how recruitment and staffing is important for an organisations operations

1.2 Impact of Legal, regulatory and ethical considerations for the
recruitment and selection
There are several guidelines which are to be taken into consideration
while performing the selection and recruitment process by any company in
any country (CALIN, 2016). So as this happens in UK so UPS company have to
follow these legal, regulatory and ethical practices while recruitment: The Equality Act 2010: This act states that each and every person is
equal before law. So UPS should treat every individual equal without
any discrimination. This has to be followed at the time of recruitment
and selection as well (Cenderello, 2015). Equal Pay Act 1970: This act states that each and every individual
working at the same level should get equal pay according to the work
assigned. UPS has to set the pays of the employees according to the
work assigned to them and it should not be less or more. Race Relation Act 1976: This act aims at prohibiting each and every
crime or discrimination relating to the colour of a person in UK. In
context to this UPS has to follow this rule while selecting any
employee for the organisation.
Employment Protection Act 1978: This act aims at providing the
employee all the information to the person who is selected. The
details like commencement, payment, holidays, working hours,
termination policy etc. (Hoover, 2015). So UPS needs to take this act into
consideration while recruitment and selection of an employee.
1.3 Role in the selection process
In the selection process of the UPS company I have been appointed as
a interviewer. My role was to take interview of the candidates who have

On the above assessment sheet each and every candidate has to be
assessed by me while the selection process. The one who is the best was
being selected for the next process and inappropriate was rejected (Mitchell,

for the UPS company's vacancies.

1.4 Contribution to the selection process
UPS the unites parcel service have a good selection process on which
it selects a candidate for a job in the company. There are various steps in
selection process and they are: Preliminary Interview: A basic screening of the candidate is done to
access its potentiality. Application Blank: The candidates who are being selected in
preliminary interview have to fill an application blank which is a sheet
for all the details of the candidate (Mohelska, 2015). Written test: A written test of the candidate is taken to access some
several knowledge. Employment Interview: Further who got selected in the written test
have to go through a final interview which was taken by me and my
team to access the candidate on various measures. Medical Examination: If the candidate clears the employment
interview than he/she has to go through a medical test which assesses
the physical well being of the candidate.
Appointment Letter: After the candidate is assessed on the physical
capability and clears all the standards than an appointment letter
about all the details for the job is given to the candidate
My contribution was in the employment interview where I have taken
interviews of the candidates with my team and have marked them in the
assessment sheet according to that. If the candidate is appropriate for UPS
than the further process is followed if not than a message of rejection has
been sent to them. The appropriate candidate is only the one who is being
assessed further.
TASK 2
2.1 Skills and attributes needed for leadership
A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.
This requires various skills and attributes. An effort has to be made in order
Document Page
to be a leader. A leader is the one who have also learned so much itself first
(Vartiainen, 2015). In UPS company a leader has a major role because the
company is facing loss so a proper guidelines and direction is required.
Leadership means guiding people for a motivated behaviour to achieve the
goals and objectives of the company. UPS needs to initiate this by have a
leader who have the following skills: Honesty: A leader must be honest in regards to the company it is
working for and to the people who are working under it. Working in
UPS also honesty is necessary a feeling of belongingness to the
company is a must to achieve the desired goals. Communication: The leader is a medium which acts between the
company and the employees. So the communication skills of a leader
should be very appropriate which will decrease the chances of
confusion among the subordinates working under it. Commitment: A leader must have a commitment towards the
company and the subordinates which thrive to work for the company
and its objective also guiding other to follow the same (NORMAND,
2016). Positive Attitude: A company faces many problems like in UPS the
company is facing loss so a leader must have a positive attitude to
regulate the behaviour of the subordinates to work for the company so
as to change the bad into good. Creativity: The leader must be creative in accordance with making
new ideas to motivate people to do the work effectively and efficiently.
In UPS company a creative leader is required who can help the
company to cope up with the loss by regulating new ideas. Confidence: A leader must be confident about the work it is doing
and this comes out with regular practice (Thompson, 2016). A leader is
not born it is created by the situations and inconsistencies which
occurs in the company. So confidently dealing with problems will help

the leader to built a confidence amongst the people who are working
under it.
2.2 Difference between leadership and management and better
understanding of company with these factors
LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT
A leader develops. So leadership means
development of a person.
A manager maintains. So management means
managing the organisation.
Leadership aims at creating and originating
new and useful ideas to cope up consistencies
which is highly required in UPS company.
A manager follows the rules and principles
which are stated by the books and guides of the
company.
Leadership aims at doing the right thing at the
appropriate time.
Management aims at doings all the things right
in an organisation.
Leadership solves the problems related to
what's and whys in the company (Edge, 2016).
Management solves the problems related to
how and when in the company.
Leadership works on trust. A leader is being
trusted by its followers and the company.
Management aims at controlling people to
work for the achievement of goals.
Leadership focuses on people. Management focuses on the structure and
organisational goals.
Leadership and management both are very specifically essential for
UPS company. As one aims at people and the other aims at the organisation
an the goals. Both of these elements works hand in hand. Which is essential
for UPS company (Sokolova, 2015). The company requires a good leader
possessing all the quality to meet the loss and a manager who can mange
everything so that the people and work is coordinated.
2.3 Different leadership styles for different situations
There are several types of leadership styles that a leader can follow.
In UPS the style should be chosen according to situation so that there could

