Introduction
Management is important in running all kinds of management activities in an
organization. Every department in an organization requires effective management skills.
Management assists the organization to maintain its business environment wherein the
employees of the organization can work together to achieve set goals effectively and efficiently.
This report will reflect on how my studies relate to my own experience and how I will apply the
knowledge I have gained in my course in the future.
Why I chose this course
Business refers to the exchange of goods and services for money. Besides, businesses can
also be defined as activities that an organization engages in to realize profits. Since I was a
teenager, I have always had an interest in pursuing an IT course. Therefore, I chose this course
because it has better career opportunities. Most graduates in business information systems have
greater opportunities in the job market. Unlike other courses, people pursuing this course can
create job opportunities for themselves. Another reason why I chose this course is that it may
assist me to start my own business. Throughout the course, I will acquire management
knowledge that will assist me in managing my own business. Through studying this course, I
will acquire knowledge that varies from product knowledge to how to deal with employees and
clients. Many businesses lack a well-structured information system skills face a hard time
dealing with employees and clients which may lead to business failure.
I choose this course because it is helpful when it comes to change integration. In an
organization, there are always drastic changes. The changes vary from small to complicated and

knowing how to disseminate information across departments may assist the organization to
develop strategies to create new changes with a little amount of productivity interruption.
Experience as a BIS student
During summer, I was employed as customer care in a hotel. My responsibilities included
answering calls and responding to customers' inquiries in a professional manner. Besides, I had
to transfer other calls to respective parties if the inquiries are out of the area of work. I was also
responsible for using office communication systems to carry out telecommunication duties such
as intercom, switchboards, and public address. It was not difficult as I thought since I was
computer literate and the training I received assisted me to perform the tasks with ease.
How my experience prepared me for this course
My experience as a hotel customer care assisted me to understand more bout the
informational technology system and how it can be used to coordinate and disseminate
information. This is because I could transfer information from one department to another. My
experience assisted me to understand that information systems play a crucial part in a business
such as storage of information, which includes communication records, operational data, and
revision histories. Having this prior knowledge has assisted me to understand what my course
entails and what I will be dealing with in my career.
How to ensure my required outcomes are met
To achieve my course objectives, I will ensure that I fully attend all my classes. This will
assist me to stay on track. Another factor that will assist me in achieving my course objectives is
teamwork. Working as a team is important since it assists a person to easily comprehend points

and share ideas concerning complex activities that would have been difficult if done by one
person. Another way to ensure my objectives are met is by improving my oral communication.
This will assist me to communicate well with clients and respond to their inquiries if presented
with opportunities in the telecommunication industry.
What to do to manage and monitor my studies to a successful conclusion
The first thing is self-discipline. Self-discipline is important in all aspects of life. Being
disciplined will assist me to avoid being involved with the wrong group of people due to peer
pressure hence concentrating on my studies. The second way is ensuring that I handle
assignments and submit on time. More so, I am planning to get an internship in the IT
department which I believe will give me real-life experience in my area of study. Last, I will try
to gather more information on the course since business information technology is a broad
course.
How I will apply my studies in later life
Having learned about information systems, I may apply the knowledge gained to develop
a business analytics software that can be used by organizations to gather and analyze data that
may be useful in making sound business decisions. Additionally, I may apply the knowledge I
have gained to promote cultural change and innovation which is essential to evolve the
organization hence meeting consumer and organization changing needs. I believe there is much
to learn through my course and by the time I complete my studies, I would have gained adequate
knowledge on how to effectively manage businesses by utilizing technology.
Short term and long term goals that I would like to set for myself

In the past, I did not have good communication skills which affected my presentations in
class. Besides, I was not audible enough and I could not engage my audience. Therefore, my first
short term goal is to work on my interpersonal and oral communication skills. Besides, I did have
enough knowledge of the business environment subject. My short term goal is to conduct in-
depth research to learn more about the business environment and how it affects management in
an organization. On the other hand, my long term is enhancing my problem solving and
analytical thinking skills which are essential for a business information student. This will assist
me to evaluate, analyze and interpret information and make sound business decisions in an
organization
Conclusion
A business information system course is widely undertaken since it has many career
opportunities. A person who has done this course suits to work almost in all the departments.
However, course work knowledge only is not enough to handle organization activities.
Therefore, the experience is a necessity since it will assist a person to apply the knowledge
gained in handling tasks. As a business information student, setting both short term and long
term goals is important in building a career due to the ever-changing technology. Setting goals
will assist to remain competitive in the market.
