Introduction
The present section will provide the
meaning of ethics and with the help of
relevant corporate scandal, it shed a light
upon the importance of workplace ethics.
Along with this, current section also
describe two UK laws which promote good
ethical practices
A- Meaning of ethics and defining the
factors that influence ethics
Ethics is all about the moral
principles which also affect the overall
decision of a company. Therefore, it is all
about govern a person’s behaviour or
conducting of an activity. With the help of
ethics, top company like Facebook and
Google is able to develop a trust between
consumer and company that assists to run in
effective manner (Gonan Božac and et.al.,
2021). This in turn also ensure that public
receives fair treatment and also gain high
competitive advantage as well. Moreover,
through business ethics company is able to
run entire business operations and provide
correct information to their customers so
that they will build positive image in their
mind-set. There are many factors that affect
the business ethics which as mentioned
blow:
Legislation: government will
intervene and enact laws only when business
become too unethical and selfish, as a result
they ignore their responsibility towards
society (Burton and Sinnicks, 2021). So,
society will never tolerate the such
misbehaviour continuously and as a result
business will exert pressure on government,
and they have no alternative to prohibit this
unhealthy behaviour.
Ethical code of company: it is
generally affected when the company run at
global level then its standards of ethical
conduct tend to rise (Factor affecting
business ethics, 2021). For example, Google
which make sure to comply with ethical
codes so, unethical behaviour within a
workplace will definitely affect the brand
image of a company and its goodwill in
market. That is why, such type of factor
affects ethical behaviour of a company.
Policies of a company: It is another
factor that also affect the overall business
ethics in opposite manner. As every
company have their own policies which
affect the overall performance of a
company. Thus, standards of behaviour in an
industry is also influenced the greatly by
dominant firm.

B- Importance of workplace ethics by using
Facebook scandal
Workplace ethics are play an
important role in the success of a company.
Such that if an organization act ethically
then employees feel positive and this in turn
improve the business outcomes as well.
Therefore, the perception of ethical
behaviour also helps to increase the
employee performance, job satisfaction,
organizational commitment, enhance
company's brand image, increase
profitability and control business
malpractice and build trust between each
other (Werhane, 2021). Overall, it can be
stated that through business ethics, company
treat their employees equally and maintain
transparency within workplace as well.
Also, it helps in smooth functionin of a
business and provide a positive working
environment for the employees as well.
Thus, it is necessary for the company to
comply with ethics in order to run in smooth
manner.
There are big corporate scandals
perform at global level and this is because
companies do not comply with ethics and
this in turn causes opposite impact upon
their brand image. One of the latest example
is Facebook where data privacy scandal
performs where collection of personally
identifiable information of 87 million people
have been hacked by political consulting and
strategic communication firm Cambridge
Analytica (Facebook scandal, 2021). As a
result, company as well as others are able to
gain access to all personal data of Facebook
users and misused the same. This is a clear
sign of breach of data privacy act where
company did not comply with ethics and as
a result, its brand image got affected in
negative manner. In this, companies collect
entire data of people which includes sexual
orientation, ethnicity, religion as well as
political views.
Positive experience: Through this
scandal, company gain positive experience
with regard to comply with business ethics,
otherwise it will lead to cause negative
impact upon the business performance.
Moreover, Facebook and other companies
must consider it as an opportunity in which
they have to be aware of such issues and
developed strategy prior so that they cope up
with such issue immediately. Along with
this, an organization ensure that they have to
control the business malpractice so that it
will run in smooth manner.
Negative experience: The negative
experience feels by the company from this
scandal is it affected the brand image of a
company and most of the Facebook users
