The topic of skills required to communicate effectively with other professions has helped me to gain rich knowledge about skills and values needed to communicate with inter-
professional team. By researching on topic to identify communication skills of nursing staff and by the attending class lectures related to communication skills, I am clear about
values needed in team work. I now realize that apart from effective communication skill set, value also has a place in inter-professional practice to build mutual respect and
develop trust. This can eventually aid in the way to open communication with staffs too.
I am glad to state that after completing the Part A topic, I have improved three vitals skills related to communication. Firstly, I have improved my written communication skills
as after getting feedback, I realized the importance of supporting fact with research evidence. It has enabled me to write in a professional and academic manner. In future,
clear writing skills will help me to engage in effective handover and consultation process with the medical team.
The ability to engage in clear communication is also a skill that I have acquired. I can now give clear and précised message that any layperson can understand without
reviewing the past context. This is necessary save time during inter-professional collaboration too. I have also developed active listening skill as earlier I was very attentive,
however after attending lecture on team work and inter-professional collaboration, I learnt about the benefits of active listening skills. Active listening skills can minimize
chances of error or misunderstanding during the communication process.
