INTRODUCTION
Promoting positive behaviour in health and social care is important and essential. This
support enhances the level of treatment and care of elderly and vulnerable people who seek
for health care centre for care and support (Association British Medical, 2012). In this
context, the following report demonstrates the current policy and legislation in relation to the
use of medication in social care settings. The roles and duties of those who involved in the
process will be analysed. The administration of medication in social care setting will be
assess. The documentation practices and safe storage and disposal of medication in social
care setting will be assessed.
LO 1
P1 Legislation and policy regulating medication
The current policy and legislation that regulates the medication practices in social care
services are described below:
Medicines Act 1968: The act passed by the parliament of United Kingdom which
regulates the use of medicines made for human and veterinary which includes
manufacture and supply of medicines (Miras, et al., 2014).
The Health Act 2006: The act passed by the parliament of United Kingdom which
includes numerous administrative changes. The Chapter 1 of act mandates that social
care centre must be smoke free. Chapter 2 defines age of sale of tobacco.
The Controlled Drugs Regulations 2013: The act mandates specific changes and
provisions related with the information of drugs used for medication purpose to
promote efficient governance concerning safe management and controlled use of
medicines. The Misuse of Drugs Act 2001: The act was passed in 2001 which governs and
control on the supply of (illegal) drugs for legitimate purpose. This act prevents
misuse of illegal drug and promotes safety within the centre (Payne-James, et al.,
2010).
