carry out the study in a directional way. For this, it describes the below stated tactics of research

methods. They provide right direction and systematised procedure for conducting the
research. The techniques of investigation have influenced the outcomes of study and its
findings. There are several types of research design and methods which are taken in use
for study having their own merits and demerits (Mackenzie and et. al., 2012). The
application of research design and methodology is founded upon the aim and nature of
the investigation. In this chapter, the scholar will describe the several methods and
tactics for doing research to assess the function of CSR activities for achieving the
competitive benefits in SME's in context of Black Lion Hotel. It will also talk about
particular reasons of choosing the methods and designs of research for evaluating
problems in investigation (VanPatten and Williams, 2014). There are several types of
research designs named explanatory, descriptive and exploratory. Each of the type varies
from one another. Explanatory design just provides explanation of the study and do not
provides in-depth analysis. Descriptive design describes the title which is selected.

from one another. Explanatory design just provides explanation of the study and do not
provides in-depth analysis. Descriptive design describes the title which is selected.
Whereas exploratory design is supportive in exploring new ideas and methods. For the

present study, descriptive research design is applied as it provides a deep analysis of the
title of research (Geerts, 2011). Research philosophy: It is also one of the essential tactics of the researchers for
choosing the most apt philosophy to carry out the investigation. It depicts necessary
assumptions of the researcher as these assumptions are based upon strategies of the
research. It helps the scholar in conducting investigation in a proper format (Williams,
2011). It provides a wide framework of the study which consists of beliefs and
understanding of different hypothesis, practices etc. Interpretivism and positivism are
two components of the research philosophy (Wildemuth, 2016). Positivism philosophy is
highly structured way and the results of study is identified by taking help of statistical
tools. On the contrary, interpretivism philosophy is based upon various beliefs and
values which provide clear justification of carrying out the research. Research approach: This is basically referring to the relevant formulation of study for
conducting a defined research by choosing inductive or deductive approach for the
research. Both the approaches are evident for highlighting the scope of study by either
broadening it or constricting it which is dependent on the chosen tactic. With reference
to this, the scholar in the present research has selected inductive approach for widening
the scope of the study (Riedl Davis and Hevner, 2014). Here the discussion will start
with a particular context of CSR and finishes with a generalised context. The qualitative
research technique prefers to collect data from the research. It has given a distinct view
to understand the study with a new perspective with the purpose of exploring new
theories and frameworks. For the present research inductive approach is very appropriate
to conduct the study as it is helpful for the investigator to evaluate the solutions of the
problem (Roberts, 2013). Data collection: This is for collecting a dependable set of data to conduct research of the
subject matter in a consistent way. For this, there are two leading measures to collect
data which are primary and secondary collection of data. In primary data collection, the
data is taken directly from the respondents of the research. It is done by the investigator
only to fulfil specific intent (Cozby and Bates, 2015). The data which is gathered from
this methods are original, fresh in nature and they are not gone from any type of
statistical methods. The key sources of primary data collection are direct observation,
title of research (Geerts, 2011).
The key sources of primary data collection are direct observation,

focusing groups, surveys, interviews and many more. On the other hand, secondary data
is gathered from the well-established information of different sources like magazines,
journals, online publications, books etc. these methods are less costly as compared with
primary data collection methods (Tavakoli, 2012). Data analysis: Data analysis is a method of executing different statistical and logical
tools to evaluate gathered data, it not only addresses the questions of research but also
provides direction to collect data in the future. The techniques of data analysis are
undertaken for evaluating the collected set of data for which there are two imperative
measures (Pierre, 2012). They are qualitative and quantitative measures of data analysis.
The present research has showcased qualitative analysis of data. This is preferred over
quantitative analysis of data for referring the subjective nature of the research title
along with a supportive context of this measure. Research limitations: There are some limitations for the researchers to conduct a
defined research. They are generally time and funds. Thus it is essential for the
researcher to conduct the investigation with a planning to finish the research in the
desired time frame and with a defined allotment of funds (Lather and St. Pierre, 2013).
Ethical concerns: This is also one of the dilemma of the investigator while carrying out
the research with a primary liability of taking preceding approval of the respondents to
volitionally take part in the research. They should not pressurised to take participation in
the investigation (Wildemuth, 2016). Along with this, some other ethical consideration
are to prefer authentic sources while researching data and information.

As per the above carried out study, it can be said that CSR is a necessary activity for the
cited organisation. Moreover, quoted hotel i.e. Black Lion is required to make some
improvements in its policies related with CSR initiatives. Further, there lies a relationship
between competitive advantages and CSR activities. Additionally, appropriate budget has to be
allotted for CSR activities. There are numerous strategies which can be applied through which
improvements can be made in the operations of the mentioned hotel:

P7 Reflection on values of undertaking research to meet objectives
For the purpose of carrying out this research in an effective way, there are various types
of research methods which are applied for completing research. I identified that organisation
required to design a plan which has to be appropriately scheduled and supervised. Further, there
should be goals and objectives made for making further steps to meet them. Then there is a need
for forming a Gantt Chart which enables to make a list of the activities which are to be
performed. I recognized that there are two set of strategies which are helpful for collection of
data. These are primary data and secondary data. When the data is gathered, then it has to be
assessed and it is done by taking help of thematics which consists of tables and charts. By
carrying out these methods, I have improved my understanding. For implementation of the entire
research, I identified that there are two types of techniques. These are qualitative and
quantitative. Both are necessary but for this particular study qualitative technique is being
preferred. Moreover, the strategic tools such as Z tests is being taken in use. Along with this,
there are distinct types of approaches which are utilised in the study. These approaches are
deductive and inductive. Both the approaches are supportive enough in conducting the
investigation in an effective way.
I faced some difficulties while making Gantt Chart. There are various type of activities
which are to be developed. By taking help of different sample and practices I was capable to
form an appropriate Gantt chart. Moreover, there are various set of questionnaires designed
which are supportive in knowing the views and opinions of people for CSR. It is necessary to
present the study in an effectual manner. For this motive, it is essential to take into consideration
the varied types of tools and methods which enables to present the data in an effective and
efficient manner. Also, I faced difficulties in development of proper analysis and to determine
the suitable solution for the problem. By practising and consulting the samples I was able to
understand the findings, analyse them and present in an appropriate manner. There were some
cases in which findings were very close which led to take proper solutions. By conducting
appropriate analysis, it was helping in making suitable results for the research title. By
which will lead to higher profits.
