Introduction
This presentation is basically based in the voting system of
UK that forms a crucial part of Democracy as it the process
through which the representatives and parties and candidates
are elected to form government and on which the total
responsibility and governance of a nation is based and
depends.

Information about voting system
Voting systems which also known as electoral systems
basically represent the method or process by which
representatives of a nation or political parties are elected.
Thus, a voting system basically determines the rules that how
the parties and candidates would get elected to govern the
nation.

First-past-the-post
Use of this voting system is commonly made in UK that consist of
The House of Commons and local councils in England and Wales.
The political framework of UK is divided into parts i.e.
constituencies and Local authorities into wards. During general or
local election, use of first past the post system of voting is made
under which voters put a cross (X) next to their preferred candidate
on a ballot paper and then these Ballot papers are counted

Need for change
It has been evaluated that the voting system of UK needs some
change as it has been seen that winners have small a proportion of
total votes and further it is also more difficult for smaller parties to
get valid representation that usually results in one party controlling
government that is not good for minorities and equal development
of all people of nation.

Pros and cons of areas of change
As per the opinion of Caroline Lucas, (Green Party leader), “The
government of UK should live up to its rhetoric by urgently
reviewing their unfair and unrepresentative voting system.”
As per the view point of Katie Ghose, “Every developed country
that uses First Past the Post has a major grassroots campaign to
abolish it” thus it is a high time for government of UK to abolish
current voting system and bring a change .

The pros and cons of new system that could be adopted by UK
for having better voting system consist of Single transferable
votes system. The pros of this system is that it lead to a more
fairer voting system along with wider choice of candidates to
elect a suitable.

Changes are important for democracy
The changes in the voting system of UK is essential for
democracy as the First-past-the-post system is seemed quite unfair
where the party which is not in majority and have support if only
some big candidates can make a government that is usually result
in one party ruling government.

Conclusion
On the basis of above presentation it can be concluded that voting
system is a crucial part of democracy that must be based on
principles of equality and fairness. But in UK the use current voting
system is seemed quite unfair thus, a become necessary to come with
some change in its voting system to protect the rights and provisions
of a democratic nation.
