Title: To investigate the role of employee motivation in improving organizational
productivity. A study on Sainsbury’s.
TASK 1
Week 1: Introduction to Research
Employee development is described as an employee's passion, energy level, devotion,
and quantity of innovation brought to the organization in the long term. Motivated employees
are very important to any firm, and their success is directly proportionate to their motivation.
Motivation is ethereal, hard to measure, and exceedingly tough to regulate, but if done
correctly, it is quite easy to assist (Eshkulovich and Tashbaevich, 2020). It all comes down to
aim, energy, and tenacity. Current research is based on analysing the role of employee
motivation in improving organizational productivity as it provides vast knowledge about how
motivated employees assist company in attaining their targets in stipulated time frame. For
this research, as a researcher I have set research aims and objectives that help me in gathering
authentic data. In order to take accurate decision, SMART objectives need to be developed as
it provides specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. With the assistance of
this, investigator can analysis the topic and gather reliable information.
Research aim:
The main aim of this research is “To investigate the role of employee motivation in
improving organizational productivity. A study on Sainsbury’s
Research Objectives:
To analysis the impact of employee motivation on organizational performance in
upcoming 2 months.
To determine the different motivational techniques to motivate employees at
workplace of Sainsbury’s in next 30 days.
While undertaking research various issues can be arise that may create negative
impact over the end results. In this, lack of time, resources, unethical behaviour of
respondents and many more. All these are the major issue that may create complexities in
gathering authentic data on the basis of employee motivation.

Employee motivation play a crucial role in business organization as it provides
assistance to company in improving the organizational growth (Ponce and et. Al., 2021).
Thus, it is crucial for manager of company to provide proper motivation and encouragement
to employees so that they can give their best efforts and attain their determined goals and
objectives. Along with this, both employee motivation and organizational productivity is
interrelated with each other. If manager provide proper rewards and encouragement to its
workers then they perform well and also improve overall performance of business
organization. For attaining the same, manager of company also uses motivational theories and
methods to motivate their employees. This will directly contribute in attaining competitive
growth at market place.
Week 2: Types of Data in an Organisation
While undertaking research, it is significant for researcher to gather reliable data on
the basis of specified research topic and specified area of interest. For collecting data,
researcher use different methods and tool to gather data and information. In this, primary and
secondary method will be used to acquire detailed and authentic information. As, it helps in
taking valid and reliable decision at the end of the investigation. By using primary method,
researcher prepare a questionnaire that includes open-ended questions that may assist in
gathering measurable information (DePoy and Gitlin, 2019). On the other side, secondary
method of data collection is also used to acquire detailed and theoretical information to draw
a valid conclusion. Along with this, all the aspects including data, knowledge and information
are different from each other’s because data is collected from specified human participants as
per their awareness and understanding. Knowledge is acquiring from different aspects like
any kind of educational activities and other hand information is all about related with already
published aspects. Basically, data is easily transforming into information with this help of
assigning a specific meaning or context. The main advantage of using primary method is that
it provides authenticity and specific nature of data towards selected topic. Other side, it is
also a very time consuming and cost consuming as well. Furthermore, information is much
more refined data that evolved to the point of being useful for some analysis. On the other
side, knowledge is happened by human experience and applied to data and any kind of
information. It is based on already existing data based on previous study. Apart from this, the
drawback of this study is that researcher face difficulty in obtaining information towards
specific needs.

Week 3: Collecting Data & Evaluating Sources
Data collection is the most important aspect of the study as it plays vital role in
gathering significant information to generate significant result. This section is widely relay
over two aspects i.e. primary and secondary sources of data collection. The two sources of
information are different from each other as the primary research is imperative in gathering
first hand information and providing support in gathering specific information. In this
information accumulation is based on survey, questionnaire, interview, focus group, case
study and many more. whereas, secondary investigation is widely relay over already
accumulated information as here data collection is based on already published articles, books,
journals and so on that are based on specified subject.
For the execution of this present study based on the aspect of investigating the role of
employee motivation in improving business productivity, both primary and secondary
sources are implementing by the researcher as these two are significant in gathering reliable
and specific information (Tahsildar and Hasani, 2021). However, primary research is mainly
being executing with the support of conducting survey where questionnaire is being designed
to gathering specific information. on the other side, secondary sources like books, journals
and articles are effective in developing theoretical perspective about the study area.
Secondary data is mainly being accumulated via applying sources from library, books,
journals, online sites and so on.
The associated risk in the execution of the study is based on accumulation of primary
research. Therefore, researcher is mainly facing the issue of gathering information from the
participants as to resolving the issue investigator needs to provide consent to their
participants for receiving the approval of their consent. In addition to this, another issue
associated with the study is based on authenticity of the information, however, the
investigator needs to gather information from the valid and reliable sources in gathering
valuable information and reaching at the significant results.
Week 4: Assessing Credibility
As per the evaluation of the study, I have been analysing that, secondary and primary
both are the specific tool to gather relevant information in this analysis. As due to the
restriction of COVID 19, primary investigation carried out via the support of distributing the
questionnaire via internet sites like social media channels, email and so on. on the other hand,
secondary data is mainly accumulating via selecting the suitable online books, articles,

