WORKS OF KEVIN LYNCH1Kevin Lynch is a well-known author and urban planner of the United States of America.The urban planner is known for being one of the early proponents of the activities that pertain tothe mental mapping (Chawla, 2016). Kevin Lynch has been famous for the work that he haddepicted on the various perceptual forms that are the environments in the urban areas (Larice &Macdonald, 2013). The author is known for his work that helps in theorizing the ways in whichthe physical environment influences the temporal processes that are involved in the planning ofthe urban areas. The following essay deals with the review of the various works of the Americanauthor and urban planner and attempts to provide the concerned reader with the understanding ofthe works that have been put forth by the eminent author.Kevin Andrew Lynch was the youngest child of an Irish American family and wasbrought up in the northern area of the state of Canada. The famous urban planner had beenserving the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippines area and had thereafter completed hisstudies at the MIT and secured himself a degree in City Planning in the year 1947 (Lynch, 2013).Kevin has been known to serve as an urban planner in the Greensboro region of North Carolinabefore being appointed as a respected teacher in the esteemed MIT by Llyod Rodwin (Rodwin etal., 2013). The urban planner had been awarded grants to conduct a study on the variousperceptions on the numerous urban forms and the urban development. The urban planner isknown to have conducted the concerned researches in the field of the urban development and thevarious forms of the same. The researches that were conducted by Kevin Lynch in collaborationwith Gyorgy Kepes were published in the book that was published in the year 1960, The Imageof the City. This book is considered to be a result of the researches undertake by the city plannerwhile shedding special light on the areas of Boston, the Jersey City and the area of Los Angeles(Salesses, Schechtner & Hidalgo, 2013). The book majorly deals with the researches on the

The book alsodelves into the various ways that the residents might have dealt with the mental map that havecreated in their own minds from the information that they were provided on the concerned city(De Lange & De Waal, 2013). The book majorly deals with the five major elements that areneeded to form the mental map of the concerned city. These elements might include the variouschannels that are used by the residents for the purpose of travelling, the boundaries within thecity like the buildings, the walls and the shorelines, the larger sections existent within theconcerned city, the intersecting points within the concerned urban area as well as the landmarkswithin the city (Ewing & Clemente, 2013). These researches might have helped the concernedfuture researchers by providing an insight into the concerned areas that deal with the mentalmaps that are formulated with the information that was provided to the concerned persons.The urban planner was also offered grants from the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization or the UNESCO in order to continue the studies in the fieldsof uses that were put forth by the youth that resided in the urban areas of Krakow, Melbourne,Salta and Toluca. The findings of the research that was conducted by the concerned author wasput forth in the book entitled Growing Up in Cities. The book was published in the year 1977and dealt majorly with the various matters that pertained to the studies on the spatialenvironments that were required by the adolescents who have been residing in the city (Derr etal, 2013). The concerned compilation of the researches undertaken by the eminent urban planneris expected to put forth the background study for the concerned future researchers on theconcerned area.
