Running Head: REFLECTIVE ESSAY ON THE PRESENTATION OF HOME ECONOMICS
Introduction
Big companies like Google are surviving with the help of small informal teams, these task-
oriented teams act swiftly where the expertise and the experience of all the team members
come together for the commencement of a final product (Eric Schmidt, 2014). Recently I also
got an opportunity to work in a small team while preparing a presentation on the topic of the
“The responsibility of business fraternity towards Employees.” It was a learning experience
for me where I learned about many crucial points connected to the team dynamics and how
an individual can fix and switch roles while working in a small team (Eys, 2017).
My experience of working in a group
After the initial ice breaking session, we did the exercise of dividing the task into the parts.
This exercise forced two questions upon the group. The first question was related to the post
of the leadership and the second quest was connected with the work division (Conyne, 2013).
Here I learned the lesson that while working in a team we cannot afford to sit back, we need
to initiate and search for a role in the team (Keeler, 2018). It is not necessary to hunt for the
post of the leader; instead, it is better to search for the area of task where the personal
expertise of an individual can be utilized for the best results (Reeves, 2017).
1. My interaction with the theme
As far as the experiences of my life and the worldview go, I was not having any previous
experience of the topic connected to the responsibility of the business fraternities towards the
employees (Spillane, 2012). After the initial discussion, I have been awarded the job of

visuals for the purpose an exercise in itself, I thought that I am playing the role of a technical
person in the team (Iqbal, 2010). However, in order to put the best foot forward, I learned the
basics of the labor laws and other ethical practices in the field of labor-employee relationship
from my teammates, they also gave me an idea about the perception levels of our target
audience and it made my job easy and effective (Jackson, 2011).
The thing which went well
While taking over the job of the collecting and assembling corroborating facts and visuals, I
learned the concept of the value addition. It was a well written and well-compiled set of
information I got, my teammates appreciated my first draft and encouraged my thought
process, it also gave them a few ideas to change the main course of the content. It was an
exercise that moved well because of a lean and means feedback chain and the culture of
healthy and constructive criticism (Murari, 2015). All thanks to my teammates, I learned this
art of rendering and accepting healthy criticism from my teammates. This is one lesson that
will remain with me throughout my life.
Action Plan
It is the homework that holds the key; I learned a valuable lesson to become an efficient team
member from this exercise. During the first lap of the work, I became a non-functional entity
for my team because my homework with the topic was incomplete. In the coming projects, I
will make it sure to do sufficient homework on the topics that I am going to deal while
interacting with a team.

As a team member, the pendulum can swing both the ways, an individual can become a
liability for the team or he can become an asset for the team (West, 2012). The present
exercise gave me an insight that my homework on the topic can increase my chances to
become an asset for the team rather than becoming a liability during the period of the
gestation of the project (Judge, 2017).
For the future projects I will make it sure that I have a topic ready with me, in case I get a
topic at the last minute, even then I will research about it on a primary level and try to learn
as many things as I can during the sessions designed for the gestation of the project.
Conclusion
My previous assignment taught me two valuable lessons in my life. The first lesson is related
to my preparedness for the job. Indeed, these days' job markets are seeking for industry-ready
employees. This is why I should cultivate the habit of doing proper homework prior to
undertaking any job. The second lesson that I learned from this exercise is about the
rendering of constructive criticism. If anyone is pinpointing my mistakes then I should treat it
as a value addition in my work and I should feel thankful for him. I also learned the fact that
sometimes, we receive criticism because our leaders want to add value to our tasks. They
want to make it better.
