Research Methodology
There are various methods or approaches available for the accumulation of the information
required for conducting the research. In this section, methods or approaches will be defined
which will be used for the accumulation of the data. Knowledge of the research methods or
approaches will be developed in this section. Abu Dhabi has set a vision so as to develop the
economy and attaining the objectives defined in the vision. ADNOC is an essential element of
the economy of Abu Dhabi and its contribution to the Abu Dhabi’s vision has to be analyzed.
Leadership and governance have played a vital role for ADNOC for contributing to Abu Dhabi’s
vision 2030. Role of both these concepts will be discussed in this research and data will be
assembled regarding these concepts by using these methods or approaches. This will be done by
applying different methods or approaches by accumulating the relevant data from the different
sources.
Research design or method: different research methods are available and selection has been
made after analyzing these different research designs. After analysis of the different research
methods, an explanatory research method has been chosen. The explanatory research design is an
effective method which focuses on gaining knowledge of the aspects by exploring them in depth
(Rahi, 2017). This research design will help in developing an understanding of the reasons,
causes and impact of the reasons (Baskerville & Pries-Heje, 2010). This research design will
help in exploring the contribution of ADNOC towards the Abu Dhabi’s vision. Importance of
leadership and governance will be discussed in regards to the contribution of ADNOC to the
vision.

Research Philosophy: Positivism research philosophy will be adopted in this research program
so as to gather reliable data. This research philosophy focuses on using scientific methods for the
assembling of the data (Saunders, et. al., 2009).
Research approach: qualitative research approaches will be followed for the purpose of
collection of the required information. A qualitative approach will be used for the purpose of
developing knowledge of the different reasons, opinions and motivations which are attached to
the research topic (Turkenburg & McAuley, 2013). The motive behind using this approach is to
gain better insights of the problems or the aspects (Acaps, 2012). With the use of qualitative
research approach, information related to the research program will be accumulated. Leadership
and governance have played a vital role as these have enhanced the contribution to Abu Dhabi’s
vision 2030. Primary and secondary data will be assembled for developing knowledge of the
research topic and presenting the reliable data related to the research.
Data collection: data collection can be explained as the process of gathering data with the help
of different sources of data collection. The process of data collection will be initiated by using
primary and secondary sources of data collection. Primary data is the raw form of data which a
research accumulates directly and specifically for the research program (Lowry, 2015). Interview
or questionnaire will be designed for the accumulation of the primary data. Secondary data is the
second-hand data accumulated by other researchers for their work (Thomas, 2015). This form of
data is more reliable in comparison to primary data as the data is already collected and used by
other researchers.
Procedures and techniques: motive behind the execution of this research program is to
assemble data and analyzing the data for drawing the conclusions. For overcoming the limitation

of availability of short span of time, random sampling technique will be put to use. Random
sampling technique is an effective approach as it provides an equal chance to every sample of
getting selected (Banerjee, 2012). Random sampling technique will help in completing the
research program within the allocated timeframe and analyzing the data properly.
Research timeframe: it is essential to complete the research within the set timeframe for the
purpose of maintaining the relevance of the research. An action plan has been designed which
summarizes the different activities of the research. These activities will be initiated as per the
action plan formulated.
Collection of data and targeted market: data will be collected by using primary and secondary
sources of data collection. Data collection process will be initiated by forming a base of the
research questions formulated. Primary data will be collected with the help of the interviews or
questionnaire. Secondary data will be assembled from the data available over the internet
including journals, articles, notifications and websites.
Ethical consideration: ethics are crucial as ethical aspects help in analyzing the right and wrong
in an activity. Ethical considerations guide the individual for performing the activities in the right
manner. While conducting this research program, the focus will be on ensuring that the research
program is carried out in a proper manner without affecting any individual. During the execution
of this research, the focus will be on complying with the values. These values or principles
include unbiasedness, confidentiality and fairness.
Reliability and validity: the data presented in this research program is reliable and valid. For
maintaining the reliability of the research, data has been collected from the secondary sources
published after the year 2008. This will ensure that the data presented is updated.

Limitations: research limitations are the factors which can act as hurdle while executing the
research program. These limitations should be identified so as to analyze or evaluate the impact
of these limitations. Proper steps need to be taken for dealing with these limitations. Limitations
identified while conducting this research include the availability of short span of time, a shortfall
of the resources required such as human resource and finance and lack of access to the data. All
these limitations can adversely affect the research program.
