analyze and discuss the types of project
Auckland transport need to initiate in order to increase the use of public
transport.
Followed by the above identification it is also determined that unlike Auckland there are
several urban cities which has significantly focused on the improvement in public transport
services. Sydney is one of those cities which has one of the best public transport services across
the world. While analyzing the transport services of Sydney it is noticed that, this city has
offered several options of enjoyable as well as affordable public transports that has majorly
influenced in interest of the people of Sydney. If we compare the public transport services of
Sydney with Auckland there will be a huge difference between the approaches of these two cities
as Sydney is one of the structure city that has offered wheelchair accessible transport, contactless
payments, well connected bus services, regional bus services as well as advance rail facilities.
On the other hand cities like Auckland has not taken any initiative to improve the use of public
transport. While analyzing the survey data it is observed that almost 70% of people in Auckland
preferred private vehicles as those are more comfortable for them where as in Sydney less than
60% passengers uses private vehicle due to the excellent public transport service offered by
Sydney (Chowdhury, Hadas, Gonzalez & Schot 2018).

From the above discussion it is very visible that Auckland city needs to implement effective
strategies to enhance the uses of public transport. One of the major factors to improve the use of
public transport is to enhance the passenger comfort. Along with this the enhancement in the
frequencies of buses and the advancement into the ticketing system will definitely influence the
passenger’s interest towards the public transport of Auckland. Apart from these consideration it
is also very essential to priorities the environment by reducing the emission of the greenhouse
gasses that will significantly improve efficiency of the public transports of Auckland city
(Chowdhury, Hadas, Gonzalez & Schot 2018).
Thus, after completion of this discussion it can be concluded that as compared to the cities
like Sydney there transport services are very comforting and cheap as well. Whereas, in the cities
like Auckland the passengers are not at all satisfied with the public transport services due to road
congestion, discomfort and many other issues. Hence, it is highly recommended to initiate the
public transport improvement plan soon after the completion of the approached project which
has aimed to mitigate the congestion problem in Auckland.
