moderate drinking is considered healthful?
Alcohol is a psychoactive substance and has active ingredients in drinks such as beer,
vodka, and wine. It is important to know what amount of consumption of alcohol is
considered harmful. For men, more than 5 drinks during 1 drinking session or more than 14
drinks in a week is considered risky. Whereas, for women four or more drinks in a day and
more than seven drinks in a week is considered risky. Alcohol plays an important role in
severe trauma wounds, motor vehicle accidents, suicides, and sexual assaults. Excessive
consumption of alcohol can increase the risk of heart disease, liver disease, cancer, sleep
disorder, depression, and sexually transmitted diseases. It will also lead to some other health
problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Excessive drinking can cause huge range
of brain damages especially during pregnancy. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can be
unsafe. It restricts individual`s mental moods, emotions, reactions and functions on multiple
levels. It also affects the central nervous system that causes difficulty while processing the
information and poses certain challenges with solving problems.
Regular drinking affects and weakens the immune system because it catches cold, flu and
other illness more often as compared to people who do not drink. Moreover, extreme alcohol
consumption damages while blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Each time of heavy
alcoholic consumption reduces the body`s immunity to handle infections. It disturbs the fine
motor coordination that leads to injuries from falls. Heavy drinking speeds up the normal
aging process and inability to remember the occasions. Apart from this, dysfunctional
drinking results into malnourishment and nutrient deficiencies. Excess of everything results
bad or worst whereas moderate usage of alcohol can benefit oneself.
