INTRODUCTION
Writing portfolio may be defined as the process of collection of students writing whether
print or electronic form which is intended to demonstrate the writer's development over one or
more academic terms. The main purpose of writing portfolio is that it enables the writer's
improvements and its achievement. This report discusses about the how could an individual
identify its skills as writer and how the process of writing composition has developed during the
unit. Present report also includes that how emerging self-knowledge of writing process and as a
writer could be developed in the students in order to develop their writing.
SECTION 1
Identity as a writer
It is important for any individual understand its identity a good writer and I write to learn
each and every time I write I learn new things every time. Writing helps me to organise the
knowledge which I obtain which develops a sense in me for everything. Writing has been a
serious part of business in me and that it is the reason I keep on writing in order to improve my
skills. To become a good writer I need to construct the writing in such a way that it should be
understood by the target audience, the little words, big words or made up words which are made
by me should be an easy grab for others. I believe that the only difference between a writer and
good writer is not a talent but an understanding of what a writer can not do for example if I am
not able to use big words then next time I need to improve myself which is sign of becoming a
good writer. During the unit my identity as a writer has developed in various ways which has
helped me to become a good writer. I have not published any work till date and even I don't get
paid for it but I still I am writer. My journey as a writer has been very good and full of challenges
like I lacked the creativity in my writing but within the period of time I have developed creativity
as a writer. I also have developed thinking ability in myself in order to become a good writer,
also writing anything needs a choice in order to write any specific topics. The choice writing
could be hand written or typed. Different audience requires different process of thought and I
have developed the ability provide such thought process to them. Every piece that I have written
is written with good content with proper structure and with good presentation. During the unit I
also have developed by rephrasing and editing skills which is really important for becoming a
good writer. Also, I have developed a skill and knowledge how draft a proper conclusion at the

end of the composition which is really important for any content written as it provides the key
findings of the topic.
Developing the writing process
I also have developed an understanding process of writing in me before starting to write
anything I am thinking the topic on which the composition is written. For this I give the topic
personal story which is shapes a point view then I ask some questions to myself about the topic
lie what I am writing about, what I want to achieve from writing, what are my personal views
and what I want audience to understand from it. This stage is called the pre-writing stage in this
stage I have to frame a title for the topic which is the important part before beginning the
composition and gives an audience an idea what a composition is all about. After deciding the
topic and the plan then I have start writing process which is also called the drafting the essay. I
know that drafting can not always be perfect the only goal of drafting to draw the outline of the
composition. While drafting a composition I ask some questions to myself like Am I sharing the
authentic detail?, are my idea well organised?. Should I include more information or not?.
Sometimes I write more than one draft before getting to next step. After framing a draft them I
do revision of the entire composition, I read my writing and go through the content. It is the stage
where I focus only on the content, is my content right, is it rightly developed and present which
could be easily understandable for the audience. After making the revision of the entire
composition then I make the editing of the content which I think is not relevant or is of no use
which is not understandable for the audience. I have developed a knowledge and understanding
in myself how to edit the certain content and it is really important part.
Three piece of journals
To write about the things I don't understand.
In order to write something that I don't understand, one should start with the research
what a writer wants to write about he/she should understand and know the topic which a writer
has to write about. First of all writer should remain calm and should try to look for new words
and the research about the topic and start writing. Then writer should do some more research,
edit the draft and proofread in order to check facts once again and at the end get feedback.

To compose a reflective essay for answering the question, it does not requires research
and its aim is to provide the opinion and provide reflection as well as experience up to the
conclusion. It does not require validity but needs to present your experience that an individual
had. It should be always written in first form in order to answer the question and explaining the
entire experience for beginning to end with introduction and conclusion high lighting the major
points which are being asked in the question.
My writing became more than it has been before.
After every easy or unit the writing skills and knowledge develops in the writer, there are
always something which a writer learns from his writing experience and which allows the writer
to improve their skills. At the beginning of the writing career there some mistake which a writer
makes but over the period of time writer overcome its weaknesses and develops him/her as a
writer.

Emerging self-knowledge as a writer and writing process to be informed to students
Being a writer I have developed a knowledge and skills of writing which could prove
essential for the students which could help them in developing their writing. In order to develop
the writing skill in students first of all a student should be able to understand the topic that he or
she wants to write about if the topic they don't know the topic then they should gain the
information about it. Also, a student can learn and develop its skills through writing constantly
and point out the errors which they have made and need to correct them. It can be done by
providing the feedback and guidelines for correcting them (To write about the things I don't
understand). On the basis of cognitive theory of writing a student should focus on its four key
points first is that writing should be best understood as a set of distinctive thinking process while
writing a composition, also students should stage the models of writing a composition at the
beginning. While writing the content or drafting the content included in the composition should
be such that it should be able to influence readers. For this student has to be the effective
planners as planning acts as tool for figuring out how to develop a proper structure of the
composition. It involves acts of generating of ideas which includes collection of relevant
information that too in well organised form. Another thing which a student have to keep in mind
in order to become a good writer is that they should have good translating skills by putting an

idea into visible language. Within the process of translation a writer is required to juggle all
special demand of the composition. Also, while writing a composition a writer have to devote its
conscious attention towards its spelling and grammar otherwise it can decrease the quality of
writing even though it contains all the required content. Also, students should review its content
which can be divided into two sub-processes such as evaluation and revising. By revising a
student will come across the errors and mistake has done while drafting a content it may also
sometimes include the unplanned actions which a writer has to take which is called the process
of editing (My writing became more than it has been before). Here writer has to edit its content
which is no use or is of confusing in nature. Also, students should monitor its progress and
current process of writing which can help the student to become a good writer. So, based on the
cognitive process theory of writing a student should be able to identify three important process of
writing which are plan, translate and review which can help the student to develop as a writer.
For a student to become a good writer he/she should adopt appropriate literacy strategies
which may include the variety of strategies in order to make sense of something which they read.
A student should have the capabilities of making a meaningful sentence and it can be done in six
different ways. First is making connections and visualising; a student should be able to make
connection and visualising, students should be encouraged to make connections first text to self
then text to text and then text to world. Students should be make the mental picture and
visualising the words they read. When they will be able to visualise the words they will be able
to understand the elements, and they will write them up. Next is questions and inferring; when
students read the text questions should be asked them which will result in the engage them
deeply and will be able to understand the text and will also clear their doubts. A teacher should
point out the natural questions from the text and ask them to students which will result in their
involvement within the text. At the end a teacher should make the students understand the
importance of the text and every thing which is read by the students what is important should be
remembered for the long term. Also, this will allow the student to move through text coherently
and develop a line of thinking which can help their reading make sense. Once students have
finished reading text then teacher should analyse the synthesizing process of the students, here
teacher has to check to what extent student's thinking has changed. This strategy will allow the
students to make sense from the text read which involves pulling of the all information gather
together by highlighting the important points. It will also help the students to draw the

conclusion of their own. One of the best synthesizing strategies which can be adopted is writing
a reflection of the text at the end (Composing the reflective essay to answer the question). While
writing a reflection it allow the students to express their experience and learning and
understanding that they had while reading the text. So, these strategies are the best way which
can help the students to develop their writing skills and knowledge. While writing a reflection a
student can not only reflect their knowledge but may also create something new out of two or
more pieces of writing.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above report that creating a writing portfolio is important
for a student to become a good writer which can help a student to develop an understanding of
how to write the composition. In order to develop as a writer it is important for a writer to
understand the theories of writing which are introduced in the unit and also the approach used.
