1.1 Analyse the growth and development of the heritage and cultural industry

Heritage and cultural tourism is one of the fastest growing tourism in the world. The term

“heritage” can be defined as valued objects such as historic buildings and rich cultural traditions

which have been passed down from previous generation. There are four main aspects to

understand the significances of heritage. Those are historical significance, social significance,

Aesthetic significance and scientific significance. It reflects the scope and possibilities of

historical findings, social values, importance of design seen on a place and scientific innovations.

In order to understand the growth and development of heritage and cultural industry, it is

important to analyse the factors of heritage and cultural tourism. Those factors are attractions,

natural tourism, constructed tourism and cultural heritage.

Attractions:

Heritage and cultural sites are representing four different aspects such as historical aspect, social

aspect, aesthetic aspect and scientific aspects. Different kinds of tourist attractions sites in UK

such as Albert museum, British Museum are defining the heritage and cultural significances.

Tourists across the globe are visiting these places to witness the rich cultural histories of British

Empire (

in heritage and cultural tourism sector. That helps in the growth and development of this

industry.

Natural tourism:

Natural beauties are another aspect heritage and cultural tourism sector which involves

landscape, coastlines, woodlands, forests and habitats. The Greenwich Park is one example of

heritage and cultural site with natural beauty (

1.2 Discuss potential conflicts in the conservation of heritage and cultural resources using
the case study of Lhasa, Tibet

Tibet is regarded as a home of religious

temples. Lhasa as a capital of Tibet is

unique for their hospitality management

technique and intangible culture. The

development of heritage and cultural sites

are one of the major characteristic for the

Government of Tibet (
Smith, 2015). The
government body is focusing to explore the

opportunities of travel and tourism sector

and provide protection to the heritage sights

and cultural resources.

There are various issues regarding the

development of Heritage and cultural

tourism in Lhasa (
Richards, 2016). The
heritage and cultural attraction in Lhasa

requires high maintenance cost therefore, it

is difficult for the Government to invest in

this sector. Apart from that, environmental

issues are another major issue in this

context. Flora and Fauna affect tourist

Destinations negatively and creates a

negative influence on the acuity of

travellers.

The economic system of Tibet is not as

positive as other countries (
Du and
McKercher, 2014)
. Therefore, it becomes
hard for the government to invest in the

heritage and cultural tourism industry.

Skilful employees are required for the

process of maintenance but Government is

unable to pay their salaries and demanding

incentives.

By analysing the potentials of Tibet,

Chinese Government is developing some

large scale projects. They renovate

traditional Barkhor old town district and

outskirt areas of Lhasa. London based

7

company Free Tibet is campaigning to
boycott the development.

From the above statement it can be analysed

that, conservation of heritage and cultural

resources is a major factor in Tibet.

Therefore it is essential for the government

bodies to adopt the collective way for the

protection of these heritage sites which

include monasteries, treks and intangible

culture.

Heritage and cultural tourism is mainly working in the conservation of various heritage places

and cultural values. Different heritage places across the UK such British museum, Albert

museum are attracting tourists across the world to explore the historical significances and

cultural values (British Museum, 2018). In this task, the purpose of these attractions in meeting

the needs of different tourists will be discussed.

2.1 Assess the purpose of heritage and cultural attractions in meeting the needs of different

customers

There are some responsibilities if the government to adopt an effective plan for the development

of British Museum and Albert Museum and explore the needs of customers in this process

(Vam.ac.uk, 2018). After my visit of British Museum and Albert Museum, I have explores some

important aspects o f heritage and cultural attraction and also explored the fact that how these

tourist attractions are meeting the needs of customers from different region.

British Museum and Albert Museum are a place of collective ancient and historical sculptures.

The heritage and cultural aspects are also explored in these places. Students from different

countries are visiting these places as their educational tours (British Museum, 2018). During my

tour to these destinations, I explored the fact that students are able to discover some unique

opportunities and they can also discover in hand learning method in this process.

Research:

Apart from educational purposes, these places are also effective for research scholars and

scientists. There are various research projects such as Maya research project, research project on

for research scholars to discover the ancient British culture. Apart from ancient ceramics, there is
embroidery, cast collections, knitting and sculptures, those are also effective for the research

purpose.

Recreation:

Recreation is based on time; therefore visitors are attracted towards these heritage places to

discover more recreation within a short time period. As per my opinion, public places such as

British Museum and Albert museum are best options for various recreational features (British

Museum, 2018). People of all age groups are involving themselves in different kinds of

activities. Recreational activities are involved pleasure, enjoyment and exploration of knowledge

at the same time. Therefore, for the purpose of recreation, these places are major places to be

considered.

place of great source of entertainment. During my visit in British Museum and Albert museum, I

was witnessed some of the major events of UK. They are responsible to organise a weekly

exhibition on money and medals of different countries and some prints of war and peace

(Vam.ac.uk, 2018). Apart from that, there is a weekly drama program which is based on

Shakespearean novels. These dramas are also exploring the cultures of 17
