Etiology
Diabetes is a chronic disease that is caused by a variety of factors depending on the type
of diabetes. Some of the major factors that result in diabetes include environmental factors,
family history, ethnicity and genetic makeup (Xu & Xue, 2016). However, the type I diabetes is
caused by elements such as chemical toxins within the food, unidentified component causing an
autoimmune reaction and viral or bacterial infection among others. Consequently, for type II
diabetes, the major causes are increasing age, bad diet, obesity and living a sedentary life.
Prevalence and Incidence Rate
According to the World Health Organization report, the disease has spread all over the
world. It is estimated that about 30 million of the Americans, for instance, have diabetes (Xu &
Xue, 2016). An approximate of about 2 million of their children have diabetes. However, for the
world population, half of the individuals have diabetes, and thus it is expected that in about 100
years to come, more of the world's population will become infected by the ailment. Such
estimation is due to the sedentary lifestyle that has been adopted by most people now across the
globe.
Treatment
There are many ways of treating diabetes. Each of the approaches is based on the type of
diabetes. For instance, the possible ways of treating type 2 diabetes include healthy eating,
meglitinides, metformin, sulfonylureas and thiazolidinediones among others (Xu & Xue, 2016).
Other treatment techniques include insulin therapy
