PERSONAL STATEMENT
The desire to make the world a better place for everyone has been one of the reasons why
I choose a career in international relations. My interest in the course has been compounded
further by the realization that a Mastered degree in international relations will offer me this
unique opportunity of changing the world by enabling me to participate in the prevention of
international conflicts and maintenance of positive diplomatic relations among nations.
My interest in international relations dates back to several years when I was in high
school. Although I never enrolled in a public relations course in my undergraduate, I knew that I
would still pursue it in the future. Besides, undertaking a course English language studies has
equipped me with a set of relevant skills and attributes which have compelled me to focus on this
initiative without further ado. After completing my major in English Language Studies at the
University of Sohar, I realized that I would be contented after enrolling for a master’s degree in
public relations. Under this program, I managed to study several subjects in the social sciences
field which have enlightened me and enabled me to develop a deeper understanding of different
global issues.
I am particularly attracted to the acquisition of an impeccable understanding of
contemporary global issues, developing the capacity to have a say in government policy and
being able to have a positive impact on the poor and vulnerable populations. I believe that a
master’s in public relations will provide me with a perfect opportunity to learn about various
global issues such as international security, women movements and economies of
underdevelopment which will prepare me to deal with injustices on a global spectrum. Also, with
a master’s degree in public relations, I will be well equipped to work in organizations focused on
social issues where I will be able to make a difference on policy issues such as immigration,

terrorism and climate change. Finally, I am perturbed by the rising inequalities and income
inequalities among social groups and regions in Oman and several other countries. These
inequalities are the main reasons why many countries are still struggling with HIV/AIDS, child
mortality, Poverty among other social issues. Enrolling for this course will, therefore, prepare me
for some roles which will help me in addressing some of these pertinent issues.
I am much aware that to complete the program successfully, I will have to read
extensively about global issues, undertake multiple assessments and demonstrate beyond a
reasonable doubt that I am capable of successfully handling challenging tasks. For this reason, I
will also take part in other activities and events such as debate, volunteer services to maintain the
right mental state.
I am deeply aware of the reputation of your institution and the marketability of the
courses offered by you especially at the master’s level. My research on the internet and
interactions with other scholars and alumni from your institution has improved my confidence in
deepened my desire to enroll for the program in the coming intake. I am optimistic that you will
grant me an opportunity to study at the best university in Oman so that my desire to make a
difference in the world will be achieved.
