Topic: The impact of part time employment on the academic performance of students
1. Background
Education is being defined as a process through which an individual gathers knowledge
of the different beliefs, values, skills and transfer of habits which contributes to the development
of the cognitive and motor skills (Barber and Santuzzi 2017). However, Triventi (2014) opined
that the indulgence of students in part time employments might affect their academic grades. On
the other hand, Deasy et al. (2014) argued that the part time employment provides the students
with practical knowledge through which they might develop skills of professionalism. The
different researches that were undertaken in the past identified different perspectives of the
authors in a contradictory manner (Iosua et al. 2014). Therefore, the current research will take
steps to identify the impact that is being created by the part time jobs on the academic
performance of the students. The different changes in the ideologies and the contradictions
would be addressed through the review of different activities through which the position of the
students might be identified.

The research will aim at identifying the impact of part time employment on the academic
performance of students.

The objectives of the research would be:

The research questions will be:
 What are the needs of the students for getting part time employment?

 What are the recommended actions for enhancing the academic performance while
pursuing with part-time employment?
5. Rationale for the research
The rationale for undertaking the research is to identify the different factors that
influences the academic performance of the students while operating in the part time jobs. The
research will examine the different factors that might affect the rate of academic performance
and thereby support the future researchers in identifying the different recommended activities for
enhancing the academic performance of the same.
6. Research problem
The research will aim at identifying the major problems relating to the academic
performance while continuing with their employment as part time employees. It has been found
that students are exposed to a heightened amount of stress and the workload while continuing

their part time jobs and academic careers simultaneously. On the other hand, it is also noticed
that part time jobs that are aligned to the subject area of the students would support the same in
gaining practical knowledge for enhancing their future scopes of employment. Therefore, the
research would aim at identifying the major issues that are faced by the students in balancing the
part time jobs with their academic careers.
7. Research plan
7.1 Research philosophy
The research will be conducted through the utilization of the positivism philosophy which
would support in examining the sensory information relating to logical transcriptions with the
objective of ensuring the quality of the study (Üstün and Eryilmaz 2014).
7.2 Research design
The research will be initiated through the utilization of the exploratory design which
would support in identifying the cause and effect relation between the part tome jobs and the
academic performance of the students (McCusker and Gunaydin 2015). Therefore, the
utilization of the exploratory research design would support in developing cognition on the
different factors that influence the academic performance due to student’s indulgence in part
time jobs.
7.3 Data collection method
The data will be collected through the conduction of primary surveys among the students
who are employed in different part time jobs. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions would
be created and circulated among a sample size of 150 students with the objective of recording
their responses. The data collected from the responses of the students would be analyzed and

linked with the literature review for identifying the major idea of the manner in which the
academic performance of the same is affected through the part time jobs (Choy 2014).
