INTRODUCTION
The term professional career development refers to some skills and competencies which
are being developed at initial stage in order to have good professional career ahead. Interviewer
is one who is responsible for interrogating a candidate that has shown his interest in doing job
with that company (Albright, 2020). Interviewee is an applicant who had applied for job post.
The conversation between an interviewer and interviewee comprises of asking several questions
related to desired job basis on responses of which company or interviewer decides whether to
hire or not. There are certain skills which are mandatory in order to have good job position along
with analysis of strong and weak areas so that can be developed by taking timely steps. The
present report is based upon a job interview of a Beauty therapist for which interview is being
conducted. Further the report includes a self-reflection comprising analysis of strong and weak
areas along with a plan to develop skills through application of Kolb's model into the scenario.

Q1. Tell me about your greatest strengths?
Ans. I am proficient as a beauty treatment provider having high skills, can maintain a healthy and
positive attitude with my hard work. Along with this, I am very much passionate as well as
dedicated about beauty treatment. I am very much exited to start my career as a beauty therapist.
Q2. What are your future goals?
Ans. I love performing colouring and highlight techniques so I wish to become a master or
famous colourist within next 3 years in industry and then will see where it is going to take me.
Q3. How many customers you are able to handle each day?
Ans. On an average I can handle 8-10 customers per day rest depends upon the time of treatment
which they wishes to have.
Q4. Describe the most challenging situation which you handled in your past?
Ans. For me the most challenging situation was to handle all the saloon customers at the time of
festival or weeding season due to non-availability of enough staff on particular day.
Q5. Do you feel asking any question from us?
Ans. From when, I can serve the saloon with my skills and hard work so that i can take saloon to
its heights by providing better services to customers.

Strengths:
Following are the skills present in me which are best suitable for the job of beauty therapist:
 Communication Skills: It is very necessary to have good communication skill in
order to provide best service with high convincing power to saloon’s customers. I am
proficient in influencing customers to buy saloon’s beauty products and visit saloon
on regular basis in order to have beauty treatment time to time.
 Discipline: In order to a beauty therapist it is very essential to maintain and behave
in well-disciplined manner so to greet customers with highest level of politeness
along with providing a feeling of respect. This also includes proper grooming of
therapist. I am highly disciplined as I have worked previously with high rated saloon
where disciple is placed at top and is highly concentrated.

There are certain more skills which are my strong areas such as effective presentation
skills, proper understanding of theoretical concepts and knowledge of beauty products, etc.
Areas of development (Weaknesses):
Following are the weaknesses upon which I am working in order to be a good beauty
therapist:
 Management of Crowd: There are situations where saloon hi highly crowded at peak
time such as festive or wedding season where attending each customers with high
satisfaction becomes very necessary. Sometimes I am not able to huge number of
customers at a time during peak load of saloon.
 Familiar with latest product: Market is very frequent in launching newest product
within very less time and the customers are demanding latest product in order to look
more beautiful. I sometimes feel myself less competent in getting knowledge or
application of those new products but I am continuously working upon this.
Reflection (Recruitment and Selection):
Based upon above discussion between interviewer and interview it is analysed that
recruitment and selection is very necessary and for the same it is essential to have proper
interview so to have proper analysis of applicant’s skills and understanding. During my interview
process I was very scared because the saloon was very well known in market and always selects
highly skills employee’s greatest level of knowledge in them. When I went for interview I found
the management team being very polite and humble with me, they commenced with my
interview after making me comfortable so that I can present best of my knowledge and skills in
front of them. They asked me several questions starting form describing myself first and then my
academic qualifications with certain extra added courses if I could have that can add credit to my
candidature. I have responded each question in well presentable manner with full of confidence
in every answer. They enquired me about my strengths and weak areas so can allot me task based
upon me potential areas, my past experience, the most complicated situation with which I met
and faced. I responded that my most critical situation was when I am alone required to handle
whole crowd from my previous saloon at the time of festival where customers visits with huge
number. During my interview i found the interviewing team and human resource team being
highly supportive and cooperative with their new employees or candidates who would be the
member of their saloon very soon. The internal environment as well as culture of saloon was

