Introduction
Travelling is today more a necessity than a luxury. It helps one escape from the busy and mundane
city life and spends time close to nature and explores new places. Every one of us possess an internal
eagerness and curiosity to explore, to be far, to let go and to explore and connect with people who are
not known to us. Disappearing deep in the heart of the mystic mountains, breathe fresh air or walk bare
feet on soft sands of the picturesque beaches of the world are some of the motivations behind my desire
for travelling to India. Travelling is for me a joy and happiness I would love to share with my best
friend.
Background
My friend has never been to India. And I must say that this is my very first time as well. However,
my parents are from India and I have grown up hearing stories and watching photographs and videos of
India with them. I have a deep longing to see my motherland and explore it with my friend. My friend is
a skeptic and hence I listed down some ideas which will surely persuade her to walk with me in my
journey to India. I have asked her previously and she has refused. She has refused as she is scared to go
to new places.
I am soon turning 20 and wanted to spend some months in India to learn about the place.
However, my friend felt that I can be kidnapped and is literally freaking out. Well for me this is a
narrow way of looking into a situation, ignorant as well as offensive comment about people in India (K.
C & Leelavathi, 2016). This is because I am aware that bad things happen in every part of the world and
still people must travel. As a woman we do will be taking our precautions but not travelling out of the
fear is absolutely trash.
India is blessed in terms of nature. Millions of people visit India annually from all over the globe.
Historically, the country is a real gem. Archeological sites, rock-based sculptures, monuments etc are
widely present in India. I and my friend both are history students and this gives us additional reason to
explore the historical significance of India (Arunmozhi & Panneerselvam, 2013).

Convincing my friend to travel to India with me
I have spent months to do my own planning. Right from joining varied travel groups in online
forums, social media and WhatsApp to get a clear picture about the places I finalize, the right months
and also chalking out an itinerary and budget. Everything is planned out except that my friend is still too
hesitant to book her tickets with mine (Globetrotter, 2019). Now, for others this might be a very small
thing. But, for me I really want her to come see my country with me. So now it is my task top convert
her “no” or “maybe” to a strong “yes” with the following plan.
1) Pictures to lure:
I now can understand why it is believed that a picture speak more prominently than even a
thousand words. So, I would love to choose some selected pictures of the places I plan to visit and show
them to my friend. Slowly I will also send her important links about the places which are loaded with
colorful and vibrant photos. Mailing such pictures and exchanging them through messaging apps will
keep the interest continued (Kumar & Gupta, 2018). At the same time, I will post varied inspirational
quotations loaded with beautiful travel pictures and how it impacts human life. I believe all these will
appeal to her sense of freedom, adventure and will enhance her level of interest and desire to a much
higher level than what it is at present. I will show her the rich culture, religious events, places, people
and activities in India through right photographs to convince her come to India with me.
2) Do my research effectively:
Most of the time people do not affirm to an idea or a proposal as they do not have enough
knowledge about it. Lay down a plan in complete details and soon you can see that they are convinced
and confident. So, I will do my research well so that I can have the plan of our travel to India clear in
our heads. There is no doubt that India is vast. There are incredible cities as well as rural, historic and
natural places which are to be discovered. It is crucial for me to effectively make my travel research and
for this I will take help of an expert (Guillebeau, 2019).
3) Inspirational Films can be watched:
Since I myself have got my inspirations about traveling to India through photographs, videos
and lots of movies and documentaries I will use the same technique for my friend as well. Why to
waste words when a movie can be watched together. And the movie can be anything which is closely

related to travel. Some of my personal favorites are Into the Wild, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
etc. Moreover, there are movies made in India such as Holiday, Zindegi Na Milegi Doobara etc
which also stressed to the fact that traveling is the best thing it satisfy a soul (Dhar, Dash & Roy,
2018).
A special movie night will probably be a great way to charge up the spirit of travelling in me and
my friend. For this I will surely choose a movie which showcases an epic adventure. To put more effect
I will choose a destination motivated movie for this movie night. It can do magic to convince my friend
for our India trip in future.
4) Explore the sweet spot:
I would love to observe and understand the sweet spot inside my friend which means whether
she is more attached to mountains, beeches or loves urban light or night life. Understanding what she
wants I can then plan the destinations in and around her interests.
5) Share my story:
As a friend we all love doing things for one another. This keeps friends close and shares their
interests as well. So, I will start by telling my friend my personal story or purpose and desire to fulfill
my dream to see my birth place. And in participating in the travel what great support I will get from
my friend which will make my travel even more memorable and everlasting joy (Gupta, Bhatnagar &
Jalal, 2018).
6) Never rush and be patient:
One of the smart things to do when someone is hesitant about something is to be patient and
wait for their response and respect that. So, I will wait and not rush to convince her or overwhelm her
as she can misunderstand that I am biased.
7) Help realize the importance of the travel:
People cannot always see what is good in a certain step. As her pal I will show her what she
will be missing if she does not come with me to India on this vacation (Ward, 2019). We have been
studying all our lives. She is unaware the impact a break and an exploration will leave to our future

