Introduction
Basically, pursuing EdD program needs a lot of effort. This means that for one to succeed in the
EdD program there is a need to concentrate on the concept contained in the course. The EdD
program most of the times attracts the innovative learners who have the leadership skills that aids
in training other learners in different concepts (Gibson, Shanks & Dick, 2017). The paper tries to
elaborate on how my academic details and professional skills equipped me to pursue the EhD in
education.
How my academic experience prepared on pursuing EdD.
Generally, the main aim of learning is to prepare learners for new careers and also acquiring new
knowledge. Some of the academic professional skills which have enabled me to prepare for the
program are;
First, EdD requires 54 credits for degree completion. I have completed the credits needed to
pursue the program. I have gained adequate knowledge that will assist me in pursuing the
program. This is attributed to my academic level and therefore I am determined to pursue the
program. According to Kelley, Smith and Fox (2013) knowledge directs learners on what is right
and wrong. This means that I have gained knowledge which is related to EdD in education.
Pursuing the program at higher levels means that I have knowledge of how to handle teaching
practices and how to manipulate different data to describe a common phenomenon. In addition, I
have been demonstrating strong ethics and commitment in my profession and therefore I think all
these features will enable me to handle the concepts in the course.
The other concept which encouraged me to pursue the program was the issue of the social
network (Snaith, Harris & Harris, 2016). This means that I have been interacting with different

learners and teachers who most of the time helps in understanding the concepts thus giving a
direction. I have been meeting with different professionals who keep on boosting my skills
through training. Through the interaction, I have gained professional skills which are related to
EdD in education.
Also, the academic experience has increased my confidence in learning different programs
related to the subject. I believe that greater confidence brings greater career advancement.
Through confidence I have in my academic, I will be able to pursue the program easily. Through
determination and confidence, I believe that I will be in the position to learn the soft skills
needed to pursue the program. I have communication skills and data presentation techniques and
I hope this will help in mastering the content included in the program.
Significant problem relevant to the current context of professional practice.
During my professional practice I have realized that I am yet to understand the leadership skills
which are important for the EdD program. The main aim of the EdD program is to enable
learners to increase their workplace leadership skills. In my current profession have been
struggling on how to control the subordinates in the workplace and that's why I have decided to
apply for the program. Leadership skills are the key aspects which help in regulating the
behavior of subordinate in the workplace. Without adequate skills then it will be difficult to
maintain a good relationship with other subordinates (Watts & Imig, 2012).
Importance of problem in the educational landscape and also to the professional practice that
offers a solution.
Leadership skills play a key role. There are different skills which have been described by
different researchers. Leadership skill in education system involves being responsible and also

observing the code of conduct. This means observing different concepts such as participating in
the decision-making process. The issue of decision making in any field helps to identify
problems facing society. Also, leadership skills encourage innovation practices. Having the
leadership skills it means that I will be in a position to find new ways of doing things within the
organization. In addition, leadership skills will account for initiative practices which will help me
to deliver the solution needed to respond to a certain problem (White, Louis, Joyner, Townsend-
Howell, Simmons-Yon & Griffin, 2014).
The potential solution to the problem will be learning leadership skills (Thomas, McIntosh &
Mensik, 2016). I have realized that there is a need to enroll in a new course so that I can be
trained as a leader.
In conclusion, through the academic experience and professional skills, I will be in a position to
enroll for the program. I have adequate knowledge which will enable me to pursue the EdD in
education. On another hand, acquiring leadership skills will help me to control my subordinate in
the workplace. Therefore pursuing the EdD will be easy since I have some academic prowess
which is related to the subject matter.
