INTRODUCTION
“There's nowhere else like LONDON. Nothing at all anywhere.” Likewise, London is
considered to be best place where tourists generally opts to visit. There are many areas where a
person can explore in London one of which is London Eye which is most popular attraction in
that country. This report is a justification of urban tourism in LONDON specifying a selected
area of that city.
TASK 1
South Bank London's current tourism development problems and opportunities with an
explanation of local tourism management strategies improvement
Tourism is very essential in an economy as it provides a lot of employment directly and
indirectly. Its main objective is to expand economy and create opportunities for country so as to
develop and expand. Urban tourism defines a type of tourism which is inclined more towards
city visits by tourists where they get to see a lot of attractions which overlaps each other. By this
way people are becoming more cost effective and dedicated to save money with experiencing
more and more in order to explore (Ashworth, 2011). In this tourism main focus in on city visit
which are located in targeted countries by tourists. This is a traditionally popular way of
travelling which is becoming more and more popular in upcoming time.
UK attracts a huge number of world wide tourist who aims to travel the country. The
nation is really very much benefited by these activities as it earns a lot from it which feeds the
growth structure and development of it. In London, major aim there is to create sustainability in
this sector so that country can maintain its attractions for a long period of time. London eye is a
most popular attraction which is situated on the South Bank of River Thames. South Bank is an
entertainment and commercial district in central London near River Thames. It was developed
during festival of Britain as area for art and entertainment. It is now considered as a significant
destination for tourists in Central London. River Thames is a river that flows from southern
England and is most longest river of that area and second largest in UK (Nunkoo, 2010). This
area is considered as full of attraction in country as it covers a lot of views which a person can
see. London Eye specially covers 135 metres high area with a recognition as world's tallest
observation wheel started in 2000. It contains 32 capsules which carries 10000 visitors everyday
and also it is number one paid attraction in London which earns a lot. Further in this area there is

a country hall, London aquarium etc. with high court and supreme court of country. National
contemporary art gallery Tate modern is also there at South Bank, Tower Bridge which have a
section of glass floor on high walkway is also there and heritage of Britain HMS Belfast has also
been associated in this region.
Current tourism development problem at South Bank central area of London are that it
have a lot of attractions which are visited by a number of people everyday (Steinbrink, 2012). So
there is a need for taking care of them as well as time to time repair and renew them. Arrival of
London eye in recent years have created more demand of people to travel that area, the global
theatre has also been established as well as Millennium bridge is also a major attraction there
which is recently introduced. The pace of change is so rapid that it is affecting life of people who
are staying in that part of city. Redevelopment alarms in the area threatens people which may
cause a problem to those who are residing in that geography. Whereas development by
establishment of more and more attraction have made that area very crowdy as people are
fascinated by it. All of these development in this also generates a huge cost for country's
government or investors who are associated with it as it is for a large number of people. In this
area there is a destination which is above so high and one is river which is so deep both of them
are complement to each other which creates a perfect view for visitors to have a wonderful
experience.
Talking about opportunities in this area well there are many more development
opportunities which can be evolute in this area. Countries government can make various more
attractions like- theme park hotels, museum and a idea to have a creative and more attractive
place which visitors would be attracted towards so as to visit. Simultaneously, with these
country's government has a opportunity which states organising events like- food event, wine
tasting and similar programs which will attract a lot of visitors to travel that area of city.
Urbanisation in London is always a main focus by people and all other related parties in country
result of which is that country have a lot of various type of attractions. Tourism sector have
always been a positive point for a country which supports it to earn a lot of revenue for
development of economy as well as nation (Spirou, 2011). It contributes a lot to gross domestic
production of country that it is a very strong and sound nation.
Tourism management strategies are used by UK in order to have a sustainability in its
growth which can be considered as primary focus of this nation. Local management communities

which are putting their efforts to manage attraction in South bank area of London so that more
and more visitors can be attracted which could generate employment as well as profit for state.
Strategies are developed to have a proper functioning of all available resources in a directed
manner so as to obtain maximum utilisation from which benefit is also generated (Quinn, 2010).
Local tourism strategies in London are retention of visitors spending, widening access to
facilities, community projects, employment of training of local people and to spread education.
Money which is generated through tourists visits is regulated in country's economy which
initiates a multiplier effect and this money should be kept to local area so as to have minimum
leakage. This can be initiated by involving local residents of that area who want to work for there
survival and avoiding to locate employees from outside areas will lead to development in that
region by regulating tourism sector money which is earned by attractions of South bank area.
Further a strategy to attract as many possible visitors in the area by providing them with
facilities none other that what is wanted by the by doing proper research of tourist visits by
people. Concessions to families can be given and promotion of attractions can be done by
advertising or by various other means (Maitland, 2014). Major part of people in tourism sector
are involved in earning money whereas they do not care about society which will lead to further
underdevelopment, however, some country's government provides a lot to development of
country by taking care of communities which are established with these attractions which gives a
rise to sustainable development. For instance parks, community centres, visitors attractions etc.
can be a source to societal development. On the other hand parking space which can be
chargeable for development various other places may have tickets to visits which will generate
some funds which will be deployed towards repair and restructuring of that place.
Local people for tourism of that area can be trained for vacancies which are available in
same. This will help in reducing unemployment as this sector generated a lot of employment
opportunities for people so in this local people must be given priority. Hotels, tourists attraction,
hospitality, tour guiding etc. are some examples for jobs which might be very useful for people
who are residing there (Rogerson, 2011). Training f these people will support in providing best
services which will help in retention and repeat visits by people. A strategy to educate and share
ideas with people who are travelling the area must be there. As people must be educated about
sustainable development as well as environmental protection and support to local communities
via this sector. Local people of the state will gain skills and this will lead to improvement in

standards of providing facilities as well as they will come across to opportunities which are
brought by tourism (Füller, 2014). An experience of people in that place in what counts as
travelling makes a human story teller so these type of eduction to spread culture via people who
are travelling must be initiated which will result as a very effective way to promote the area.
Hence, these strategies can be improved by this sector in local area by focusing on
providing knowledge to citizen of that area first which will lead to education of people and a
result of this will be retention of money in economy of nation as it is transferred to people of
country only with specification to South Bank region. A person must feel really experienced that
it remains with it for lifetime. This type of strategy by government will lead to attract more and
more people from world as they are more inclined to experience things which drive them to
travel places. This is a opportunity in external environment of this sector which can be used to
develop a plan to attract a lot of visitors. Urban tourism is most trending as there are youngsters
and solo travellers who wants to explore cities in countries like UK. These are occupying major
part of tourists who are willing to travel (Papadimitriou, 2015). This section of people can be
targeted as a whole by the sector and packages jointly with some agencies can be developed.
Regional agencies and travelling companies can also be developed by making good relations
with other countries who promotes them in there nation. Likewise, Urban tourism in South bank
London can be enhanced by this with simultaneous development of area and people who are
residing there.
CONCLUSION
Urbanisation is developing on a rapid pace which states that it is very trending. Hence,
people wants to travel cities instead of rural areas as they are more fascinating. It is being
obtained by this study. South bank London and related areas attractions with problems and
strategies which are made to overcome them is a result of this document. Development of local
area by training of people residing in that part and retention of revenues within that region which
are generated from tourism activities have also been concluded in this written report. A
justification for attractions and their importance is also there in above study.