journals that are effectively be based on the aspect of employee motivation. The sources are
very much credible as books, articles and journals are effective in developing suitable
comprehension about the chosen study area. I will replace questionnaire with the interview
process as it might take a lot time but helps in rendering significant and specific data which is
mainly accumulating via conducting a personal interview round.
Week 5: Analysing & Interpreting Data (1)
As per mentioned method in last week, researcher use two type of data collection
method for acquiring reliable and authentic information on the basis of selected research
topic. Both primary and secondary methods are effective for collecting information. In
addition to this, primary method is one of the effective methods that can be used by
investigator to collect authentic and measurable information. As it includes various aspect of
primary including questionnaire, survey, interview and many more (Sebastian and et. Al.,
2019). For collecting primary data, investigator prepare a structured questionnaire that consist
various close- ended questions which asked from selected respondents in order to understand
their view points towards research aim and objectives. In order to interpreted data,
investigator prepare a frequency table that includes response of selected participants. This
type of data is analysed through MS-excel by drawing bar chart along with all the respond of
participants. With the assistance of this, researcher can easily draw a valid conclusion at the
end of the study and also make it more reliable and authentic as well.
Week 6: Analysing & Interpreting Data (2)
It is crucial for researcher to analysis and interpreted collected data effectively as it
provides clear and authentic results at the end of the study. Basically, the practice of
systematically applying statistical and/or logical approaches to describe and demonstrate,
summarize and recapitulate, and assess data is known as data analysis. It can be classified
into two methods including qualitative and quantitative as these are play a crucial role in
collecting as well as acquiring authentic information. In order to undertake current
investigation, researcher will use primary method which is effective in analysing or obtaining
data. As per this method, quantitative method is an important tool that help investigator to
acquire measurable data towards selected research topic and area as well. With the help of
this, reliable and valid conclusion can be easily attained and at the same time also develop an
authentic study.

Week 7: Using Data for Decision-Making
Over the period of time, “big data” has come up as something through which information can
be used for measuring reports (Sanjayanti, Rustaman and Hidayat, 2020). Data available on
fingertips has embraced company with the power of business intelligence. For example;
based on the collected data, the company can measure its KPIs, use the same for developing
strategies so that most benefits can be provided to the organisation. Coming onto the
importance of data in marketing decision making, gone are the days when people use to
believe in their gut feeling for making any kind of decision, and then wait for the best to be
happen. Marketing has evolved throughout the years, moreover, consistency and continual
growth has demonstrated the importance of data in marketing decision making. For
example; Sainsbury, after analysing their growth in the market with the help of the
information available, the company can use effective measures for motivating employees so
as to improve the productivity. For instance; providing valuable employees with monetary or
some other kinds of benefits so as to keep them associated with the company.
Furthermore, monitoring and measuring performance of employees using data helps
the company in identifying potential issues on very early stage, and significantly it allows the
company in making adjustments according to the desired results. For example; use of
graphic rating scale with the help of sequential numbers like 1 to 5, or 1 to 10, depending
upon the performance of specific area. for instance; scaling the rate for how often an
employee participate in decision-making. Afterwards, based on the frequency of
involvement, the company can rate them between 1 to 5. Thus, this is how a company can use
data to measure the human performance.
The two contrasting techniques which can be used for measuring the quality of the
data are: first; ‘the ratio of data to errors’, this technique allow the company in tracking the
numbers of know errors on the basis of data missing, incomplete or data that are redundant
entries. However, if the errors while collecting data decreases then it can be considered that
the quality of the data is improving. Second; ‘data transformation error rate’, in this process,
the stored information or data in one format is converted in a different format. Here, in this
process if the transformation of errors is less than the quality of the data collected is
appropriate.

