WAREHOUSE NETWORK SET UP AND CONFIGURATION1
Summary
As per various studies over the last few years, it is evident how important
network diagrams and network configuration can be in implementing a network
infrastructure. The report presents a diagram and associated configuration for
VICWarehouse. First it talks about the project scope before specifying the
hardware and software requirements for the network. This is followed by
justification for the network design and the various VLANs that have been
created for the Footscray warehouse. Then after providing the subnet
classification the report presents the switch and network configurations after
which it ends with conclusions.

WAREHOUSE NETWORK SET UP AND CONFIGURATION4
Introduction
The report below tries to highlight how network designs and configurations
can prove to be important in setting up networks. This report begins with the
scope of the project before specifying the hardware and software requirements
for the network. This is followed by justification for the network design and the
various VLANs that have been created for the Footscray warehouse. Then after
providing the subnet classification the report presents the switch and network
configurations after which it ends with conclusions.
Scope
The Victorian storage service called VICWarehouse consist of three key locations
in the suburbs of Footscray, Ballarat and Bundoora while their headquarters is at
Melbourne CBD.
The suburbs Footscray, Ballarat and Bundoora are serving 70, 40 and 20 hosts
respectively and be able to provide wireless network to supported devices.
The Footscray warehouse is to have four buildings with 6, 14, 22 and 28 hosts in
the respective buildings.
The Headquarters located at Melbourne is to house the web server, DNS server
and file server which must be accessible from all branches.
The users and staff should also be able to use the network services from their
homes.
Requirements
Hardware Requirements
The equipment necessary to set up the VICWarehouse network are found to be
the routers, the switches, the workstations, the servers and the wireless access
points.
The routers are connected with one another using serial cables through WIC-2T
ports.
These routers then connect the respective switches with straight through
Ethernet cables.
The switches are connected to one another through crossover Ethernet cables.

WAREHOUSE NETWORK SET UP AND CONFIGURATION5
The layer two switches directly connect the hosts using straight through Ethernet
cables.
Software Requirements
The required software applications needed for setting up
VICWarehouse network are Windows 10 Professional 64 bit for the
workstations, Windows Server 2016 for the Servers, the various firmware
applications for operating the routers and switches as well as WAMP to set
up the web server.
Design of Network

Design Justification
The network design illustrated in figure 1 shows that the routers of
Footscray, Ballarat, Bundoora, Melbourne and the ISP are connected by serial
cables. These routers provide network services to the switches which ultimately
connects the devices following a top down approach. In footscray warehouse a
multilayer switch obtains the routed network and provides it to the layer 2
switches connecting the hosts thus forming a three layered hierarchical network
architecture. One of these switches also connect the access point that provides