very healthy and positive, each existing employees of saloon maintains good relation with each
other and supports whenever needed. I was successfully able to influence and convince my
interviewers at the time of interview which allowed them to think for my selection. After my
interview I was little bit scared due to natural feeling of result but I was enough confident that I
will be selected and join saloon soon. After few minutes of my interview I was again called by
interview team and after a long discussion they offered me a job which is my dream and I wanted
to be a part of such saloon. I was asked to join saloon just after 3 days of my interview and
contribute them in achieving success with my potential skills and handsome knowledge. I was
very happy and enthusiastic to see my job offer letter in my hands which is somewhat like dream
come true. I accepted their offer and said yes to join saloon after 3 days. I was provided with
saloon dress and outfits that I am required to carry daily while performing my job. I shared this
news with my family and friends who were very happy for me. It was a successful interview and
I forgot all the fear which I was suffering before my interview. I was very excited to join my new
job and showcase my highest level of skills to my passion.

Kolb’s theory of reflective cycle:
The model of Kolb’s reflective cycle is also known as theory of experiential learning. The model
is entirely based upon an experience and review of own skills and potential which are being
analysed in proper sequential manner by following a four stage reflective cycle (Crane and et. al.,
2020).
Each stage of kolb’s theory of reflective cycle is described below:
 Concrete Experience: This situation involves a concise and physical experience that
makes a realisation for systematic reflection so to have something effective improvement
towards practice or skills that are already present in a candidate (Duchatelet and et. al

2021). At this level of model one is able to enlist particular situation which describes a
reflection of one which he or she wants to see in them. It gives answer to various
questions such as what one sees, feels and thinks.
 Reflective observation: This is the second stage in reflection cycle where a description is
mentioned in written form about an experience. This stage involves a time for reflection
with high level of deeper analysis upon a specific situation that has happened in past
(Hinton and et. al., 2020). This offers answer to several different questions such as what
things have performed well along with what all does not provided effective and targeted
results. This also answers to a reason of a situation that has risen during the course of
action. It further includes the behaviour of other as well as self along with a way of its
performance.
 Abstract Conceptualisation: This is treated as third stage in Kolb’s model of reflection
which directs an individual to answer all questions that are being analysed at stage three
that is reflective observation in a form of analysing ways to perform things in different
manner or in better way (Lehane, 2020). This lists a scope of improvement so to have
more efficient performance in future career or job. The stage finds some unique ways in
order to deal things or situation with proper strategies especially at time when face same
situation next time or on repetition basis. The stage further involves a proper consultation
and discussion with peer members, colleagues, as well as literature so to cater strong
understanding of situation with better ideas for further happenings.
 Active Experimentation: This is the last stage of Kolb’s theory of reflective cycle from
where a development of new cycle takes place with new experiment. This involves a real
practice of latest collected or new knowledge at theoretical level into practical context
(Liu and Wang, 2020). Here an individual takes reflection of his own potential and skills
along with a thought of further enhancement as well as certain theories that backs into a
practice with an implementation of newest strategies. Here some strategies gets work
whereas some gets failed which gives a birth to new reflection cycle. This covers a stage
of concrete experiment that becomes a latest active experience.
By implementing a theory of Kolb’ reflective cycle an individual will be able to analyse and
evaluate his skills and potential comprising key areas as well as development areas that are
helpful for performing task effectively. Through this model one can have better reflection for his

experiences and situations that have taken place in past. This provides a fair and real picture of
one’s knowledge and skills along with its application to have better results from performance.
CONCLUSION
From the present report it is concluded that interview plays a very important role in
recruiting and selecting an employee or hiring any candidate for a job. Analysing owns strengths
and areas of development help one to analyse potential and weaknesses so to have effective
performance and timely enhancement of present skills and knowledge. A self-reflection is very
helpful to evaluate ones performance. A candidate can develop a personal development plan
which gives a true and fair picture of potential skills and knowledge in order to have a real
picture of it. There is a model that can be applied such as Kolb’s theory in order to have deeper
analysis of reflection as well as a proper direction towards achievement of goal.
