What is Plagiarism?
 In respect of Birmingham University plagiarism is the act of
cheating and writing the academic article in the name of
someone else.
 This is very serious offense which a student does by writing
someone else work and writing it or paraphrasing it either by
not mentioning name of actual writer or by not referencing it
properly.
 There are various sources through which t hey could copy
the material like from web, from lecture notes, books or
journals or from another students assignment as well.
 According to University of Birmingham this is very serious
offense which is also dealt is very strict form by
management of university.

Different types of
plagiarism?
There are basically two types of
plagiarism which many be either
intentional or unintentional on the hand
of students who are copying someone
else work and making it their own.

Intentional plagiarism
 Is when the writer who is making or copying the
material is having full and complete knowledge
about the work that they are copying.
 They are doing it with intention by copying and
pasting that work and knowing that it is not their
idea.
 This becomes a very serious academic offense as
the present writer is intentionally copying or
paraphrasing someone else writes.

 Either paraphrasing or copying the article that
are already written on website or any
electronic database in this they will not be
quoting or citing the work and making it their
own.
 Individual themselves are passing their own
work so that others could paraphrase it or
copy paste that work.
 Not putting correct citations and not giving
reference either online or from books and
journals.

Unintentional plagiarism
 Is when writers are taking someone else words and
paraphrasing them but in case they are not knowing how to
quote that work or how to give credit and in tern they fail to
do this.
 In this above act they are not having knowledge about how
to do the referencing and then citations but in this sense
students must get in touch with their teachers so that they
could explain them what is correct and how to do this.

 Either by changing some words and not the
whole composition of sentence or by changing
sentence and not changing some important words
within this is known as poor paraphrasing.
 Not doing the correct citation either by doing it
half or by omitting some parts of it.
