Introduction
Nowadays, companies around the world are acknowledging the importance of emotions and
attitudes in the workplace. They have discovered that not only do the employees get affected if
there are signs of negativity in the workplace, but indirectly the whole company does too. The
importance of the welfare of employees, who determine the company’s profitability, is being
recognized and companies have been taking different measures to make sure their employees are
satisfied with their working environment (Scheibe & Zacher, 2013). Thus, the managers and
company owners are trying their best to make sure that the work stress is not overwhelming for
their employees. Especially in work settings like hospitals, where the employees have to make
life and death decisions, deal with trauma, treat patients, consoling grieving family members and
more. Thus, working in the healthcare sector can be very stressful and the stress can in turn lead
to low productivity of the doctors, nurses, managers and other staff members (Elshaer, Moustafa,
Aiad & Ramadan, 2018). So, managing workplace stress as well as emotions can help avoid
building up of unnecessary negative emotions like fear, anger, and frustration. The paper will
talk about the different emotions, stress and attitudes in a hospital setting and also about the steps
one can take from an authoritative position, like that of a chargemaster coordinator, to improve
the workplace environment.

Discussion
Hospitals are an important part of the healthcare sector. Just like any other business, they too
need to be economically stable. Thus, hospitals have chargemaster coordinators, who help guide
hospitals on evaluating each treatment procedure and help implement proper charges for it. They
also would need to maintain harmony in the workplace if there is any change in the company
rules, regulations or pricing, that might cause problems in the hospital.
Workplace Emotions
Types of emotions in a workplace
Positive employee emotions in a workplace are hard to maintain, as the more diverse the
employees, the more diverse are their mindset, likes, dislikes, culture, beliefs and the harder it is
to satisfy them with some generalized company rules and regulations. Employees can portray
different emotions like being happy, sad, angry, fearful, satisfied, and more. Positive emotions
are directly proportional to justified salary structure, employee friendly rule and regulations,
employee relations with each other as well as with their bosses, and even the incorporation of fun
activities to help ensure reduction of work load. Job satisfaction plays a huge role in instigating
loyalty towards the organization as well as building up of a positive work environment (Raziq &
Maulabakhsh, 2015). Workplace emotions are directly proportional to employee production.
Thus, when an employee is satisfied with the job, he or she is most likely to be more productive
than another employee who is distressed and gravely dissatisfied with their job. Table 1 shows
the different emotional stages an individual can undergo.

Emotions influence attitude and behavior
Emotions play a huge role in determining the attitude or behavior of a person towards any
situation. Studies showed that the emotional experiences of the employee help shape their work
attitudes. When individuals nurture positive emotions, they tend to exhibit favorable attitudes
towards their job and their colleagues (Vogel & Wanke, 2016). So authoritative figures, like the
owner, managers and in this case the hospital’ s Chargemaster coordinator, should pay proper
attention to two models of attitude- cognitive and emotional. The emotions not only determine
the behavior of a person, they also help one understand one’s personality. Employees can have
positive emotions, as their natural trait, that is they can always be social, extroverted, happy and
some, can have negative emotions leading to with job dissatisfaction. Thus, these emotions can
affect a person’s attendance, work attitude, turnover, level of job satisfaction, company loyalty,
employee relations and more. Thus, all of these factors which determine a company’s
productivity and profitability are directly and indirectly related to emotions. So, authoritative
figures should make sure that they keep their employees happy and satisfied by building a safe
work environment, following a justified salary structure, ensuring no discrimination, taking
recommendations from employees during any change and many more.
Ideal emotions of hospital staff members
Hospitals can be intimidating for the patient and their family, thus the hospital staffers, can
provide comfort and mental support while providing the right treatments. Hospitals can be very
stressful for both the staff members and the patients, thus having satisfied employees can hep a
great deal in maintaining the harmony within the organization. Being calm, relaxed, satisfied,
understanding, patient is the most ideal set of emotions one can display in a hospital setting.
Efficient management of workplace emotions can be beneficial for a company as it would
