Every nurse has the prior duty to in the healthcare team to carry on ongoing assessments
of the health status of the patient and thereby ensure that the patient is properly responding to
their plan of care. Ensuring safety of the patient and providing service that ensures patient
satisfaction should be the aims of every nursing professional. However, the quality of care can
only be improved if the nurses follow every ethical and legal guideline of the healthcare sectors
and provide care interventions to patients that are evidence based (Smolowitz 2015). Over the
years, different new interventions had been proposed in healthcare sectors by the researchers.
These ensure the best quality of care to the patient. Most modern technologies have been
developed that provide the best health outcome. Therefore, nurses need to practice evidence-
based practices by which they would be able to use the recent inventions and discoveries in the
healthcare field that would ensure the best care to the patients. This is one of the ways, by which
nursing professionals can participate in quality improvement.
Two important aspects that should be followed by nursing professionals to develop
quality is ensuring person centered care and providing care that is equitable. By providing person
centered care, nurses need to establish partnership and collaborative care between the healthcare
professionals and the patients. This would ensure that the needs and preferences of the patient is
cared for by the professionals. This makes the patient satisfied for which they have positive
health outcomes. By equitable care, it means that nurses play the role of ensuring quality of care
to the patient that would not vary from one patient to another patient (Masters 2015). Nurses
have the responsibility to provide culturally competent care by which equal care and attention
would be given to patient irrespective of their caste, creed and religion depending upon their
preferences and inhibitions. These would develop the quality of care provided to service users.

Experienced nurses should also conduct analysis of the healthcare needs and demands,
develop an understanding of the capacity and flow of the services in the healthcare organizations
and therefore report to the higher authorities to bring about modifications in the organization.
They should use proper tools to bring about the changes required in the organization for proper
flow of work that ensures best healthcare experiences by the service users (LoBiondo-Wood and
Haber 2017). Proper leadership skills and clinical engagement skills also ensure that the
healthcare professionals provide high quality care. Recent researchers are of the opinion that
patient empowerment, support and advocacy play huge role in ensuring quality care and
therefore nurses who provide importance on these aspects can contribute to quality improvement
in the organizations (Hood 2013).
Recent day researchers are urging the nursing professionals to develop a holistic
approach in their practices that ensures providing patients with physical, mental, emotional,
continuous, and therapeutic and person centered care to service users. Nurses have the role to
ensure service to patients that are based on humanity and compassion thereby maintaining
efficiency and effectiveness of high quality care. Professional, seamless care through effective
teamwork provides safest care to patients. Nurses should also advocate for the modifications
required in the healthcare environment to the higher officials regarding resources, workforce,
funds and risks associated with care practices so that high quality care is provide to patient
ensuring satisfaction and accidents can be prevented. All thee would help in improvement of
quality of care in healthcare organizations.
