INTRODUCTION
Iceland company is a private retail company. It deals in the food items like vegetables
and the meals. It is the supermarket and it deals in the food and the grocery items like dairy,
meat. In this company there are many employees working. Basically the company operating in
selling of food and the grocery items. In this company there is a need of recruit the new staff
members and to develop them for the achievement of the goals and the objectives from it the
performance level is increased and the organisational productivity also increases (Balle, 2017).
And working in the team make the effectiveness in the operational activities and it helps in
enriches the teamwork. To recruiting the new staff for this company and it helps in the
production efficiency. In the recruitment, receive the applications of the candidates and after
seeing their CV the recruiter select the those CV which are suitable for the post. And then it is
the suction of the human resource management. The human resource manager of this company
recruit the candidates. After selecting the applications the selection process start. The selection is
also the function of the human resource management. In the selection the human resource
manager of this company take the interviews of the candidates and selected them according to
their skills, abilities and their knowledge. After the selection, there is the job analysis, it means
that it is a process to evaluate and to identify the job responsibilities and the duties and also the
job importance of the duty which is given to the person. And in the job analysis includes the job
specification and the job description. In the job description, there is a list of the person in which
includes the job duties of the person, tasks of a person, job title, job location. In the job
specification includes the skills, qualification, responsibilities, training, experience, etc. of the
person. After that there is the job enrichment, it means to redesigning of the job, so from it the
repetative work is less and the job is more challenging for the employees. This company adopts
some policies and the acts which are related related to discrimination. These are equal pay act,
sex discrimination act, equal employment act. These all acts are helps in reduction the
discrimination (Bhasin, 2016). In this company there are many leaders. The leaders guides and
leads its team members of the company. There are different types of the leaders and every leader
has different style such as democratic leaders, autocratic leaders, transactional leaders,

participative leaders. The role of the managers and the leaders are different in the company.
Their skills are different from each other. In this company the leaders motivate the employees
and from it the performance level of the employees increase and the employees satisfied from
their job. And from it the productivity of the organisation enhances. The teamwork is important
in the company. The employees and the leaders works in the team and if different tasks is
provided to the team members in this case the team members contributing with each other. If the
team if there is any problem arise or the conflict arise then in this case the team members have to
resolve the problem by the mutual consent or by communicating with each other. The conflict is
harmful for the company and it reduces the productivity of the company. Assessment of work
performance of the employees is important in this company. To develop the needs of the
employees it is necessary that the assessment process should follow properly. This company uses
some motivational ways to motivate the employees these ways can be: by giving them bonuses,
incentives, by the appreciation, increment in the salary (Sullivan, 2013). From all this the
employee gets motivated and it helps in enhances the productivity of the company.

In the Iceland company if there is a need of recruitment and selection arise the in this
case there are some documentation required. The recruitment and the selection both are the
important function of the human resource management. In the recruitment if we recruit the new
staff then a written statement is prepared and in the written document the job specification and
the job description are mentioned. In the job description mentioned the responsibilities, tasks.
And in the job specification the qualification, characteristics, skills and the knowledge of the
person included. In the selection process, the interviewer sees the CV of the candidate and after
that the online test is taken of the candidate this tests can be the aptitude test, IQ test, and it can
be the online knowledge (Stubbs and et.al., 2014). From these testes the interviewer or the
human resource manager know the knowledge, skills, IQ level, abilities of the candidate. After
all this the interviewer checks the personal statements by questioning from the candidate. This all
documentation is prepared for the recruitment and the selection of the new staffs.

In this company, sometimes there is some discrimination happen at the time of the
recruitment and the selection process. At the time of recruitment and the selection the human
resource manager of this company rejects some applications of female. The company
Gethsemane wants only female and if the company recruit any female employee then in this case
the HR manager pays them less salary, incentives and the wages as compared to the male
employees. It is under the sex discrimination. For the improvements in these areas this company
adopts some acts which are related to the discrimination and these acts are help in to remove the
discrimination. These acts include equal pay act in this act pages the equal salary, wages,
incentives, facilities to the employees which are at the same post (Ogden, 2014). The other one is
the sex discrimination act, this act is for to remove the discrimination related to the gender. Gives
equal opportunity to the female. There should be no discrimination regarding the gender. Act
regarding the disability discrimination this act is for that any person is disable in the company
then treat that employee equally with the other employees. In the European Union employment
legislation, the European Union protects the workers right. In the rights includes these areas:
position of the workers, fixed term work and part time, safety and protection of the workers and
the pregnant women, discrimination and the equal pay. The European Union helps for reduction
in these areas. There are some laws which can impact on recruitment and selection process:
Employment protection act 1978- Under this act, there is a contract related to
employment and obsessed party name, terms and conditions of pay scale, fate of joining, leave
etc. The manager should also be check and inquire that a candidate has some right to work or not
in United Kingdom.
Sex discrimination act- Under this act, it is the dusty and responsibility of manager is to

the human resource department and after that the human source department calls the shortlisted
candidates for the in interview (Offstein, Morwick and Koskinen, 2010). At the time of interview
the panels asked questions related to the the candidates qualification, their
background,knowledge etc.After that those candidates who are able to satisfied the panel, the
panel select them and give them appointment letter.
Interview- In the interview, there is the conversation between the interviewee and the
interviewer. There is the one to one interaction or the conversation. In this the interviewer asks
the questions from the interviewee and if the interviewee gives the satisfactoriness answer than