be better understanding and employees will be retained in the company by
this (O’Neil, 2015). The various styles of leadership are:
AUTHORITARIAN DEMOCRATIC LAISSEZ FAIRE
This style aims at directing
people by leader. All the
power of decision making lies
in the hand of the leader.
This styles aims at involving
the subordinates in decision
making process.
This style completely gives the
power to the subordinates to
make decision according to
them.
This style of leadership is
chosen when the size of team
is large and the opinions of
each and every person can't be
recorded.
This style of leader does not
have an impact due to the size
of the team. The smaller the
team the fast the conclusion
and the bigger the team the
delays in conclusion for a
problem.
For this style team size is not a
major factor. Experience of a
person only is the major factor
because the reliability on the
experienced team have more
positive impact than that of
inexperienced team.
Leader maintain all the
followers the order and the
people are maintained by the
leader itself so there is less
chances of mistakes.
This styles helps the leader to
get multiple solutions to a
problem and this would help
the leader to choose best
among them.
It gives a chance to the
followers to be independent
and gives a free time to the
leader to work on other stuff.
This is least dangerous
because all the decisions are
taken by the leader itself.
This is more dangerous as the
opinions of the employees
might be wrong (Herring,
2016).
This is the most dangerous as
the leader is completely
reliable on the followers for
work which have maximum
chances of being wrong.
This suitable at the pace of
expert advice in UPS
company.
It is suitable in UPS where
involvement of the followers
opinion is required.
It is suitable where people are
highly experienced in UPS and
can work on their own.

2.4 Ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives
The employees can be motivated in different ways. They can be
Positive and negative. Positive motivation employees are motivated by
bonus, extra pay, and various other incentives for the work that a company
pays to motivate employees. Negative motivation can be by punishment,
reduction in pay of the employee, setting the targets etc. Both of these
motivation can be used by UPS as the situation is demands (Cenderello, 2015).
Right now as the company is facing loss than it can use non-monetary
motivation like promotion etc. and can use the negative motivation to
terminate the employees who are not appropriate.
TASK 3
3.1 Benefits of team-working
Unity in diversity. UPS company is facing loss and problems in its
working. In such a situation a company has to work towards coping up with
the loss. Coordination is required to initiate this which comes when the
company works together in unity (Mohelska, 2015). A team is the main source
which helps the company to achieve its objectives which are compulsory for
the organisation. So as in UPS company at this time teamwork is required
to cope up with the situation. There are various benefits of working in a
team which can help UPS company to come out of this situation and they
are: Promotes Creativity And Learning Combines The Strength Of Every Individual To Work Jointly Enhances Trust Problems Are Solved Easily Skills To Resolute The Conflicts Increases The Risk Taking Capacity When The People Work
Jointly
A company's progress depends on how strong its team is working.
Likewise UPS should build team for better work to cope up the loss.
Document Page
3.2 Importance of working in a team as a leader and member
A team consists of a leader and its followers the leader motivates the
members of a team to accomplish various tasks and achieve goals (Adamou,
2017). A company reaches to the best position because of the people working
in it and those people together compiles the team of that company. A leader
is important in team to guide and motivate the members to have
appropriate behaviour for achieving the goals and the member's role also
works parallelly by attentively following the leader. In difficult situations
like in UPS a leader is required to guide people to achieve the goals and
member are also supposed to follow the guidance. The company seriously
requires to follow this suit and work in coordination to achieve success over
the difficult situation and conflict.
3.3 The effectiveness of the team in achieving the goals
A single person can achieve desired results but a team can achieve
the desired results definitely. Single hand working on something and many
single hands jointly working for something makes a lot of difference. So as a
team makes a difference in achieving the goals. The goals are achieved with
more effectiveness because joint effort of each and every person is involved
in doing so (T.M., 2016). Lets take an example- a parcel company is delivering
goods and have appointed only one person for everything from pickup to
delivery this will take a lot of time and another company have appointed
different persons for packing, pick up and delivery this will lead to achieve
the goal jointly and effectively because the burden on a single person
decreases which leads to effective achievement of the goals.
TASK 4
4.1 Important factors involved in planning the monitoring and assessment of
work performance
UPS company can use various tools to monitor and assess the
performance and they are:

The Company Can Set Standards Of Performance: While planning
UPS company sets some standards for performance which can be
used to assess the performance of the employees by comparing actual
performance with standards. Setting Up Random Methods Of Assessing Performance: The
methods of assessing like regular feedbacks, 306 degree assessment,
score card etc. can be used to evaluate the performance by UPS
company (Hartley-Bangs, 2016).
Reviewing The Performance: The performance of the employee can
be reviewed regularly like in controlling and monitoring so as to make
the necessary rectification in the performance of the workers in UPS
company.
4.2 Plan and deliver the assessment of the development needs of individuals
A plan to asses the development needs of individuals:
Setting the standards for performance
Communicating the standards
Collecting the data of actual performance
Comparing the actual performance with standards
Taking corrective actions
Following the above plan step by step can help UPS to gain the
problems in the company and can have a data on which the company needs
to work for rectification.
4.3 Success of the assessment process to bring company back on track with
high standard of management and leadership performance
The success assessment process can bring a life back to the UPS
company. The company should assess where it is lacking, what is the
problem in the company, what are competitors doing and what new changes
Document Page
are to be adopted in the company (Sokolova, 2015). This could be done only
through assessment process as it will come out the problems where the
change is required accordingly company can modify the changes. UPS will
come back on track by this assessment as the errors will be rectified
wherever required. High management and leadership will simultaneously
work hand in hand to bring UPS company back on track.
CONCLUSION
It is concluded by this report that how important it is for a company to work as a team for
the achievement of the goals and objectives. Here UPS is facing loss in its operation and need to
have unity and integrity in the company so as to be back on track which is being stated in this
report. The success of various tools for coordination and achievement of goals is being assessed
in this report. UPS will make a good return if it works as a team.
