3. INTRODUCTION
a.) Research background
Employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and creativity which is brought
by the workers of the firm. It is important for the management of to motivate its employees at all
level as it helps in improving the performance of the company. Motivated workers mean a highly
productive staff all of them help in accomplishing the goals and objectives (Cerasoli, Nicklin
and Ford, 2014). Workers incentive program which is one of the easy ways to incentivize the
employees within the firm. Their present research is based on “To explore the importance of
employee motivation on the performance of Uber drivers in London.” Uber driver works
regularly and they serve their customer in an appropriate manner. It is important for Uber
company to motivate its employees on regular basis with respect to improve their performance. It
has been noticed that motivates employees to give their best effort as compared to demotivated
workers. There are various reasons for motivating the employees (Lazaroiu, 2015). One of the
main reason is to accomplish the set goals and objectives. If employees are not motivated then it
leads to placing risky position for the company. Uber can change its way of motivating the
employees with respect to improve the performance and work effectively (Pinder, 2014).
b.) Research problem
Employee motivation becomes one of the biggest factors for the Uber company with
respect to improving performance and productivity (Shields, Brown and Plimmer, 2015). There
are different ways of motivating the employees and it is important for the Uber company to
understand through which way they can encourage employees to work hard. The present research
will help in analyzing the role of employees motivation and its positive impact on the
performance of the company. This study helps in identifying the current problem faced by Uber
in respect to motivating its employees (Gillet, Gagné and Fouquereau, 2013). It is essential for
the Uber company to understand different factors due to which employees get demotivated and
they do not work hard for the company
c.) Research purpose
The purpose of the research is to understand the importance of employee motivation on
the performance of Uber drivers in London. Employees motivation becomes one of the important
aspects of the company in order to improve its performance and enhance the productivity (Noe,
Wilk and Wanek, 2014). This study will help in developing a deep understanding related to the

6. Literature review
According to the view of Mowday, Porter, and Steers, (2013), motivation play the
significant role within the company in terms of improving the performance and increasing the
productivity. To motivate the employees is important for every organisation as lead to directly
impact the company. Uber drivers are provided less importance due to which they get
demotivated with their work and it leads to impact the organisation performance. Malik, Butt,
and Choi, (2015) explained that employees within the working at the different position are
equally important as they are working for the company. Therefore, it is important to encourage
without making any type of discrimination. If drivers are provided less importance then it
demotivated them with their work and it leads to impact the organisation performance (Malik,
Butt and Choi, 2015). Therefore, it is important for the company to motivate according to their
needs to improve their performance. Olafsen, Halvari, and Deci, (2015) argued that good
incentive systems leave the control in the hand of the employees.

various motivators. For example, positive motivators are the bonus, increment, promotion etc
while negative motivator is such as issues of the memo, demotion, warning etc. Many time fear
of negative motivators helps in induce the person to behave in an appropriate manner. Yidong
and Xinxin, (2013) critique that motivation is the complex process and not the easy task. It is
important for the company to understand the needs of employees and motivate them accordingly.
However, providing incentive is one of the best methods of motivating the employees.
7. Proposed research methodology
Research approach: There are two important types of research approach that are inductive
and deductive. It is essential to apply in the research by the scholar with respect to carry out
the investigation in an appropriate manner (Tai and Chuang, 2014). The selection of the
approach is done on the basis of nature of the research. This research explores the importance
of employee motivation on the performance of Uber drivers in London. Hence, the inductive
approach will be used as it help in identifying the motivational factors to improve the
performance of employees. The reason behind selecting this approach is that in this research
will focus on first collecting the general information then move toward the specific one
(Meyer, Ding and Zhang, 2014).
Research design: Research design assist investigator to present the findings in a
systematic manner. There are various kinds of research design such as descriptive,
exploratory, explanatory etc (Ming, Ximei and Lilin, 2014). In the present research,
descriptive research design will be used. The rationale behind choosing this design is that it
helps in describing the characteristic of the population which are covered in this study
(Altbach, 2015.). Data collection: There are two important methods of collecting the
information that is primary and secondary (Moon and Blackman, 2014). This both methods
are important as they help investigator in collecting information related to the selected topic
that is “To explore importance of motivation on the performance

nature of research both primary and secondary method will be used. Here quantitative
method will be used in which primary information will be collected from the survey in
which questions will be asked from employees of Uber. On the other side, secondary
information will be collected from the different source that are books, journals, internet
etc (Chowdhury, 2014). These both methods of collection will help in providing depth
information related to the topic.
Sample: Sampling is required to be done in order to select the sample size from the
entire population (Employees). (Keutel, Michalik and Richter, 2014.). There are two
different types of sampling that is probabilistic and non probabilistic. In the present
research, non probabilistic sample size will be used under which random sampling
method will be used to ask the questions from employees. The reason behind selecting
this sample size is that it employees know better the way motivational tool help them in
performing effectively or not (Tebbit, 2017). Here 20 employees of Uber will be
selected.
Data analysis: It is essential for the researcher to analysis the data after collecting in
order to get the valid outcome. There are two techniques for analysing the data that are
qualitative and quantitative (Meyer, Ding, and Zhang, 2014). In the present research
quantitative techniques will be used under which different themes will be prepared on the
basis of collected information. It helps in presenting the finding in a systematic manner.
Ethical consideration: It is important to consider ethics while carrying out the research.
It is important to keep all the information of respondents safe and confidential (Research
ethics, 2017). Further, no respondents will be forced to take participate in the research.
Apart from this all the secondary information is cited properly with respect to carrying
out research in an effective manner.
8. Significance of the research
The importance of the present research is that it will help researcher in developing the
deep understanding related to role of motivations. Further, employees play significant role as it is
important for the company to understand their needs and fulfil them so that they work effectively
for the firm. This research help in understanding different types of motivational and way it can
be used by the manager for encouraging employees to work hard.

9. Research limitation
To complete the entire research, scholar put all its efforts to carry out in an systematic
manner. Due to the less time and monetary resources' researcher has not carried out highly
detailed investigation. However due to less time researcher has selected sample size 20 that is
nor low neither high. Further highly advanced tools and techniques were not used by the scholar
because of limitation of monetary resources.