Select hiring and selection panel- In this, my responsibility is to choose a panel for
recruitment and selection to hiring a candidate. In panel, there will be 4 people who are

Short listing- After receiving all application, it is a duty of panel is to shortlist some
applicants which can capable for job from using various methods such as aptitude test, written
exam etc. I also helps in short-listing of people.
Interviews- After short-listing applicants, it is a time to take interview of selected
candidate and panel asked some questions related to them, their qualification, interests,
background etc.
Appointment- In this last stage, hiring and selection panel select some candidates from
which they are satisfied and give them appointment letter.
It is my responsibility to prepare all documents related to joining, job description etc.

managers and the leaders are the communication skills. They both are to be good in the
communication. Critical skills are to be in managers and the leaders. They have to good in the
decision making, solving problems in the logical and in clear manner, avoid the biassness and
able to take right decisions. They should have the team building skills. The managers and the
leaders both work on the team building. They motivate the employees to work in a team without
any conflict (Mumford and et.al., 2012). If there is any kind of problem in the team then they tell
to the manager and the leaders and after then the manager and the leader try to solve out the
problem of the team. The managers and the leaders should have the managing and the leading
skills. In the organisation, there are the different leaders and each leaders have the different
theory. The theories are:
Trait theory- This theory believes that the leaders are made or born with the some
qualities. The qualities like the knowledge, intelligence, creativity. This theory mainly focus on
the physical, mental and the social characteristics.
Behavioural theories- Basically this theory is focus on the leaders behaviour. And this
theory is divided in to the two parts. In the first part include those people who are concerned with
the responsibilities and the tasks and second are those who are concerning about the people.
Contingency theories- In this theory, argues that the leadership style is totally based on
the situations and no single path of the leading.

2.2 Difference between the management and the leadership
In this company there are both managers and the leaders, but the role of both is different.
The managers role is to manage the people and the role of leader is that to engage the people.
The main work of the managers is to implement the plans and the strategies which are made by
the top management. The managers have to organizes and to manage the staff. The managers set
the structure and helps in to achieve the plan and then execute the plan. The managers manage
the and guides the staff and creates the system through which monitor the execution. The
managers have the total control on the management and the employees. And helps in problem
solving. And the main role of the leaders is that to give the direction to the employees and the
team members. The leader helps in the creating the vision for the future prospective. The leaders
of this company inspires and motivates the employees of this company and helps in remove the
barriers. And they helps in the satisfying the basic human requirements.

company, the decisions are taken by the individual. The top management does not involve the
employees, and the members in the decision making process. In this case the leader is the

democratic leaders. They are just different to the autocratic leaders. This types of leadership is
the participating leadership.

theories. These two theories are :
McGregor theory X and theory Y- It is the motivational theory. In the X theory, the
people are dislike the work, they feel unmotivated and the these types of people needs
supervision, they avoid the responsibilities (Basadur, 2016). But the theory Y people are active,
responsible, self motivated, enjoying their work.
eg- In the organisation, if there is the person who is lazy and do not take any interest in the work
then this person are in the category of theory X. and on the other hand is the person work with
the interest, complete tasks on time then he is in the category of theory Y.
Two factor theory- In the two factor theory, there are factors included in the work place
that causes the dissatisfaction and the satisfaction.
e.g.- a person work in the company and he finds the dissatisfaction on the work place and
not satisfied from the company environment. Then there is the two factor theory.
These two motivational theories helps to motivate the employees in the company.

The Maslow and Two factor theory helps in motivating employees in an effective way. In
two factor theory includes satisfaction and dissatisfaction causes at workplace in company and in
Maslow theory of motivation their are five stages are included and that are basic needs, safety,
belongingness, self esteem and self actualisation etc. In Iceland company, leaser use autocratic
and democratic leadership style.

3.1 Assess the benefits of the teamwork
In the Iceland company, the people work in a teams. From working in the teams the
people complete the task and complete the work in the efficient and in the effective manner. And
from it the productivity of the company increases. It is beneficial for the company's growth. If
there is a task given to the team members then in this case the team members will distribute the
work and contribute their skills to complete the work in an efficient and in proper manner. From
the team work the company will get success and the growth of the company enhances (Kingman,
2014). The team members also share the responsibilities. From it the pressure and the workload
reduces. The team members will give the different- different ideas related to the tasks. To work
in a team it helps in maintain the good and harmonious relationship and the team members will
open with each other. Fro this the work efficiency of the team members increases and they will
satisfied from their job. And it also helps in achieving the organisational goals. When the
employees of the Iceland company work together, from it the better bond is made with the other
employees. The members of the team work together then they all know the values, of each other
in a group. The synergy means that when the two people work together and from it the work is
complete on time and complete in the clear and the effective manner.
