Improving Academic & Social Skills: A University Student Report

INTRODUCTION
Academic and social skills are one of important skills as it allows a person for purpose of
learning various things. There are different things a person learns during their academic life. On
basis of this, a person can develop knowledge and also helps them to improve efficiency. There
are different types of skills includes communication skill, presentation skill, decision making
skill, time management and leadership skill. This presentation includes meaning of learning
process and development of academic and social skills as it provide success to a person.

Learning processes
Learning in academic life can be described as acquisition of skills in order to develop core for
purpose of general curriculum in school like mathematics, social studies, science, langue and
other things. Learning helps a person to be skilled and more efficient in order to complete a
work. This process mainly consists four stages including preparation, presentation, practices as
well as performance. During the module, I learned about learning process and understand how
can I improve my learning. At University, my aim is to gain as much learning as I can as it will
also helps me to improve my competencies.
Academic and social skills:
Academic skills can be including important traits as well as strategies of a person that
allow them to be an effective student. It prepares a person for their career and also helps them to
be focused and motivated towards goals. It is also important in order to expose new ways of
thinking and helps a person to improve themselves. These academic skills are important for a
person as it allow them to be effective. It provides individual to develop good career opportunity.
It is also important for students to get good grades and focus on their studies. There are different
types of academic skills developed by me at university that provides me guidance for purpose of
completing my studies in effective manner. It also helps me to work on my weakness and get
opportunity for developing good career.
Social skills can be described as skills which helps a person for promotion of effective
communication with others. There are different types of social sills as well as different ways that
provide ways of communication to a person. These skills consist written, non-verbal, verbal and
visual communication that are used for purpose of message to other people. It is important skills

as it allows a person to work with other in a group or team. It helps a person for sharing their
perspectives in effective manner and also helps them to expand professional network. It makes
workplace more enjoyable and also helps them to gain feedback from another person.
Skills
There are different skills can be developed by me during my academic life. These skills provide
me guidance about how to improve my learning. On basis of this skill, it is easier for a person to
complete their education and also to be capable for developing career opportunities.
Communication skills: Communication skill can be considered as important academic and
social skills. It allows a person to share their thoughts, ideas, views and other things to another
person. On basis of these skills, a student can communicate with another person. It also helps
them to develop network in academic life which provide opportunity to a person in future period
of time. On basis of this skills, it can develop good carer opportunity as it is one of required skill.
Communication skills allow me to listen to teachers and ask them about things which cannot be
understand by students.
Time management skills: Time management skill is one of important skill that is required by a
person for completely different activities on time. On basis of this skill, student can invest time
only productive activity and can saves it to invest it from other activities. It is essential for these
students to develop time management skill. On basis of these skills, student can complete
assignment on time.
Presentation skills: It is one of skill that allow a person for purpose of presenting ideas and
thoughts through power point. It is a skill on basis of it, student can present ideas which allow
them to get good grades. It is not only helping students in their academic life but also in
professional life. Presentation is required in almost all types of business that is essential in order
to get good career opportunity,
Decision making skills: It is one of skills which allow student to make decisions in their
academic life. A student needs to make different decision that provide them success. On basis of
this skill, a person also makes choices among different alternatives. There are different decisions
to be made by a student in their academic life. It helps them to make career choices and also
helps to contribute for purpose of develop carer opportunity.
Leadership skills: Leadership is also a one of important skills that allow a person to make
initiatives and also influence other people for purpose of attainment of common goals. It is one

of important skill that allow a person for purpose of leading team and also make efforts. On basis
of these skills, individual is able to complete various group assignment.
CONCLUSION
From above mentioned project report, it can be concluded that academic and social skills are
important skills for a person in their academic life. It is important skills that allow a person to
complete their studies in effective manner. On basis of these skills, a person can improve their
learning and knowledge that provide them success in life. Some of these skills required by a
person includes leadership skill, decision making skill, communication skill, presentation and
time management skill. In order to develop these skills, a person needs to take various action and
also helps them to assess these skills.
