Introduction
Information and communication technology (ICT) is an infrastructure component that is
used by the organizations to handle the different telecommunications and management systems.
Majority of the business organization make use of ICT services that is used to handle the
telecommunications needs and business monitoring functions (Aramendia-Muneta & Ollo-
Lopez, 2013). The use of ICT has a considerable impact on the business and daily operation of a
travel agency which will be discussed in the report.
The use of ICT in business operation of travel agency
The widespread use of ICT and internet has been a game changer in the business
operations of travel agency. This is because it not only helps in managing the internal
communication among the staffs of the travel agency in an effective manner; it helps the clients
in self service booking (Bethapudi, 2013). With the emergence of ICT, the number of online
booking has increased considerably. With this service, the customers can easily boom a trip from
the convenience of their home.
Furthermore, the use and adoption of ICT services have brought in certain new benefits
in the business of a travel agency. With the use of ICT the customers’ data can be stored and
accessed more quickly. The use of enterprise level software enables the travel agencies to
specialize the programs according to their business needs thus making the process of business
management even more effective.
The use of ICT devices helps in better coordination of business activities. High speed
internet connection and ICT devices helps in establishing a better communication network with
the clients thus increasing the clients’ satisfaction. This is a cost effective solution as well in

comparison to the traditional methods of long distance telephony services. With the use of ICT
services, data can be sent almost instantaneously from the travel agency to the clients, airlines
and hotels (Berné et al., 2015). This reduces the time required for coordination of the tasks which
would have instead taken hours using the traditional methods.
Technology has been changing the role of travel agency and travel agents over the years.
The information provided by the ICT system helps the agency managers in streamlining their
business operations, which in turn improve the revenues (Ashari, Heidari & Parvaresh, 2014).
Improvement in revenues is possible since the customer service becomes easier, cost effective
and faster with the help of ICT.
Conclusion
The use of information and communication technology helps in unveiling the new
opportunities for business. Furthermore the use of ICT services helps in efficient business
promotions. With ICT and social media, the business promotions of a travel agency reach wider
audiences. Technology can improve the communication process. The use of ICT enables high
speed communication with all the agency partners thus increasing the productivity of the
organization. The use of ICT however, decreases the need of travel agents as people tend to
make their own reservations from the online website. On the other hand, the use of ICT helps in
increasing the speed of business marketing. Therefore, it can be said that use of ICT has a
positive impact on the business operation of travel agency.
