Section One: Background to Research Topic
The present research is being performed to evaluate and analyse the impact of staff motivation techniques on
TESCO. It will result into various techniques that are used by the retail sector organisation for the purpose of
managing and motivating their workforce.
Research Rationale
This report is going to be very helpful in analysing the different motivation techniques that have to be used by
the organisations for the purpose of maximisation of employee efforts. This is a rational for the purpose of
conducting the investigation on presently laid research topic so that there can be identification of various
motivation techniques that are used by organisations for the purpose of resolving the issues associated with
employee motivation. The present research work is going to enhance my critical thinking skills, presentation
skills, literature research and time management skills that is going to help me in future professional
development. This is going to assist me in identification of the different strategies that are going to assist in
successful completion of research work with high degree of quality and excellence.

The changing external environment leads to a requirement of a competent and motivated workforce that can
contribute towards achievement of higher competitive advantage in organisations. For this purpose there is
requirement to evaluate the different strategies that can be used by TESCO for the purpose of enhancing the
tenure of employee retention in organisations. The present report is going to help in analysing such motivation
techniques that could assist in the process of maximisation of employee retention.

As per there are different employee motivation techniques that can be used in organisations for the purpose of
motivating employees that are very important in order to retain employees for longer time period. There are
two major levels of pyramid that are associated with the concept of employee motivation and employee

motivation. Such as it includes self actualisation and self esteem. Employee esteem is associated when an
individual is feeling motivated them do take a pride while they are doing for living. Such feelings are
magnified when they many not be respected by the management or higher ups. It leads to lack of confidence
in their overall abilities. Another aspect is employee self actualisation that is intrinsic form of motivation.
Sometime boosting motivation is associated with money or a competitive salary but employee overall job
satisfaction levels can also poses a great impact on motivation level. There is always a direct correlation
between employee motivation level and their ability to continue in a organisation for longer time duration.
To Identify of various challenges associated with employee motivation
As per view point’s Uday veer (2015), there are some of the issues that are associated with implementation of
motivation techniques in organisations. Lack of motivation leads to delay in employee performance that has a
direct impact on employee performance level. There are some of the instances associated with employee
mindset that may affect their present functioning and also is a factor that is related with low expectations of
employees. There are situations when lack of interest on part of employees is also a subject matter for their
present level of descried motivation and failure to accomplish a laid organisation goal. That can be as a result
of lower work engagement. There are also issues associated with achievements anxiety on part of employees
as they are sensitive to punishment, criticism. Achievement anxiety can also be a challenge to deal that can
create a low motivation level amongst employees anxious employees may not be interested in performing
their job roles and they may have lower level of motivation that is very difficult to be maintained. Apart from
this using various other motivation techniques leads towards a requirement of effective motivation techniques.
Each individual has different expectations, needs, beliefs, attitudes, backgrounds, values and thinking.
Employers have to deal with the diverse nature of workforce. Motivation also becomes challenging when
organisations have to change the hob roles of employees or lessen the hierarchy levels. The vigorous nature of
needs also a pose of challenges to managers in motivating their subordinates. It is because employees at a
particular point may have diverse nature of expectations and needs.

As per view points of Bkash (2021), there are some of the motivational strategies that are formulated in
TESCO for the purpose of having a competent and motivated workforce. For this purpose presently there is
adoption of Maslow hierarchy of needs to identify the different levels of needs that can act as a motivation
tool for employee. Physiological needs: It is the basic requirement of employees that includes shelter, food,
clothes, and treatment. TESCO is willing to identify such early level needs of employee that have to be
compulsory fulfilled. Next level needs are the safety needs it includes safety, security and better way of living

needs it includes job security and ensure security in their performance level. Third level needs include social
needs that are need of social security or social acceptance that is providing appreciation and recognition to
ensure social needs. Esteem needs are the highest level needs that is desire of having a desire to fulfil the
luxurious needs of employees. These needs are generally a motivation scheme for employees and it can be use
for the purpose of maximisation of employee contribution towards their assigned roles & responsibilities. Last
level needs are the self actualisation needs that are the final and highest level of needs. TESCO is willing to
maximize such efforts for yearly bonuses, basic salary rates in order to improve the level of employee
performance. It helps them in fulfilment of various level needs as per individual requirements in their
organisation.

Research methodology is the approach that includes the concept that is used to describe the challenges and
methods that are applied in curse of research for the purpose of collecting data and information for the
purpose of investigating the laid aims and objectives in order to reach to relevant conclusion and
recommendations. Research strategy: In presnet research work there will be use of survey strategy to analyse
the various motivation techniques that are used in TESCO for the purpose of motivating the overall
workforce. Apart from this literature review will be used as a secondary source of collecting information from
existing journal sources, books, online available articles in order to reach towards relevant conclusions.
Research choice: There are different choices that are available for a researcher; it includes two basic methods
that are qualitative or quantitative research methods. In present research work both the methods that is
qualitative will be used to analyse the literature review sources and quantitative method will be adopted to
analyse the information that is collected from the target segment of respondents.
Sampling: There are different methods that can be used for collecting the sample from target segment of
respondents who are the employee working in TECSO. For this purpose there is use of simple random