Week 8: Information Security Systems
With the evolvement of new technologies, keeping data safe and private has become a major
concern for the companies, because cyber breach can create a lot of problem for the
companies as information about the valuable assets, records of employees, history of
transactions, schemes, and other information related to strategies can be misused by cyber
thieves (Huddleston and et. Al., 2020). One of the ways through which data was being
compromised previously was ‘unsecured internet connection’. This is a type of connection
provides an internet connection without a password. This means anybody, virtually, can
breach the information, and can hack he credential information.
Further proceeding in this part of information, three new concepts or processes I will
use from today are; first: securing device and network; in this with the help of encryption
process I will secure my data because it protects data through algorithms therefore, reading
the specific information without the use of (encrypted key) is not possible. Second, keep a
track of digital footprint; monitoring the accounts on regular basis so that any suspicious
activity can be traced right on time because, nowadays, there are many accounts, where an
individual stored information such as credit card numbers in order to make payments easier.
Therefore, keeping a track of all these accounts, and ensuring to delete accounts that are not
in use can help in securing the data and information. Thirdly, using a two-factor
authentication method; if an individual wants to keep the information safe, then it is
important that the person is having a strong password. Two-factor authentication method help
in providing a two-layer protection due to which guessing the right or accurate password
becomes difficult for the hacker.
In accordance to my research project, this knowledge about information security will
help me out in keeping my information safe and secure. For example, the information about
the respondents, and the responses they gave me for my research questions. Thus, it will
minimise the threat to their life because there can be a possibility that breaching of data can
make an individual offensive, and further he/she can react to it in a negative manner.
Week 9: Presenting Your Research
While undertaking research, it is vital for researcher to present entire research work
effectively because it directly shows an authentic outcome. The main concern of investigator
is to keep all the collected data confidential because it may assist in improving the
possibilities of collecting reliable data. In this context, investigator is also responsible for
Document Page
plan carefully, do research properly, know your audience, give a brief overview of research
and many more (Elsayed and Mohamed, 2019). This can be contributing in presenting overall
research more effective that provide a clear conclusion and results as well.
TASK 2 Reflective Statement
I am happy and glad to get an opportunity to execute an analysis over the aspect of
investigating the role of employee motivation in improving business productivity, therefore,
it is a wide area of research which is significant for me in enhancing my skills and ability in
relation to the chosen study area and also create value for me in developing my personal as
well as professional skills. However, the proposed investigation is imperative in enhancing
my skills and knowledge in relation to the implementation of research methodology, thus I
have been recognising that, both the primary and secondary tools are effective in execution of
an indepth study to generate significant outcome. The execution of the study is also creating
value for me in developing my data collection ability which would be effectively present in
my professional development and also helps me in executing my future projects in more
liable and effective manner. in addition to this, the study, is also effective for me in
enhancing my time management skills as I got to know the effective assessment of the
investigation activities and how the suitable assessment will helps in completion of the work
in right manner. As per the analysis of the study, I have been analysing the significance of
time scale in the execution of the project. All over, my entire experience of executing the
study is effective as my personal ability are increasing and I have gained knowledge
regarding the aspect of employee motivation, therefore, the conception of the study, will aid
value for me in gaining effective academic record and also attaining suitable and attractive
marks. Furthermore, my professional abilities are also increasing in the manner of developing
knowledge regarding accumulation of information, authenticity of data, time management
and so on, that are widely effective in execution of the analysis in right manner. The
enhancing professional and personal ability will create value for me in assessment of future
projects based on the similar area or other aspects in effective and efficient manner.
Although, the study is also effective for me in developing my knowledge regarding
the tools of data analysis and interpreting the information in effective manner to reaching at
suitable outcome. In this study, questionnaire is being implementing by the researcher as it is
supportive in gathering information from the wider area and also termed as the significant
source to accumulate relevant information. The study is also effective for me in enhancing
Document Page
my knowledge in relation to the use of data for decision making as the study initiates about
the significance of information in marketing decision making. Use of information to monitor
and measure performance. Furthermore, the study is also creating value for me in the manner
of gathering information from the most reliable source as if now I am having significant idea
about managing the authenticity of the information which are suitable in providing actual and
relevant data to provide suitable results. Hence, the study is also creating significance for me
in the manner to providing idea about the reason behind execution of an analysis and I have
attained a lot idea regarding the assessment of investigation in systematic manner to generate
suitable results. I can use my ability and enhanced skills in the execution of detailed analysis
and also the study is effective in attaining effective academic record or I will be more
efficient to conduct another analysis in effective manner.
