1IMPORTANCE OF PROVIDING SERVICE
The act of providing service to people is something that every individual must
practice in their life. Using personal skill set to enable and empower another individual to
achieve something is a satisfactory feeling and people should involve themselves in this
practice (Kottler, 2013). Providing service allows in enriching a group of people with
assistance and knowledge that can be used by them in the future to pursue their own interests.
It is not only about empowering an individual, service provided can also benefit a group or
even an organization. Service can be both paid and non-paid in nature and in both the cases,
the service provided will benefit the receiver (Taylor, & Sidhu, 2012). It is an ethic of
providing service that the service provided is from expertise of the provider and without an
expertise in the domain; no one should come up and provide an incompetent service.
I would like to discuss a particular incident when I was doing voluntary services for
the “National & Community Services”. I registered myself as a voluntary member of the
organization to help further the cause of education in the local schools and colleges
(Education, 2018). During my voluntary service, I visited around 20 to 25 schools of my
locality and among them, every third or the fourth was a low performing school (Education,
2018). I and three other voluntary workers, were assigned to visit these schools and help the
students to understand the importance of education and its life-long utility. We were also
asked by the organization to help the authority create conditions, which would help the
students to excel at their studies and provide them with better educational opportunities
(Warren, 2012). We also provided some tips to the students by means of which they could
improve their academic performances and learn new things in a better manner. I was also
required to do some mentoring work for the students who were facing problems with their
academic courses.
I would like to say that the voluntary service performed by me and the three other
voluntary workers in the 20 to 25 schools which we visited had an impact on the students. I

was later informed by the members of the organization that our interactions with the students
in the schools, which we visited had a considerable influence on them (Education, 2018).
They started to take their various educational activities on a more serious note and some of
them even approached their school authorities with new plans by which their current
educational plan could be made more interesting and student friendly (Education, 2018). I
know the thing, which I did was not a very big one but I am happy to make my small
contribution towards the growth as well as the development of the youths who are just like
me and indirectly make my little contribution to the overall growth as well as the
development of our entire community. Therefore, I would like to say that community is an
important part of the present civilization and we all should do our part in our own way to
make this a better place for the inhabitants of the community.
