This report is based on Travelodge. It is hospitality industry in United Kingdom. It was founded
in 1985 and headquartered at England. This report will explain own responsibilities and
performance objectives as HR manager. It will evaluate own effectiveness against defined
objectives. furthermore, study will explain motivational techniques for improving quality of
performance. This report will describe solution to work based problems and effective time
management strategies. It will analyse roles people play in a team and how they work together to
achieve the shared goals. This study will analyse team dynamics. It will also suggest alternative
ways to complete tasks and achieve team goals.
TASK 1
1.1 Responsibility and performance objectives of HR manager.
Personal responsibility:
Being a HR manager in the Travelodge, my responsibility is to develop coordination
among all employees and make them able to perform their duties well. HR manager needs to
have adaptability skills whereby they can adapt changing work environment and can manage
work accordingly.
Decision making process :
I am responsible for making decision in the business. I have to take decision on several
issues such as raising motivation level of employees, resolving conflict situation. If there is new
technology in the market then I have to take decision of providing training to staff members so
that people can perform their duties well (Lin, Wang and Ellingwood, 2016). I have to make the
policies which can be beneficial for Travelodge.
Resolve the problems:
Document Page
This is another responsibility of mine; I play the role of problem resolver. Being a HR
manager of Travelodge my responsibility is that I have to resolve the problems that occur in
business.
Performance Objectives
I want to be able to present myself at corporate level within 2 month.
My performance objective is to become a good planner and develop my communication
skill to great extent with 1 month.
I want to develop my knowledge about employment policies and laws.
1.2 Evaluating own effectiveness against defined objectives.
Professional standards state that HR manager of the company needs to have good
communication skill. Individual must be able to interact with others well and must make people
aware with their roles and responsibilities. I want to become good communicator but recently my
communication skill is not good. I am unable to make people understand with their role and
responsibilities. Due to cultural difference sometimes I fail to understand their problems and that
is why my communication is not appropriate with them.
My performance objective is to present myself very well at corporate level. Recently I
have average presentation skill. I cannot properly present in front of large audience. I am under
confident person and whenever I have to present in front of large audience then I feel so nervous.
I need to improve my presentation skill because HR manager have to present many things in
front of employees and higher authorities. This always aids them in meeting the organisational
goal and making people aware with the existing position. This enhances clarity at workplace. But
as my presentation skill is average thus, I need to work upon it so that I can meet the professional
standards (Claridge and O’CONNOR,2018)..
My performance objective is to become good planner, being a HR manager it is my
responsibility to plan everything so that task can be completed on time. If planning is not
appropriate then it might create issue in accomplishment of task badly. Recently my planning
skills are average. I am not that much effective in it, I need to improve this skill so that I can
become a good human resource manager in the organisation.

As a HR manager, my duty is that to support the company policies and I make people
aware from these policies and procedures. I use the motivational tools because it helps to retain
the skilled employees in firm for longer duration. My motivational skills are good thus; I can
perform my task well and can enhance employee satisfaction. But still I need to develop my
knowledge about new HR policies and updated employment law so that I can frame correct
policies and can run business significantly.
1.3 Recommendation for improvement.
It is very important for me to improve my lacking skills so that I can proof myself well.
This improvement will help me in performing my duties well and leading employees well. My
communication skill is not good thus, in order to improve this skill I should attend seminars and
have to coordinate with seniors. This tactic will support me in developing my coordinating skill.
After that I would be able to interact with team members well and making them aware with their
role and responsibilities (Buchanan and McCalman, 2018).
My presentation skill is very poor, but if I want to perform my role well in business then
defiantly I require to work on my presentation. For that I should attend seminars and have to look
upon the people who present in front of large audience. This will help me in raising my skill. I
can take the guidance of my higher authority, this will raise my confidence and I would be able
to present myself well in front of large people. For improving my planning skill, I need to
observe the seniors and need to take their suggestions seriously. Furthermore, If I read case
studies of other business then this will support me in knowing that what authority does if some
critical situation arises. This would be beneficial in order to improve my planning skill and I
would be able to make proper plan for each situation (Wirth, 2016).
1.4 Motivational techniques used to improve quality of performance
Motivation is considered as most essential element that aids business in retaining talented
people in the firm for longer duration. There are several ways through which Travelodge can
encourage its employees and can raise their quality of performance:
Provide incentives: Travelodge provide incentives to their employees. If workers
perform well than company provides incentives to them that motivate them. Through this
technique, staff members do their work with concentration therefore their working quality gets
improved. This is beneficial in order to meet their needs and people will like to work in
organisation (Herzberg, 2017)..

