1.0 Self-reflection on personal learning and
development, and the transferable skills
1.1 Approach to personal learning and development
Personal development refers to a process of creating a series of steps that
are undertaken to develop skills, knowledge and abilities of a person with specific
purposes, aims and goals to achieve in academics, profession or personal life.
Personal development is a very important part of the growth activities within a life
that helps to achieve certain skills, abilities and knowledge for achieving their goals
in optimum manners. It requires improvement and development of certain
transferable skills that are helpful in achieving the goals with better knowledge (Blair
and et. al., 2018). Some of the personal development activities may include
increasing the performance of an individual by utilizing and developing good
communication, problem solving, critical thinking, leadership, time management etc.
to achieve success in personal, professional and academic lives of an individual. The
following report will present various competencies and skills that are required by an
individual for achieving success in their academics and professional career.
Moreover, it will describe approaches to personal learning and development, various
transferable skills and those scales that are required for academic, personal and
professional success. It will also explain about the personal development process
that could be helped in improving the learning activities with the help of an
improvement log. In the end it will provide an action plan for gaining specific learning
and development for achieving the desired goals and objectives effectively and
efficiently. This learning and development plan will improve the skills, abilities and
knowledge of a student to achieve academic and professional success.
1.2 Transferable skills developed by attending this module

learning and development process by gaining specific skills and knowledge by
identifying transferable skills. Transferable skills are those skills that are commonly
required to perform various activities effectively and efficiently and these are always

carried on from one place to another by an individual (Brown, 2018). These skills
always exist within a person wherever they may go because these skills do not die
and are carried by the person along with them. I developed many transferable skills
by attending this module that is elaborated below.
Communication skills: It refers to the ability of an individual to interact and
transfer data by exchanging information with others in a precise manner that
gives a particular meaning in a correct sense. During the module I determined
various processes that I must undertake to develop ideas into clear thoughts,
thoughts into words and then elaborating those words in a clear, precise,
efficient and effective manner that could be understood to others.
Technical skills: These skills refer to those scales that are required for
dealing with the technological aspects in our lives (Jansen and et. al., 2021).
During my academic course work and while attending the module I learnt
about the use of internet technologies, like cloud computing, digital platform,
web data etc. and the use of computer systems like Microsoft, calculator etc.
that can be helpful for extracting and processing useful information.
Conceptual skills: Conceptual skills can be defined as the know-how about
the concepts and theories in the practice that can be helpful to improve the
performance. It can be compared to the theoretical knowledge that I have
gained from the module work and various concepts, facts, models etc. that
can be helpful for getting better results. I developed knowledge about various
concepts, frameworks, models and theories that can be helpful in improving
the performance and creating best results for academic and professional
development.
1.3 Skills expecting to develop during my academic studies,
personal life and the workplace
It is very important to acquire certain skills, abilities and knowledge that can
be helpful in getting success in academic studies, professional life and personal
space (Mantzourani and et. al., 2022). I expect to develop many skills and abilities
during my academic studies, professional and personal lives that are elaborated
below.
Professional skills: It can be explained as the knowledge, experience and
skills that are required to get success in a particular field of career or

profession. The professional skills are very important for getting success in
the professional life and have better chances to get selected or preferred for a
given job role. The professional skills can be helpful to improve my
performance at the work and help me to achieve the desired level of
performance at the workplace to achieve organizational objectives and goals.
The professional skills are required to be developed for securing better
opportunities for growth and development in a chosen career.
Leadership skills and qualities: leadership can be explained as the ability of
an individual to influence the activities of other people for improving their
performance and engaging them voluntarily for achieving the desired
outcomes, goals, objectives or aims etc. I desire to develop leadership skills
for handling the opportunities to work with the groups by proper motivation,
teamwork, coaching, monitoring, evaluation etc. The leadership skills could be
helpful to improve my performance and the performance of others while
working in a group and maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the
efforts of individuals (Thomas and Cradduck, 2019).
Self-reflection: It is a process of examining and analyzing our performance
by evaluating the reasons for difference in desired or predicted outcomes and
the actual outcomes. I think that it could be helpful in developing my skills and
abilities by understanding my critical failures and deficiencies in my work.
Self-reflection is helpful for evaluating my overall performance and provides
ideas or insight for the places for improvement (Pugh and Broome, 2020).
Self-reflection could be helpful to enhance the overall performance by
identifying the problems and eliminating those problems in the performance of
an individual for achieving maximum efficiency and effectiveness of their
work.
