1.2 Discuss potential conflicts in the conservation of heritage and cultural resources using
the case study of Lhasa, Tibet
Tibet is regarded as a home of religious
temples. Lhasa as a capital of Tibet is
unique for their hospitality management
technique and intangible culture. The
development of heritage and cultural sites
are one of the major characteristic for the
Government of Tibet (Smith, 2015). The
government body is focusing to explore the
opportunities of travel and tourism sector
and provide protection to the heritage sights
and cultural resources.
There are various issues regarding the
development of Heritage and cultural
tourism in Lhasa (Richards, 2016). The
heritage and cultural attraction in Lhasa
requires high maintenance cost therefore, it
is difficult for the Government to invest in
this sector. Apart from that, environmental
issues are another major issue in this
context. Flora and Fauna affect tourist
Destinations negatively and creates a
negative influence on the acuity of
travellers.
The economic system of Tibet is not as
positive as other countries (Du and
McKercher, 2014). Therefore, it becomes
hard for the government to invest in the
heritage and cultural tourism industry.
Skilful employees are required for the
process of maintenance but Government is
unable to pay their salaries and demanding
incentives.
