INTRODUCTION
Self understanding forms an integral part of social cognition and is one of the prominent
factor for an individual in order to interpret and engage with social world. Self analysis is a
process of developing and improving capabilities, enhancing knowledge and maturing attitudes.
The level with a person understands self depicting their ability to understand others as it is more
critical to accept our imperfections and to know about our potential strengths. Therefore, for an
individual to be an effective leader, one who can inspire and influence employees, it has
becomes essential to understand their core competencies in order to be a ideal for team members
to follow them. Likewise, it is equally significant for leaders to acknowledge key areas of
lacking and works towards overcoming them. The assignment will describe core interpersonal
skills that are significant for me to attain success and career growth. Moreover, it will also briefly
discuss about the tools or techniques that I could take into consideration for improving my
weakness (Anderson and Braud, 2011).

REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ENTRY PRO-FORMA
Core skill- Focus and attention
According to Baron-Cohen, Tager-Flusberg and Lombardo (2013) Focus and attention is the
ability of brain to concentrate its entire attention on a target that makes it possible to
quickly identify relevant stimuli. Skill also assists individual to develop concentration that
helps in identifying and analysing various situations. Presence of this skill is requisite for
carefully and efficiently undertaking task related to professional life. Moreover, it also
provide practical solution of several issues and problems that a person encounters in its
personal life.

This is one of essential skill that helps an individual to concentrate in their work without
getting distracted by thoughts noises or anything else. The reason behind choosing this skill
as developing the skill will enable me to dedicate time and attention to the takes that are
assigned to me. Also it will help me in providing more authentic and reliable solutions to
complex problem by being calm and focusing my entire energies and knowledge towards
finding a viable solution. Mentioned below are certain other importance of this skill:
ï‚· Finding Solutions: This skill is significant for me to develop as it aid me expressing
my opinions to others calmly and patiently without hurting or disrespecting others
orientation. This will also help me to improve my ability to get into deep analysis or
to deeply study the root cause of any problem or conflict. Thus, it will help in
resolving disputes on early stage that will ensure that assignments are finished on
time without any delay.
ï‚· Maintaining work life balance: This skill will also help me to maintain a perfect
balance between my personal and professional life. As it will help to set my
proprieties that will make me remain passionate towards doing my work without
sacrificing my personal life commitments with my family and friends.
Henceforth, the above mentioned are the key causes why I choose to select the specific skill
to reflect.
Current competent regarding the skills
In personal I need to improve this skill of mine. Although I am focused towards the job that
is been assigned to me and also pay immense attention to properly complete it. However, in
due course of time, I get distracted by indulging in some conversation with my colleagues in
between my work. For improving in this skill I will be referring Jung Personality test that
will assist me to be more organized by taking rational decisions, processing my information
before I act or work upon anything. to Also, I been attentive and focused to complete my
work any how before deadline disturbs by personal life as I skip my lunch hours to complete
an assigned task. Even according to my superiors when it comes to work, I am quiet focused
although I still need to improve my such skills so that I could maintain proper work life
balance.

Identification of contradictions from analysis
There are certain presumptions in my collogues that I lack in setting priorities. Also in
opinion of some of them, skipping my lunch is my strategy to portrait myself as dedicated
employee. Thus, it is utmost important for me to change mind set of these people by
improving my skills.

develop ability for making a perfect choice in allocating more time to tasks that have high
priority to be completed on specific time period. This skill is to reap several benefit for me
as not only it will assist in my professional life but also will positively impact my personal

can help me successfully completing my tasks before deadlines and that will directly
influence my career growth and development. Certain other significance of this time

matter I lacks in meeting up the deadlines. For improving this skill, I will make use of MCI
(Management Charter Initiative) technique that will help me in analysing point of lacking in
my time management skill.

Jung Personality test: This test measures preferences of an individual to deal with people, make
decision, organise life and process data. I used this personality test to develop my skills of
focus and attention. One of the main benefit of using this test is provide an overall view of
an individual’s personality.
MCI (Management Charter Initiative): This is another model of personal competence which
help an individual to deal with the areas in which he/she lack. I used this tool to improve my
time management skills.
Johari Window: This is a tool which help an individual to better understand their relationship
with others. Mainly this is used in self-help groups and that’s why I used this in to order to
improve my skill of speaking in front of public.
VARK Model: VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read and Kinesthetic that are used for learn
information. As per this model, most of the individuals prefer to learn in one way from the
three: visual, auditory or kinesthetic. I utilise this model to improve my written
communication.
