SECTION 1
Introduction
This sector will focus upon evaluating duties and roles a coach, mentor or teachers plays a
crucial role in guiding individual person . This sector will further highlight difference between roles of
coach, mentor and teacher and their effectiveness in meeting learning need of individual students in
an effective manner (Yaacob, 2018).
Responsibilities of a coach, mentor and teacher
Coach, mentor and teacher plays a vital and important role for fulfilling needs of individual
students with different needs. Responsibilities of mentor in relation to working within individual
students have been explained below:
Responsibilities of Coach: One of the main responsibilities of a coach is to plan and organize different
range of activities and program that can help individual learners in fulfilling their needs and
requirements. They are responsible for encouraging individual learners for overcoming all kinds of
challenges faced by them and if required they are also responsible for referring individuals to a
specialist in order to fulfil their needs and requirements (Wetzel, Hoffman and Maloch, 2017). For
example: Cassie is a single mother of 3 children who has recently lost her mother and is a recovering
alcoholic. Due to this she is facing difficulty in attending all the sessions on time. Not only this she is
also dyslexic due to which she is facing difficulty in learning as well. She needs a proper coach who
can provide her coaching and develop a plan for her so that she can attend all her sessions and learn
in an adequate manner.
Responsibilities of Mentor: First and the foremost responsibility of a mentor is to help other learners
in learning, using their skills for achieving success. A mentor helps an individual by providing them
with guidance so that they can use their current skills and knowledge in achieving success of
achieving their long- term goals in an effective manner. For example: Lissa is already good
academically. She simply needs a mentor who can provide guidance to her for understanding ways
in which she can use her skills and knowledge in setting up her own business.
Responsibilities of teachers: Main primary responsibility of a teacher is to plan are teaching lesson
for enhancing overall knowledge of students. They are also responsible for developing a safe
learning environment in order to complete needs of a student. For example: Aran is an academically
gifted student but has indulged himself in drugs and have a toxic relationship with his parents. He
needs a proper teacher who can teach him negative and drastic effects of drugs and ways in which
getting involved in drugs can ruin his future.
Differences between the coaching, mentoring and teaching roles
There is a difference between coach, mentor and teacher role while working with individual
students as all are having different responsibilities and they have to manage all activities. Individual
students need proper focus and attention so that they can enhance their knowledge. Mentor is a
person who guides his or her mentee and help them in achieving goals and objectives (Reano,
2020). It is important to focus on how to accomplish targets and it will help students in making
better strategies for future. Mentor guides mentee in improving skills and help in learning new

things which will be beneficial for them in achieving targets. Coaches are helping students in
providing them guidance and shows them correct way so that they can focus on their goals. A coach
teaches students how to develop skills and perform better than others. Every individual should have
some qualities which are unique and help them in identifying those skills. Generally, coaches help in
guiding students and focus on achieving targets by making plans. It is important to identify skills and
make strategies according to that to improve skills. It is the responsibility of coach to help their
student in achieving goals and identifying strengths so that it will be easy in focusing on targets
(Porras and et.al., 2018).
Teacher plays an important role while working with individual student because teachers are like
parents and they show right path to students. Some children do not understand in groups so, they
teachers taught them individually. It helps a student in learning things better and enhance their
knowledge. A teacher knows well about a student because they are spending more time with
children and they teach new things, values and important topics which is necessary. All students are
different from each other but teacher focuses on all students. Teacher helps in guiding students and
showing them correct way by which they can develop skills and learn new topics (Næsheim-
Bjørkvik, Helgevold and Østrem, 2019).
Effectiveness of teaching in learning needs
Coach helps in meeting individual learning needs because they are knowing what a student want and
understand every student. They help them in enhancing knowledge and develop skills according to
capability. It is not easy for students to make plans and achieve goals, they need help of someone
who will guide them and show them way to reach to target. It is essential that coach, mentor or
teacher should have proper knowledge and have the ability to handle student. They should try to
solve problem of students and suggest them better ways which can be used for increasing their
knowledge and them in developing skills. A coach, mentor and teacher help in improving individual
performance as they identify strengths and weakness of a student and they know how to teach him
or her so that they can learn things. This will be beneficial for them in getting good jobs in future
(Lovell, 2018). Coaching focus on achieving goals and shows them way by which targets can be
achieved.
Mentoring helps in teaching student and develop skills which will help them in future growth. It will
help in making plans or strategies so that students can learn new topics and it will help in
understanding what a student want. Teacher, mentor or coach guides student to increase their
knowledge and try to learn things in an easy way. They should evaluate performance of students
after plans are implemented and it will help in achieving targets easily. If teacher will check work
given to students, then only, they will be able to identify weak points and make changes in plans so
that they can learn properly. Teaching roles help in meeting individual learning needs. When a
student get mentor or teacher then they learn topics easily because teacher is having the skills to
explain topics.
