Common challenges and barriers to
communication
During the pandemic of COVID-19, students are
taking lectures through the online mode of learning
and due to this they are facing lot of barriers in their
educational life. The first issue is technical barrier
and this creates ineffective communication in
lectures that also disturb with many reason like some
students disturb the class, internet problem that
student miss some part in between the paragraph.
The teachers have old laptop or slow internet
connection there is a problem to load the
presentation of the chapters, sound and video
problem (Naylor and et. al., 2018). The second issue
is emotional barrier the students get bored in online
classes as they cannot interact virtually with other
students and cannot gain experience of collage life
because of the online classes and video lectures.
They cannot physically involve in activities held in
college. The third issue is physical barrier as they
look the screen continuously for long period of time
and this give harmful effects to health like headache,
eye pain. The third barrier in online lecture is noise
barrier in zoom lecture the sound of students
interrupt whole classroom. The last is culture barrier
that some students went to Britain for education and
they do not know interact with other teacher or
students because of British culture.
Strategies for overcoming communication barrier
To conduct online lectures effectively the college, have
to give training to all teachers with facilities to
overcome the technical issue during the class. The
proper guidelines should be given to students about the
topic so that there is no disruption between the class and
should eliminate unnecessary topics related to the
syllabus. This will create an effective communication in
online lectures during the pandemic (Lai and et. al.,
2017). The students look continuously on the screen for
long period should give break for rest and can come
back with fresh mind to continue with their lecture.
There should be activities or group projects that students
can interact with their classmates this will reduce
difference among them and they can start communicate
their views and ideas (Rossi and et. al.,2016). This way
the international students get motivated and they are feel
to introduce them.
Awareness of cultural influences
Culture awareness is important for all college
students so they can understand about the culture
background and student can experience their
college life and they can reduce discrimination
between students and their culture. When they will
understand different culture students can take
decision which are unbiased or protect them to
take conclusion that is based on prejudice
(Howells and et. al., 2016). It will help students to
interact with other classmates of different culture
background and help the students to take decision
when communication with people. Culture
awareness helps to encourage and accept in
different background in the diverse world. They
will feel motivated and engage in class by
interaction among racial and ethical group the
outcome of learning from this will be positive.
