The second week’s lectures presented the disparity that exists between professionals and
other workers. An attribute that distinguished professionals from other workers is that
professionals possess advanced training and experience. Concerning professionals, there is the
aspect of certification which helps in identifying one as a being possessing the said skills,
knowledge and abilities. A crucial part of the lectures that majorly stood out for me is the effect
of codes of ethics, and professional certification has on the ethical behavior of IT professionals.
My position on the issue of ethics is that ethics are a dominant part of the exchanges that people
have on a daily basis and so bear great weight when it comes to handling human resource.
From my learning exposure, it became evident to me the various ethical issues that exist
between IT workers and the employers. Topics such as whistle-blowing, sharing of trade secrets
and breach of contract among others are issues that are faced by many other organizations that
are not entirely related to the IT sector. That fact has undoubtedly helped me understand that the
IT world is not an altogether different limb of society but has common issues that other
businesses in various arenas face. I also noted that software piracy, on the other hand, seems
something that is unique to IT related sectors. Consequently, bribery came out clear to me like a
vice that is intended solely for personal benefit. What I could not merely understand is how one
would go to the extent of offering incentives for them to be given more preference in specific
areas if at all they are well qualified.
Another thing that I have taken note of which happens in many organizations around is
that a clearly outlined code of ethics defines the aspirations of an organization as well as the

rules by which the employees are to follow. The impact codes of ethics have on organizations
prompted me to think of how an established organization gets to shape their corporate image
through well-drafted codes of ethics. The lectures have introduced to my knowledge of the
professional organization, and ethical behavior will significantly help me in forming networks
with people as I continually build on my expertise and sharpen my skills. As a prospective
professional in the IT sector, the knowledge that I have amassed will be critical in the
formulating of policies that support ethical practices which will help protect against abuses. A
clear outline on the ethical issues that are affecting professionals in the IT sector will
significantly help me to attain an understanding on the boundaries not to cross as I also help
direct those who I am going to be working with hand in hand. As a future IT professional the
knowledge obtained will dearly help, especially when it comes to managerial positions where
every decision I will get to make will have a direct impact on the service to the workers.
Knowledge of the right tempers when handling personnel will give me a significant boost as a
professional.
