Introduction
In present time, there are ample of opportunities in hospitality and tourism industry. It
provides significant opportunities to the individuals to ensure career growth in future period of
time (Dahl, 2018). In the present scenario, Ritz London has been selected as a company. It is a
well-known organization of hospitality industry. It is a five star hotel of London which was
opened in the year of 1906. It is consider as one of the luxurious and prestigious hotel across the
globe. It has nearly 136 rooms and suited to offer the best possible facilities to the customers. I
am working as a front desk managers within the company where I am responsible to interact the
customers primarily when they enter into the hotel. I have good communication, presentation
skills with an effective personality. These skills and abilities make me a perfect fit for the
position. Being a front desk manager, I need to interact with several people. Here, my
interpersonal skills help in interaction with different individuals profoundly. The report will
cover personal development log along with plan of future development and reflective essay
based on the work experience.

Reflective Essay
Work based learning is related with different forms of learnings that take place in a real
work environment. The most common types of work based learning are apprenticeship, job
training, internship and more. It is basically an educational method that helps students in growth
by learning about the environment in which they will work in future period of time (Hughes and
Saieva, 2019). With this, one gets the real life work based experience that help in working the
actual environment in future. Also, it is crucial for self development as it provides opportunity to
a person to develop various skills and capabilities to attain growth in future career. This provides
professional experience that is important to work in professional context and employability.
In the present context, I am working as a front desk manager within a reputated company.
While working on the respective profile, I got opportunity to develop ample of skills that will
help me to grow in future career. Through the PDP analysis, it is found that I am lacking in
certain areas. During my job, I got opportunity to work on my weak areas to make further
improvements. Here, I worked on decision making, time management and technical proficiency.
My job helped me in improving these areas so that I can grow within hospitality industry in
future. Apart from this, I also develop numerous additional skills during my job which are
mentioned below:
 Scheduling: This skill is related with creating, updating and maintaining digital planners
or schedules for company’s operations. In this, I used to work closely with managers in
order to set the data, time for upcoming meetings, business trips, inventory deliveries and
more.
 Stress management: Being a front desk manager, I used to fulfill ample of duties at a
particular period of time. In addition, I used to guide the guests and help them with their
queries. Further, managing the team members was also my responsibility. While
performing such activities at a time, I develop stress management that will help in staying
calm and polite. This skill will significantly help me in future.

 Technical Proficiency: With increasing use of technology, it is important for a front
desk manager to use advance and updated techniques (Lai, Chen and Lee, 2019). While
performing my job role as front desk manager, I used to take help of ample of softwares
and tools to store and maintain the data appropriately. This helped me in enhancing my
technical skills to grow in hospitality industry in significant manner.
Learning theories depicts how the knowledge is received, process and retain during
learning. It helps in development and enhancement of an individual significantly (Al Mamun,
Lawrie and Wright, 2020). In present context, behaviorism learning theory applies profoundly as
it is helpful in understanding the behavior of guests who are visiting to the hotel. Here, I got the
opportunity to implement the respective learning theory in practical aspect. This will allow me to
analyze the needs and demand of the customers so that I can provide them better and effective
services.
Conclusion
Out of the above-mentioned information, it is found that work based learning is related to
different forms of learnings that take place in a real work environment. The most common types
of work based learning are apprenticeship, job training, internship and more. I am working
within a prestigious hospitality organization as a front desk manager. I developed ample of skills
while working on the particular profile such as communication skills, presentation skills,
problem solving skills and more. Further, learning during the job role also helped in developing
certain other skills such as scheduling, technical proficiency and more which will help me in
ensuring career growth in future.
