Work activities – Hazards associated with work activities
include the workers failing to use the correct technique to
lift or use the equipment, keeping the work place untidy
can lead to trips and falls and bits of dust going into the
eyes while using saw or any other tool. Cutting materials
can also cause injury to hands.
Substances – Dust from cutting wood using a saw or
from the site. There can also be chances of finding
asbestos in old buildings.
Equipment and Obstructions – The use of circular saw,
routers and hammer drills can cause a lot of noise.
Whereas obstructions can lead to trips and falls.
Resources – There can be certain material that are too

be dangerous to to work.
Therefore, everyone at the work site should stop their work
immediately and evacuate. While doing so, tools should be left
and the workers should move to the nearest fire escape. The
workers must be aware of the risks and comply to the
precautions in order to reduce risks at all times. They should also
be aware of the fire exists in the workplace. A site feedback book
should be made available wherein any kind of incidents can be

fire extinguishers relevant to the
work.
The appropriate types of extinguishers that are relevant to the
work include carbon dioxide for any kind of electrical fires, water
extinguishers can be used for incidents that are related to cloth
and wood. Water extinguishers consist of a red band and are
basically meant for solid materials, textiles and paper fires.
Extinguishers that have a blue band are meant for varnishes, any
kind of electrical fires and liquids that are flammable. The consist
of dry powder form which helps in putting the fire off. Lastly,
carbon dioxides extinguishers have a black band and can also
be used in case of electrical fires.
3.8 State how and when the
different types of fire
extinguishers are used in
accordance with legislation and
official guidance.
There are different extinguishers for different kinds of fire
