This report is based on the Travelodge Hotels which has a large chain of hotels in the UK. The
report will focus on the role of restaurant manager of the hotel which has liability to manage
guest services in the restaurant. The manager has a duty that their guests have to be greeted well,
be seated quickly and get the best possible food and services. In this report, a set of
responsibilities and performance objectives will be explained in the starting and evaluation of
manager against these objectives will be done. This report will also provide some
recommendation to fill the gap in attaining performance objectives and some motivational
techniques will also define to use in the work.
1.1 Develop a set of own responsibilities and performance objectives
The restaurant manager having some significant responsibilities in the organization which is
given below:
Personal responsibility: It is essential for the restaurant manager to keep all services in an
aligned manner to provide better services to the guests of the Travelodge. The restaurant
manager has the responsibilityof arrangement of restaurant area to run operations smoothly to
provide the bestassistance on behalf of Travelodge. Greeting, seating, catering, ordering and food
delivery is the key responsibility of the manager in perspectives to guests. Either then this,
restaurant manager have to provide training to the team to implement better coordination and
guest hosting qualities in them.
Direct and indirect relationships and adaptability: The restaurant manager has to develop
direct and indirect relations with the teammates to develop a better coordination and implement
fluency in the work.
Effective decisions for the team: decision making is a part which has to take significantly by
the restaurant manager by considering the deliverables does not have to affect negatively. The
restaurant manager is also responsible to make situational decisions and long-term decision for

the betterment of the team. Consideration of team members is also essential in the decision-
making process so the manager has to involve the staff member also in it.
Performance objectives are the milestones which help an employee to continuously grow his
contribution to the attainment of the organizational objectives. Performance objectives of the

Growth in sales: It is the most significant performance objective for the restaurant manager to
attain and cross the sales of restaurant area as compared to the last financial area. This is the key
performance objectives for the restaurant manager to enhance the contribution to the growth of
the Travelodge profits and revenues.
Increase in a number of customers: It is essential for the restaurant manager to enhance the
number of customers in the current financial year as compared to the last financial year.
Ambiance, quality of service and food etc. are the significant factors which are considered to
build a better effect on the guests of the hotel.

It is essential to measure the effectivenessof the manager against the defined objectives which is
given below:
Growth in sales: It is the mostsignificant objective for the restaurant manager own skills of the
managers to attain it. Analytical, decision making, communication, coordination etc. are the
same basic skills which are needed in the restaurant manager to enhance his performance to
attain this performance objective.
Enhancement of customers: This performance objective has a much need to communicate with
a guest to take their feedback and review about the services of the Travelodge. It is found that
manager is not much effective to communicate with the clients so it is essential to listen to the
clients and analyze what they want in the services which can enhance the effectiveness of the
hotel on them.

It is essential for the restaurant manager to implement these recommendations which can help
him to attain the performance objectives:

which helps to exchange or share views. So it is essential for the restaurant manager and other
team members to listen to the needs of the guests and make effective rely on it to communicate

1.4 Review how motivational techniques can be used to improve the quality of performance
It is essential for the restaurant manager to implement the motivational techniques in the team to
enhance the performance of team members to maximize the contribution tothe attainment of
organizational objectives. Some motivational techniques are explained in the below which can be
used in the organization:
Herzberg two factor theories: It can be used in the company in the restaurant area to enhance
performance by motivating employees. This theory contains motivator and hygiene factors which
are explained below in the organizational context:
Motivator factor: In this category, those factors are considered which provides motivation and
satisfaction in the employees. The restaurant manager has to develop different designation in his
team to attain it employee will feel motivated (Ghazi, et. al. 2013).
Hygiene factor: These factors work on the dissatisfaction and lack of motivation in employees.
Different benefits and incentive plans have to be developed by the restaurant manager with the
help of the HR managers which help to provide a better quality of services to the guests
(Alshmemri, et. al. 2017).
Maslow’s hierarchy needs theory: It is an effective theory which works on the different types

Belonging and love need: It is essential for the team manager to develop a healthier relationship

Esteem needs: It works on the self-confidence level of employees by providing respect from
others.
Self-actualization: A mindset to attain a designation improves the focus and quality in the

management can be elaborated as:
The first and foremost problem being faced by the authorities is that there is a lack of
management of the resources between different departments that act as a barrier to attaining the
level of efficiency. This further leads to the disturbance and delay in the working patterns. For
the purpose, management needs to take appropriate step to handle all such issues. As such the
management must ensure proper and systematic working so that the resources are utilizedin a
proper and appropriate manner leading to the better attainment of the goals and objectives.
Further provided, another problem that can be faced by the concerned group of hotels is related
to the different opinions of the different employees working in the concern. As such it becomes
difficult for the management to deal with diverse opinions. For the purpose, it is required that the
management of the Travelodge integrates the opinions of different individuals in one direction
that is reaching the goals and objectives in the desired manner.
It is advisable for the concerned hotel to manage the problems effectively that arise due conduct
of the operations so that they do not act as a barrier in the smooth conduct of the operations.
