AI Summary
This report presents an analysis of a learning situation within a medical education institute, employing the Learning-Oriented Teaching (LOT) model to evaluate cognitive, affective, and meta-cognitive learning activities. The analysis reveals that while learners effectively utilize self-regulation in creating and applying individual learning approaches, there's a need for improvement in meta-cognitive activities. The role of the teacher as a facilitator is emphasized, highlighting the importance of guidance in helping students align learning activities with their goals. The report concludes with a future plan focusing on enhancing meta-cognitive development by encouraging students to take greater responsibility for their training through practical experience and self-directed learning, with reduced reliance on teacher guidance over time. This includes dividing time between patient care and self-learning, and modifying classroom courses based on independent learning progress.

Analyzing learning situation
Introduction
Learning situation involves all the essential elements needed for the teaching and learning
process in an appropriate learning environment. I am doctor who teach both graduate and post
graduate students in my institute. This study has revolved my analysis of the learning situation
where I teach my students as a teacher. Thus, my position in the learning situation has been that
of a teacher. In other words, this study has illuminated a description of the learning situation in
my institute and a brief analysis of that learning situation based on certain aspects of learning.
For this reason, the learning oriented teaching model or LOT model has been utilized here.
Finally, a plan for improvement of the learning situation has been elaborated in this study.
Description
In my institution, the learners are getting trained for becoming efficient doctors in future.
They come from diverse cultural backgrounds. On the other hand, each and every learner has
different learning needs and demands. This is so because their cognitive, affective and Meta
cognitive abilities are not same although they aim at achieving similar learning goals. The
overall learning goal of the learners is to utilize as much learning activities as possible using self
regulating techniques. In this case, the role of the teacher is that of a facilitator and thus my role
in this learning situation is to facilitate their approach about building new and relevant learning
activities. For that reason, teaching and learning materials are there in my institution such as
extra reading materials, library, projectors and more. One of the main objectives of this learning
situation is to align the individual learning goals with the overall learning goal of the teaching
and learning sessions.
Analysis
Justification
There are three most important domains of learning that include cognitive, Meta
cognitive and affective domains of learning. The learning activities relating to each domain help
learners in blending themselves with the curriculum easily without accepting passive knowledge.

Analyzing learning situation
These are the parts of active learning that helps both the teachers and the learners to succeed in
the learning process (Biggs, 2012). Therefore, there is an essential need for the teachers to
support and guide the learners so that they can properly use the learning activities in order to
improve their learning capabilities. In this case, it is important for me to guide my learners
because only then they can understand the relevance of the learning activities in achieving their
own learning goals and in achieving the goals of the teaching sessions.
Importance of support
The achievement of any teaching learning program depends on the quantity and quality
of learning. The importance of teacher’s support in facilitating the learning activities lies in the
fact that teachers can guide the students for a shorter period of time. Thus it is important for the
learners to start taking responsibilities of their own learning. For this reason, passive learning is
not supported in the above mentioned learning situation where learners participate in active
learning process by creating own approaches to develop their cognitive, affective and Meta
cognitive learning abilities (Edwards, 2013). Moreover, shared guidance is needed for a better
understanding of the curriculum contents that can only be facilitated through the support from
the teacher in developing three components of learning.
Cognitive activities
The activities chosen for developing cognitive domain of the learners include
determining objectives of the learning session. In addition, activities like lecturing for concept
building is one of the teacher’s activities followed in my institution (Ten Cate, Snell, Mann &
Vermunt, 2004). On the other hand, the activity of self assessment on the part of the learners
helps the students in realizing their position in the whole learning program so that they can start
planning to improve their learning skills.
Affective activities
Activities chosen for this component in my students include giving individual
assignments to students based on individual learning capabilities, setting tasks for developing
their interests in the learning program. On the other hand, the learners are encouraged to be
familiar with real life patients so that they can feel self motivated to study more.

Meta cognitive activities
There are very less activities chosen for this particular component due to lack of time.
The development of this component depends mainly on self planned approaches without taking
any help from the teachers. For that reason, the students are given extra helpful reading materials
so that they can enhance their knowledge with the help of utilizing the library facility in my
institution.
Conclusion
In order to conclude, this can be said that this study has analyzed the existing learning
activities in the described learning situation in my institution. It has found out that the learners
effectively use self regulating process in creating and applying individual learning approaches to
participate in learning activities. On the other hand, some areas of improvement have also been
identified in this study that can be developed using a better learning plan. Moreover, the
guidance from the part of the teacher has been described to be essential in the above mentioned
learning situation in order to facilitate their learning further.
Future planning
After analyzing the learning activities in my institution, it can be said that the Meta
cognitive activities lacked an advanced plan for developing Meta cognitive component of
learning. One important element of this learning program is that here the learners are not only
getting knowledge but they are also are getting trained for becoming doctors in future. Thus, it is
essential that the new plan has more scope for the students to take responsibility of their training
and learning. Consequently, in this new plan, the learners will be motivated by the teachers to
develop skills by starting to practice professional attitude towards the objectives of the study
(Ten Cate, Snell, Mann & Vermunt, 2004). For that reason, their time will be divided between
patient care and self learning through assisting doctors in treating them. Classroom courses will
be modified according to how they proceed in their independent learning. There will be less or
no guidance from the teachers after a certain time and learners will be encouraged to follow
individual strategies to learn.
