INTRODUCTION
In the present era travel and tourism industry is regarded as one of the fastest growing
sector. It is one of the potential sector of the globe. Further the particular sector is attaining high
growth rate and is facing greater competition. The sector has greater number of benefits for the
individuals in relation with the opportunities of employment with the aim to attain set targets in
an effective manner (Hall and Clayton, 2009). This is considered as the major income source that
is generating income within the economy. In the present era traveling is not just limited towards
recreation and leisure purpose but it also assist the people in gaining education, knowledge,
business activities and factors relating with health. There is greater development in tourism
activities like adventure as well as eco- tourism. This acts as an aid in attracting people from
across the globe. In the present report travel and tourism sector has been discussed with respect
to London. The study makes investigation of development in tourism. Further it entails to make
analysis of the effects of demand and supply on travel and tourism sector. In addition to this it
covers the positive as well as negative impact of tourism.

Travel and tourism sector has become one of the major factor that results in bringing
economic development within the nation. UK is regarded as one of the famous tourist destination
across the globe as it is able to persuade more than 30 million visitors each year. The spirited
culture as well as amazing monuments are major attractions for the individuals from various
countries across the globe. The travel and tourism sector history in UK started with the primitive
era wherein the concept related with traveling from one destination to another was not common
(Korstanje and George, 2012). One of the only reason for traveling was towards visiting hold
places. In the present era traveling is being carried out for the purpose of leisure or certain
commercial reason. At the time of primitive era the major reason of travel was associated with
one thing that is towards visiting religious places. With the passage of time the concept of travel
and tourism began to change. It has been determined that between the year 1660 to 1840 the
individual had started traveling for other reason apart from religious purpose. It was the time

wherein the grand tour was organized within the market for the individuals who belongs to
higher income group. The sponsorship of the tour was being done by several parties and the tour
came out to be a greater success. Main objective of the particular tour was to increase awareness
among the people regarding the lifestyle as well as culture that exists in other cities, countries
and areas.
The industrial revolution was regarded as transformation period within the whole travel
and tourism sector in UK. This was in the period of 18th as well as 19th century. In this greater
number of changes took place within the sector. In addition to this organizations like Thomas
cook as well as Cox and Kings came into existence in the particular era only. Several new
tourism destinations were devised and there was increase in number of visitors in UK. The
concept relating with tour package was developed in this year as well. Later in the year 1969 first
legislation came into existence relating with travel and tourism sector (Lashley, 2007). Gradually
the concept related with experiencing travel relating services and visiting the destination began
to increase. With respect to society, it can be determined that perception of individuals within
market has altered and they have begin to visit other nations for viewing their culture,
destinations and other factors. Prior to the occurrence of 20th century several developments in
relation to the infrastructure has taken place wherein the facilities like road and transportation
were devised for certain destinations. In case of both natural as well as man made destination
such developments have emerged. In 20th century introduction of technology was done in travel
and tourism sector wherein certain organization begin to provide some of tour and travel services
online. Apart from this, several factors are being present which have lead to development in
travel and tourism sector. Further, technological advancement is one of the major factor where
the overall development taking place has supported in delivering good quality services to the
customers which is above their expectations and in turn has acted as development tool for the
entire sector. Further, change in overall taste and requirement of target market has also lead to
development in the entire sector. Due to rise in demand for new type of services travel and
tourism businesses have to modify their service range and this has lead to betterment of the entire
sector. Moreover, overall development is taking place at faster pace and this has allowed in
earning higher profits.
