INTRODUCTION
Communication is a way of interacting with other people's and sharing one's ideas and
belief's. An effective communication help to understand people, share ideas, avoid conflicts and
better decision can be formed. This leaflet is based on communication issues faced by students and
teachers in online classes due to COVID -19 pandemic.
Barriers to effective communication
There are several barriers to effective communication
Technical barriers- Technological barriers in communication can arise due to bad
connectivity and inability to use the technology in the appropriate manner. These barriers can cause
delay in the online classes and inability to deliver the message to the teachers and students.
Emotional barriers- Due to lack of face-to-face interactions, the performance of the
students cannot be analysed which increase lack of interest and demotivation.
Physical barriers- In online classes, as the students are not physically present in the
classroom, the teachers are unable to give proper attention to the students.
Noise barriers- As per the COVID-19 pandemic, the classes are conducted online, in
which background noises creates a barrier and no effective communication can be made.
Cultural barriers- Due to COVID-19, the cultural gap between the teachers and students
keep arising and affects the communication between them.
Effective strategies to overcome communication barriers
The various strategies which help in the smooth flow of communication and restraints the
barriers of communication are as:
Students should be asked to have a stable connectivity of internet as when the internet
connectivity will be stable enough it will encourage effective communication.
The college should have a separate student portal which becomes easily accessible and
convenient for both students and the faculties to access the portal from anywhere and also helps to
resolve all the technical issues.
The college should maintain the database system to store all the input of students and
important data of college.
The college should arrange virtual co-curricular activities so that students feel more
positive and reduce the hesitation of communicating in online classes.