Rewards & recognition: It always encourages employees. Travelodge use this
motivational technique and appreciate the workers those who are performing well in business
unit. This recognition encourage them and they become loyal towards brand. Thus, it helps in
enhancing their contribution and raising quality of performance as well.
Participation & involvement: Travelodge takes feedbacks. from its employees.
Managers of company involve people in decision making process that makes them positive. By
this way people contribute well in achieving goal of business unit (Wirth, 2016).
TASK 2
2.1 Solutions to work-based problems
There are many problems which occur in an organisation like technology, lack of
awareness, employee problems which includes opposing interest, different values, poor
communication etc. The major issues that I have faced in the Travelodge are cross-cultural
differences and staff turnover issue. Both these problems affect overall performance of business
to great extent.
Solution for cross-culture issues
Travelodge hires different people in the company, it looks upon the ability of person
rather than their culture. When other cultural people come to the one place then they fail to
interact with each other effectively. In such condition confusion takes place and over task does
not get completed on time. Workforce diversity refers similarities and differences among
employees in terms of age, gender, cultural background, physical abilities and disabilities etc.
When company becomes more diverse, then it increases conflict. (Macdonald, Burke and
Stewart, 2017). For resolving this problem Travelodge should organise informal meetings with
staff members. This will help in building relationship with staff members and people also get to
know each other. By this way confusions will not take place and employees will understand
language of other cultural person. This is the best way to deal with cultural issue in the
organisation.
Solution for staff turnover issue
Employee retention is the big task for every manager in the organisation. Manager of the
firm are responsible for retaining skilled people in firm so that they contribute well in
Document Page
accomplishing goal of business unit. If staff turnover is increasing in Travelodge then manager
of the firm has to motivate staff members by offering them incentives, recognition. This
technique will defiantly help in raising loyalty of employees and they will like the workplace
environment. This is the way through which staff turnover can be minimised in business (Hu,
2018). Organising informal meetings and training session are another solution to resolve this
issue. If manager of the firm conducts training session then people will be more aware with their
role and responsibilities. This will give them more option to raise their performance and get
promotional opportunities. This makes them positive towards the brand and support in
minimising this work based problem.
2.2 Variety of style and appropriate manner at various levels with example a formal letter to
senior management.

Respected sir,
This is to inform you that Travelodge suffer the staff turnover problem, unclear
company goals, cross-cultural issue etc. This is such a big problem in business unit.
Travelodge should takes support of appropriate communication platforms to coordinate with its
staff members. In order to pass information to lower level employees company needs to take
support of e-mail. This will help in making them aware with the changes and written
communication will not create any confusion in their mind. Furthermore, in order to pass any
detail to management level employees Travelodge can take support of face to face meetings.
This would be better in making them aware with requirement of these changes and causes of
this meeting and they will handle lower level workers accordingly. For passing information to
board of member’s entity should take support of fax and telephone. This would be suitable way

2.3 Effective time management strategies
Time management refers the ability to manage time effectively (Masuda and Kostopoulos,
2016).
Document Page
Prioritize tasks- Prioritize the tasks is an essential time management technique. It is the
main strategy that can be used by manager of Travelodge. If tasks are being prioritised then all
people will get to know important task and they will complete it first.
Eliminate distraction- Distraction becomes the reason of decreasing productivity. In
order to eliminate distraction manager can prohibit use of mobile phone. This would help in
effective utilisation of working hours thus, tasks will be completed on time (Tuckman stages of
group development, 2018).
Scheduling: This is another great strategy, if all the tasks are properly scheduled then it will
be manage and will get completed on time.

3.2 Analyse team dynamics.
Team dynamics is a positive force which influences team and lead in right direction with
high performance and behaviour. To understand team dynamics Tuckman is the best medal.
This model was developed by Bruce Tuckman in 1965(Tuckman stages of group
development, 2018). It is based on team development and relationships over team. This theory
has derived four stage to achieve the shared goals by team members. These are forming,
storming, norming and performing.
In first stage of Forming team member efforts to gain trust of each other in Travelodge.
In this stage member are highly dependent on leaders for direction and guidance. For that team
member are motivated by leaders.
In the stage of Storming tea members establish relation with other team members' and
start working with each other. Team has to concentrate on aims and goals rather than distract
themselves by emotional issues and relationship(Allen and Rodriguez, International Business
Machines Corp, 2016).
In the third stage of Norming team members start working in full manner. Role and
responsibilities are cleared and acceptable for workers. Team supports leaders to establish

standards, methods, rules and values. Workers are focused for achieving gaols. This makes team
more effective and increase efficiency.
Last stage is Performing stage. In this stage, team members are focused to achieve shared
goals with high level of performance. Workers are knowledgeable, motivated and able to make
correct decision without supervision. Team shared vision and able to achieve without
participation of the leaders.

3.3 Suggest alternative ways to complete tasks and achieve team goals.
Team goal is a particular object that motivates workers to do their best. To obtain
complete task or goals team should be well known about resources, planning, deadlines, progress
etc. there are some alternative ways to complete tasks and achieve team goals.
Planning: making plan is necessarty to obtain goals (Herzberg, 2017). For execute plan,
one person in team must responsible and accountable for keeping team informed and tracing the
programs deviding rolesand repontivility to team members. This will help team to get right
information about task and goals that will help them to achieve them.
Monitoring and Feedback: Travelodge needs to monitor its operations and strategies at
work place because it improves procedures and increase effectiveness of employees. There are
