by the organisation. Interview skills require confidence and enthusiastic person who can handle
challenges of the company and perform job role appropriately. An interview will make or break
job search of an individual. A person must perform well in an interview and he should have good
knowledge and experience to get selected in an organisation. There are following guidelines that
will give opportunity to make an interview successful. They are described below-
Before the interview- Pre-interview preparations will help an individual to perform
effectively in an interview. This is a chance for candidate to explore roles and responsibilities
given in CV or covering letter. Preparation tailor the experience and expertise to meet the
requirements of the organisation.
Know your audience- The interviewee should undergo relevant research for improving
chances to get selected in the interview. There are various ways by which an individual can
research for a company like websites, annual report, in-house magazines or newsletters. If the
candidate is familiar about company it will provide ammunition which reflects willingness and
commitment to work.
Know your industry- Researching about the company is a good way to impress an
interviewer. The candidate can know about the role in the organisation, work environment of the
company and key drivers for their business. Trade publications provides specific information
and issues of the organisation. It is important for an interviewer to prepare questions which can
be asked in the interview.
Know yourself- Recruiters hire a person on the basis of knowledge and skills. CV
reflects achievements and experience of a person. But a personal interview is more important to

know more about that individual. The interviewee must prepare questions like what are your
strengths and weakness, what is goal of your life, your biggest fear,etc.
Know how to impress- If a person prepares insightful and relevant questions to be

During the interview- The interviewee must be enthusiastic, alert and have a positive
mindset throughout the interview. A positive person is fearless and has a good approach towards
challenges of the organisation. Interview should reflect the technical, personal and knowledge
skills of the individual. If a person has positive attitude, flexibility, interpersonal skills,
confidence, self motivation and leadership then he will impress employers easily.
Following the interview- This is an important way to make company know about your
keen interest towards getting selected. The interviewee must follow up by sending a letter or
email for reinforcing his commitment. This feedback email or letter shows passion for job role,
determination for success and addressing any issues or queries related to the interview process.
Other skills- There are some other skills which an interviewer should has like good non-
verbal communication, Dressing well for the company, use appropriate language while
interacting, take care while giving answers.
