Introduction
5G is the advanced mobile communication technology which is reducing the limitations of
the current 4G networks by delivering large data rate and higher system capacity. In this
generation, the utilization of network technology is growing day by day and 5G is an
emerging technology that has the capability to enhance the performance of
communication channels and provide larger data rate to the consumers. The aim of this
paper is to compare the various cellular networks and identify the security related issues
linked with 5G networks. It is identified that 2G, 3G, and 4G these are oldest network
technologies that are not able to provide better and reliable communication services to
the consumers but 5G is an effective technology that addresses the issues and problems
linked with these network technologies [1]. This paper will focus on the major four points
including a comparison of cellular networks, the architecture of 5G, attacks on 5G and
issues linked with 5G networks. It is very important for readers to understand the
importance of 5G networks and evaluate the security issues and attacks associated with
5G communication channels and this paper will help readers for enhancing their skills in
the area of 5G networks.
Comparison of cellular networks
It is observed that most of the companies are using wireless networks and technologies
for communicating with the consumers and 5G is an emerging technology that improves
the effectiveness of the communication channels. 2G is the second generation of
communication networks that included various communication spectrums including 900
MHz, 1.8 GHz and so on but it is not much effective and secure in terms of privacy [2].
Moreover, it is identified that 3G is advanced technology of 2G that increased
communication spectrum and also provided 2 Mbps bandwidth that helped the users for
exchanging data over the networks. By comparing 3G networks with 2G it is observed
that 3G technology used the concept of CDMA modulation technique and wireless MAC
networks in order to improve the effectiveness of the networks and systems.
A recent study identified that in terms of speed and security 3G is more reliable and
effective rather than 2G but the consumers also faced data breach and cyber-risks while
using 3G networks.
