Introduction
The WHS is a certification that provides the guidance about the safety standards of the
company. The same was checked in Australian Hardware Company that makes tools such as
those of gardening tools, construction tools. The WHS has studies certain incidents in the
company and based on that they are making certain policies to ensure that the employees are
safe and healthy. Moreover, the policies are made in accordance to cover all the internal and
external issues of the company. The Wollongong retail store has introduced a certain policy
for the safety of its employees. The same is inspired from and applied nationwide. There are
plans to introduce training sessions to the employees to make them understand the
importance of the safety and hygiene.
The company’s goals were also considered to make it a global leader and increase sales. The

1. Review the Australian Hardware scenario in Appendix 1
As per the standards of the WHS, the Australian Hardware has been providing with a lot of
hardware services to the people, but at the same time, they are not able to keep up with the
safety and health of the employees working there. The company has been into so much
hardware and lifting of the heavy machinery thus resulting in frequent injuries in the factory.

1. Arrange with your assessor to meet with the Wollongong workgroup health and safety
representative (HSR). Prepare to collect information on worker concerns and
effectiveness of existing controls for risk.
After the occurrence of so many health issues, it was seen that there have been certain issues
faced by the worker during their day to day work at Australian Hardware. One of them is the
constant heat pressure affecting the respiratory system of the team. There are many kinds of
chemicals used in the processing of the tools and their processes. There are certain electrical
fittings that are loose, thus this is affecting the day to day activities of the organization. There
is a need for basic safety checks like gloves, waste treatments, water treatment, safety shoes
and helmets (Kafel, 2016).
2. In a role-play, meet with the Wollongong HSR
In the meeting with the HSR of Wollongong, it was identified that the same will be done by

certain places that are needed to be worked upon as per the WHS standards, thus the outcome
gave us following places to work upon.

done every time.
Designing the fixtures and fittings in the way in order to comply with all the desired safety
measures.
Filter the air quality and maintain the noise and air pollution of the factory.
Medical facilities are also needed to be updated, like the preliminary facility to check the
patient, facility for serious injuries, medicines available for basic needs in the system (Kafel,
2016).
Staffing levels should also be according to the needs of the system, there should be proper
training given to the officials and the team members to check that they are well versed with
the safety policy of the WHS policies like Work safe act.

As per the discussion with the Wollongong store manager, there were certain problems that

problems and skin issues. The teams are now applying gadgets for cross ventilation and
treatment of air in the factory (Zanko, and Dawson., 2012).

eliminate that issue heavy duty cranes and pulleys have been introduced in the factory (Kapp,

In order to measure the risk measures in the system, there are certain measures as per
Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) made to implement the same in the system.
Timelines- There are proper timelines set to measure the proper following of the policy, they
are – every week maintenance of the equipment, everyday air and water check, every month
health check-up, the same was reviewed and implemented.
Resources- The resources for the same has been collected and implemented in the system
and all the respective stakeholders are contacted and trained to follow the policies.
Action plan- The action plan has been made to, first of all, identify the needs of the
company, understanding the needs of the company, collecting the resources and applying the
same effect in the system.
New policy introduction – Some new policies have also been introduced in the system, like

In the Australian Hardware, the major work done was the creation of the tools and the
hardware equipment for the gardening, maintenance, constructions. Based on the WHS
quality standards it is found that there have been so many incidences in the system, this has
led to so many fatal injuries in the past. This is mainly due to not following the safety
regulations followed by the employees in the system. By studying the basic structure of the
company it was found that the company was lacking in following the basic safety structure
like wearing gloves, helmets and frequent checking of the machinery and maintaining the
quality of the air and clean water supply to check the facility. The same goes for the

customers using blenders and the sharp blades cut their hands resulting in small injuries.
Also, some of the employees were facing the depression issues in the whole scenario due to

Introduction- The WHS policy has been focussing upon all the ethical and legislative
features that have been providing a proper guidance to maintain the health and hygiene in
Australian Hardware. In order to apply the policy properly, there are certain record keeping
activities has been introduced in order to apply the policies of the WHS.
In order to do proper record keeping, there has been following activities and that have been
kept in mind to keep the record and amend the current policies-
Recommendations
MIS should be maintained every day to keep the record of the day to day adherence to the
safety measures by the team. The same was understood in order to make sure that the quality
is not degrading every day.
Another level of recording is the checking of the quality done by the external auditors and the
result they deliver from the same. In order to check the facility, they are reports are checked
with previous year’s data to check the improvement or decrement of the quality.
Another level of record keeping is done by the senior members of the organization, they take
the reports from the internal and the external teams analyze the same and make protective
measures accordingly(Loeppke, et. al, 2015).

Wollongong retail store. The policies were made to make sure that the employees are
