Purpose The report will discuss the wellcome trust, which is UK's leading non-governmental organisation is a global charitable foundation which work towards benefitting everyone from science's potential that help to improve the health and save lives. The purpose of this research will be to know the background of the quoted organisation i.e. what it does, the communiy it serves, programmes it runs and where it is operating i.e. locally, nationally or globally with how many number of volunteers and employees. Further, the study will explain the NGO's aim, objectives, values and mission. It will describe the organisation's governance and structure. The report will evaluate the NPO's source of funding and it's impact on the community or society at large. The study will critically analyse the macro factors by applying PESTLE analysis to know the exnternal forces and SWOT analysis to identify the strengths & opportunities of the organisation. Lastly, the research will include recommendationsby prioritizingthe short, medium and long term goals. Introduction TheWellcome Trust, which was founded in 1936 by Henry Wellcome which is having the headquarter in London, UK. It was established with legacies from pharmaceutical magnate which help to fund the research to improve the animal and human health. According to Financial Times, the quoted NGO was decribed as one of the largest non-governmental funder for the scientific research (Kiddle and et.al., 2018). The major investment of the NGO were headed towards the biomedical research, seeding drug discovery, development in Covid-19, improving research culture etc. The Trust is funded by38.2 billion investment which is an independent politically and socially foundation.The quoted NGO uses science to solve the urgent health challenges which are being faced by everyone. The Wellcome Trust work is to improve the health by policy, research, campaigns and maintaining global partnerships to help everyone. The health challenges could be resolved by working with the people and organisations including science as a solution. The major support research is done to figure out the solutions mainly regarding the three big challenges such as climate, mental health and infectious disease. The Trust is being working for the cummunity at large. Their is no specific community whom they are helping. During pandemic, Wellcome's response towards working with the governments, academia, civil society, businesses and public at large to solve the mental and physical health challenges through science around the world.
The NGO is running large programmes which are funding initiatives in Asia and Africa. One of the programme is KEMRI- Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) which focus on the malnutrition, HIV, reproductive issues and respiratory diseases. The another programmes are Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW), Mahidol Oxford TropicalMedicineResearchUnit(MORU),OxfordUniversityClinicalResearchUnit (OUCRU). They also focus on accelerating excellence in science by initiativing through alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA) which a funding programme for innovation and research in Africa. One of the biggest programme run by the NGO was Wellcome Trust Centres for Global Health Research (WTCGHR) to collaborate with the institutions in UK having low income countries (Estevao and et.al., 2021). Wellcome has also running an four-year PhD studentship programme to support the research training for health professionals. Because of its long existence, it is operating all over the world by directly or indirectly funding the researchers and scientists at many steps of their projects. Their funding is supporting more than 70 countries across the globe and around 90% of UK activities are being taken care by the Trust in specific reference to the health issue (Thuy and et.al., 2018). The Wellcome Trust has more than 2000 permanent employees who are working for the continous growth of the NGO and the foundation is taking good care of there employees by Employee Assistance Programme which resolve the work-related issue and personal life problems. They could take assistance 24/7 and also run Volunteering Scheme for the learning and evaluating the development of the individuals and also help the foundation to reduce the cost by these programmes.