life. I will show her how to walk, explore, eat, sleep and thrive in the incredible country like India on
our own.
8) Speak at the right time:
Timing is a crucial factor I will use for getting her approval for her presence in the trip. I will be
staying alert and use any opportunity I get to finalize it. Sometime we are in the best of our moods or
time when there is no pressure of school, festive times or times when we have achieved something. I am
that my friend has been learning baking cakes and so she is going to bake her first cake for a consumer
(Stancati, 2019). I will wait for the tie when she gets the first paycheck and persuade her how she can
use it in something productive.
9) No point in lying:
I will always be honest in making my efforts to help my friend see what she will miss if she
does not make the decision to travel to India with me. However, to convince her I will not use any
lie. This is because I will never lose her trust. She is my best pal and she is important for me. I want
her to have fun when she visits India with me and never to get disheartened by any false promises or
hopes. I will be clarifying her positives as well as the negatives (Baines, 2019). For example, I cannot
deny the fact that India has a large population, has long summer months; majority of places will not
be as clean as our home in the US. At the same time I will propose her planned recommendations
about how we can bypass all these and only enjoy and participate in the positives.
10) A great value:
There is no doubt that one of the cheapest backpacker’s destination in the world is India. A
large number if people from all over the world visits India as it is cheap and also equally attractive
and appealing. It has something in store for everyone in India (Kate, 2019). I would love to show my
friend what a great value for money this trip to India wills me. Within a simple budget we can choose
home stays, guest houses or genuine good hotels which have almost all the basic amenities one
needs. Clean, modern and welcoming backpackers’ hostels are also out there which we might
explore.
11) Stop my usual activities:

Since my planning to travel to India is next year, I will be saving up money by stopping some of
my activities which are not so important. So, I will surely avoid a lot of shopping and eat outs and start
building my financial base for the upcoming travel (Burvil, 2019). This will be also a technique I will
use to show the seriousness in me to my friend. This will help her understand how important t it is for
me to give a gap to the usual fun activities I love doing and plan for the travel.
12) Engage hypothetical talks about the travel:
At times we know that a plan will be amazing but it is difficult to convince another person. In
such cases often it is found that the person lacks the ability to visualize the joy and happiness
involved. So, I will start making hypothetical conversation with my friend about India and its
beauty (Derek, 2019). I will be planning each and everything hypothetically first so that the friend
can become enthusiastic about the potential travel.
13) Cooking something which will convince:
No one can travel to India and ignore the wonderful delicacies, cuisines and street food of the
country. In fact there are many culinary travels as well which are being conducted every day for the food
lovers. My friend is a great cook and equally loves cooking and trying out good food. So what I will do
is cooking something really delicious for her (Planet, 2019). I would love to introduce her to Indian
dishes and menus which will help me convince her. My friend will definitely love to cuisine in India and
might even change her decision. There is no doubt that food is crazily p as well as high quality in India.
Pushing the right buttons here is significant so that my friend agrees traveling with me. Moreover,
it is something that will equally benefit her. She will miss out an experience of the entire life if she does
not come along. Moreover, the entire traveling time will also be great opportunities for us to spend more
time with one another and also experience the varied delights traveling gives u. Slowly, I am confident
to reduce her resistance and convert it to a big “yes”.
Travelling to a country like India will give us amazing opportunities to interact with locals and get
an insight about a cultural landscape. I believe that using the above few techniques I can help my friend
see what I can see (Horton, 2019). Wander lusting, activities encouraging our adrenalin rush, exploring
places, tasting local food and meeting new people are all a part of the bucket list which I hope my friend
will enjoy in the India trip being planned.
